In comparison to mhead b I had meniscus repair surgery in November 2023, still hobbling now and definitely can’t run. All about how serious the issue is, which of course none of us plebs will be party to.
Just spoke to a chap at work who had a meniscus injury, and who partakes in regular high intensity physical activity as part of his job. Had the op, walking within a couple of days, but not able to do proper high intensity training, especially the manoeuvrability required for football, for eight months. He is older though, which I am told is significant as when you age the 'meniscus' thins and takes longer to heal. So in a younger man, please make it so, the healing time is quicker.

Many years ago I hurt my knee playing in a Sunday league game. There was an orthopaedic surgeon who held a surgery at the local hospital on Monday evenings, and he managed to fit me in for a consultation. Told me I'd torn my meniscus and would need an operation - the NHS waiting list then was 6 months(?). When I told him I had private insurance from my work, he asked: "What are you doing Thursday?" "Whatever you say, Doc" I replied.

Anyhow, I had the op on the Thursday, walked (gingerly) out of hospital next day and with the help of some physio, played again 5 weeks after that.

Now before anyone jumps in, my stumbling old Sunday morning efforts were nowhere near what is required to play in the PL (gross understatement!). But as against that, neither was I nearly so fit as Thiago will have been when incurring the injury (grosser understatement!). Nor will the rehab and training I received have been anything like that which BFC will be offering. Plus my operation was nearly 40 years ago i.e. in the early days of keyhole surgery in this country.

All of which suggests that if Thiago has suffered only a minor tear, he could be back soon enough. But if it's more serious, as others have experienced, it could be a good bit longer.

Here's hoping! :sorted:

So he could be back soon or he might not be. Who'd have thought? I expect like you, Thiago / BFC will have private health insurance. So that's a positive. I think. No waiting in A & E on a trolley I'd guess.

Budleigh and Old B both gave accounts of meniscus injuries which were very troublesome. I related one which wasn't. That's it, really.

Igor Thiago

I would too.
But I don't.
To be honest neither do I but it’d be a fun bit of dark arts. Though I still hope for the run of wins to start the season with an under strength initial line up. It’ll set us up to kick on when everyone’s back!

It’s none of our business until they decide it is.
Too right! If it’s good news, it probably hurts any Toney negotiations going on. If it’s bad news, it probably hurts any negotiations we’ve got going on for other players.

Either way, keeping everyone in the dark at this point is probably the best way forward. Better we know something others don’t, than everyone know our business.

I have no doubt any communication on the matter will have been well thought through on all manner of implications it’ll have.

I played for 25 years and never had a knee injury. In fact, I never had a significant injury at all. Just off to post on the Dull Men's Club on Facebook.

?

Exactly. Every injury is different. In a different body.
I once fell over and grazed both my hand and my knee. Whilst both injuries were different, they were both in the same body so you're only half right. This was over fifty years ago and I haven't played a top flight professional football match since so I do fear for New IT.

Headhunted by Wikipedia commercial department and had to sever links to all social media

As normal I might be wrong or overthinking but given the uncertainty on the Ivan Toney situation I cannot see why the club will make any announcement regarding Thiago and the likely length of his absence.

A ball carrying, stylish centre back. Tall, good looking and powerful in the air.

That's my line of thinking as well, but praying I'm wrong

You say we don't know so why not wait until the Club releases a statement, then we'll all know for certain. Pointless speculating / speculation.

Not as bad as I feared to be honest. Potentially nasty injury and glad we've spotted it and acted upon it.
