Made two great runs for Dango's goal at Villa. First staying onside to try to get the first cross then dropped into acres of space so if Dango hadn't shot he'd be available in acres of space for a tap in. Up against athletic centre backs in the Prem but very intelligent in the right place right time department.

listening to Talkcrap this morning , they were discussing best strikers in the EPL , Gobby Imawhore had him as 5 th 🤣

I wonder whether it’s simply because when it comes to a tussle and it could go either way, referees are more inclined to back the defender because the likelihood is they won’t score directly from the free kick. Whereas if they give it for the striker, a ball into the box and it’s in, you’re going to have the opposition barking at you.

Both Kane and Ivan won a lot of free kicks because they learnt that they’re unlikely to win one by actually trying to compete, so you’re almost encouraged to go down as a striker, because defenders can in the knowledge 99% of time they’ll get the decision

I think Thiago needs to learn not to raise his arms so high with a defender up his a***. Waving his arm in the direction of a defender’s head is probably enough for a referee to make a decision against him.

17 goals in 25 games. What i'm about to say is probably ridiculous and unreasonable, but it's what the forums for.

I wish he'd challenge for the ball a little more in the air. I've never played CF so dont have a clue what i'm talking about but at times it looks like he's looking at his opponent more than the ball when Kelleher goes long. Looking at stats, he's won 36% of his arial duels this season but that I guess is the ones he's attempted (even that sounds slightly low for his size).

In my defence, he's almost brilliant in all areas, but maybe just an area that could be improved being hyper critical.

Geordie based and supporting nephew said all the talk after the game was how Brentford always find a forward and how Newcastle bought the wrong one last summer. They don’t care for Wissa or Woltemade up there and seemingly think Igor is a big cut above both. Can’t disagree on this season.

Indeed. You do well to spend a worse £200m than Woltemade, Wissa, Elanga and Ramsay. They can be thankful PSR has saved them from spending anymore with that list !

I loved how he would receive the ball, hold and wait for the runners then asses his options.

Late on, but one move typified this, where he collected the ball, held off Tonali and laid off to Donovan on the line

It seems some refs aren’t ever going to give him a decision, even with defender all over him, but he’ll come up with a way to deal with that

I think hes actually learning to "bump" the player to get his body there to win the ball. Winning the ball in the air with his head is tough in this league and the link up play isnt as easy as it is with his body etc.

His strength IMO is ball into his chest and feet.

He did really well.

His strength is very obviously to his feet as you say. Personally I do not think that as a team we get the ball to his feet often enough to take advantage of this ability. This is constructive criticism looking to see improvement in what is already very good.

I saw him take one for Club Brugge. A weak effort at a nice height for the keeper and with the direction telegraphed. Easily saved. What a difference our coaching team have made in this area (amongst many others)!

Exactly what happened for the 3rd goal today,most will see that as being beaten in the air but watch how he bumps the defender so there’s no power in the defensive header as long as we have midfielders high up the pitch to get the second ball that’s a perfect action.
He can win flick ons too but what’s the point if there’s no one up with him to flick it on to?
In conclusion I love this fella and he can do no wrong 😂

I believe he has missed one this season. Could have been more if keepers had stood or guested right. Yesterday’s was excellent under pressure.

Igor just getting better and better. It is scary to this lad can achieve.

I still feel very nervous in each of his penalty runs ups! His record is very good so no complaints, but in his pens earlier in the season at least, it felt like he was getting lucky with the keeper going the wrong way, not much power and right in that easily savable zone if the keeper went that way. I guess he had more control of the situation than it looked, but was hard to see that in the replays

He makes the run-up ‘stutter’ as the ‘keeper transfers his weight having committed to direction, so Thiago is getting better at focusing on that, allowing placement over power. It was also noticeable that Henderson and Jensen were following up faster than any Newcastle player in the event of a save. I’d assume this is all part of a training routine.

I can see his frustration building, much like with Schade, too, at the decisions that go against us every game. I do not remember football being like this. Refs always made mistakes, they're human and they do their best, but there really does seem like a "big club" or rather TV money/sportswashing bias now...compounded by VAR.

He would win so many fouls playing for one of the "darlings", he would be able to score 30 goals a season easily if he wasn't penalised for being fouled consistently.

BUT, his tactical awareness is superb. Love seeing his awareness.

It just boggles my mind, that you can judge all that in an instant, while running up to the ball and needing to strike it accurately in one of two directions you have yet to determine. Toney run up was slower I think, giving him more time to read? Pope did a false movement the other way to try to trick him, but it seems Igor saw through that (or he didn't, and just struck it quite hard and accurately anyway)

I think it’s just focus, probably still a guess/intuition, informed by the analyst, but a decent percentage. The whole ‘ceremony’ around a penalty award, knowing that there’s certain to be a VAR review, does seem well rehearsed to me – Thiago walks away, no-one speaks to him so he can just compose himself and focus while another scene is acted out around the penalty spot. Ref blows and points after review, Thiago saunters up, is handed the ball and the other players take up position. Pure theatre.

ISTR with the second penalty at Brighton that didn’t happen…
