Listening to Tim Vickery on TalkSport in the early part of the season, when the initial suggestions were coming out that IT could break into the Brazil squad he came across (to me at least) as if he wasnt just reporting the fact that Brazil had a policy of not picking players from "unfashionable" clubs, but that he also thought that was an 'understandable', standpoint, at least where Igor and Brentford were concerned.
As his great season continued, and the noise and likelihood around IT securing a place increased, Vickery's views have seemed to 'soften' on that policy.
At least that's how it came across to me.....🤷‍♂️
But maybe I'm just too "precious" about my club and its players!!! 😁
Ive listen to him a few times and agree , in Brazil ,it was, who the feck are Brentwood ? No player from Essex can play for the mightly Brazil . I think and hope that will change and he will bcome a house hold name in Brazil , and us too . . Ancelloti can not ignore the second highest goal scorer in the EPL . He may well of called him up to this next squad to have a look at him more closely and possibly appease those shouting Igors name . You have to assume the final decision is his , but there maybe pressure from outside of the building to who he choses

He also said that there were lots of articles in the Brazilian papers this morning along the lines of “Who the hell is this guy Igor Thiago” 😆Sounds like there’s bit that much interest in the Premier League out there.

As much as what Tim Vickery said about big club snobbery is accurate, the wider issue for Brazilian football fans is that they don't like their young players leaving the domestic league combined with the fact that they believe the Seleção should be a mix of current domestic players as well as players playing at European club who are recognisable as having played for a top Brazilian club in their Serie A at some point in their career. Thiago is an outlier on all accounts making him somewhat of a unique call up in any national team squad in recent memory.

Sad to read that post under Igor's photo . We area very small fish in the football sea . Igor has it all to prove and all to lose . I hope the fans dont give him a hard time

There is an opportunity though, for both Igor and J. Pedro.
Since Firmino, no one has really nailed the No 9 position. Our favourites(!) Richarlison (20 in 59 games) and G.Jesus (19 in 64) are often injured or out of form. They are both now 28, and the next generation has arrived!

I think Igor is used to proving people wrong though. With his background, I doubt doubters are going to affect him. More likely, spur him on.

One might also argue the opposite.
All to prove and all to win, seeing how Igor has stepped up to the Premier League the opportunity is all his and he certainly has the skill and the mentality for greatness

Igor Thiago

Will be fascinating to see how he gets on. A Brentford player, possibly playing with Brazil at a World Cup. Wow!

Igor Thiago

Double edged sword here, if he does make the squad there's going to be huge pressure for him to move to a bigger club.
Igor will easily hit 20 plus Premier League goals this season unless an injury or a shocking loss of form intervene. If he goes to the World Cup with Brazil and is a success how much would his transfer value be based on his age and long contract? A transfer fee approaching £100M? Image what Phil and Lee could do with that on top of the Mbeumo and Wissa transfer fees already banked.

I wonder if they're saying the same about Bournemouth and Rayan; he was picked as well. Probably getting a map out to see what country Bournemouth
is in:rolleyes:

Igor Thiago

Why?
He is at a top premier league side already who are challenging for Europe.
Maybe in two seasons time for 200 mil.......
maybe wrongly worded ,Igor wont be under any pressure to leave , but the WC is a huge stage to gain even more attention from bigger clubs who probably already have their eyes on him

Given the profile of club that would interest Thiago and his agent, plus the sort of numbers that would interest our management group, the number of clubs across Europe that would have the need and the means to be interested could be counted on one hand.

I make it two hands 🤷

Igor Thiago

… it might be two fingers!
In any market place only one genuine buyer is required, more than one if the seller wants to instigate an auction.
We are not a distressed seller. Igor is still young and on a long contract. As we proved with Bryan and Wissa, we only sell at our valuation.
I hope he stays but realise we are always likely to sell our best players if our valuation is met, both to generate income to improve the squad but also to encourage young talent to sign for us if they can see a pathway to a top European club.

£220m all in they could buy 2,930 Murray Jones’s!!

I'm thinking that the closest (and it's not exactly the same) equivalent scenario 'we' (the English national team) has had recently is when Angel Gomes got called up and played. I had never heard of him before and was a bit sniffy about him playing for Lille (Lyon? - can't remember which). He played quite well as I recall but it was always going to be hard to make that position his own without playing for a 'bigger' club

I’m sure he applies that pressure to himself. Strikers won’t be around us long if they keep scoring.

Maybe as we've not had anyone as unique as that come up in some time but he did come through United's youth team and made a handful of Premier League apperances. Cruzeiro aren't comparable to United and going to Lille is hardly like going to Bulgaria.

It'll probably be more like when Spurs get relegated in 2 months and play in the Championship, they have a lad from their youth team (I hear promising things about this kid Luca Williams-Barnett) feature throughout a couple of their seasons in the lower leagues... then the little fella having had enough of playing for a lower league team in financial turmoil moves to Deportivo Saprissa of the Costa Rican league, then to a top team in the Argentinian league, then gets a move to Getafe, smashes up La Liga and earns a call up for England.

I love the notion that scoring goals for #TeamsLikeBrentford is somehow inferior to scoring them for one of the 'big' clubs. The five highest PL scorers other than Igor all play for City, Arsenal, Liverpool and Chelsea. No one who plays for a 'smaller' club has scored more than half Igor's goals (DCL and Welbeck with 10). It was the same argument with Ivan - utterly ludicrous. Put either IT in the Arsenal, City or other top 6 side and how many goals would they score... Igor's stats are outrageoulsy good:

Remember when Owusu went away with Ghana at this stage of the season and did his groin which put pay to us getting promotion. I’ve got those vibes right now.

Really hope Igor has a great experience with Brazil and comes back fully fit. Without him we’re cooked for the last 7 games in all honesty.

The changing face of football in the PL, people need to get over it.

Agree with what is being said above. He worked his nuts off, never stopped running, challenging and defending when needed. A beast of a performance in what was a pretty tame game. The boy and I love this bloke, total quality and commitment!
