Igor Thiago

Igor Thiago

Brazilian fans might look a happy samba bunch but they can be nasty, with a must win attitude that deep in their nature too. Second best isn't an option.

Doughnuts
Hah. Yeah now I’ve seen that video it’s starting to show others. Loads of their team getting pelters so Igor’s not being singled out and is in illustrious company :ROFLMAO:

Igor Thiago

He wasn't full of confidence and didn't look great on the ball or take his 2 chances that well, but his movement off the ball was really good, he got in 2 good goalscoring positions despite not a lot being created for him, and if Vini jr had opted to cross instead of shoot for his goal, or if it's had spilled, Igor would have been at the back post for that as well. He occupied his centre backs well which gave vini he and raphinha more space to work with, and he pressed aggressively. So yes not the greatest performance and not that pretty on the eyes, but it actually wouldn't shock me if Don Carlo still picked him over Cunha and Endrick, tho I think it might shock and dismay the Brazil fans if he did.
I agree with you - as we all know Ancelotti is no mug, and I think he really appreciates Igor for all the more unseen aspects of his game. Igor is very much a team player and does all the hard work chasing down defenders and tracking back when necessary just like our own Harry Kane. I still see Igor starting games for Brazil, because he is more an Ancelotti type of player. At the end of the day, Brazil still got a draw against a very very good Morocco side.

Igor Thiago

Spot on, Shearer just wouldn’t stop going on about that one moment, like a broken record

....Shearer is a Bell End of the highest order; he has his opinion/agenda and sticks with it come hell or high water, even/especially when he's proved wrong

Did anybody notice if Igor actually touched the ball in the second half before the substitution, he did a lot of pressing and putting himself in positions to receive a pass, but none were forthcoming from his 'team mates'?

Yes he had a very decent effort saved

Let's be honest, of course he is going to struggle in a side made up of individuals that all have their own agenda and aren't used to playing as team, unlike Igor he's used to being part of unit who play for and treat each other with respect and understand each other. Personally I will judge him the same as when he plays for us and I know that he'll give 110% on the pitch and we should enjoy every game/season that we are graced with his skills and personality.
As for Shearer he's like the same as most pundits who only recognise players from the big clubs or teams and is quick to critisise any players who don't fit into those categories !!!!!!!!

With hindsight, might have been preferable for IT to have missed out on a starting place in last night's game, where Brazil were poor, and then given the opportunity to start in their next game, v Haiti. When he'd probably have more chances.

After last night's performance (by the whole team)/fans reactions, unlikely he'll start next game now?
On the bench tonight
Cunha starts...Great opportunity for him to score a couple/few and cement his starting place...

Igor Thiago

He doesn’t seem to be too upset with losing his place to Cunha, certainly the way he jumped on him after he had just scored for Brazil tonight.

Igor Thiago

A bit surprised to see IT didnt come on at all. And that Endrick was Cunha's replacement when Brazil were coasting.
Doesn't exactly suggest IT's gonna get much game time going forward.

Shouldn’t exaggerate, but it could possibly be said that his international future is dangling by a thread. The unlikely scenario of him coming off the bench to score the winner against Scotland might be his best hope.

Yep.
Brazil struggling in their next game, or an injury to one of IT's 'rivals' are his best bet now I reckon.

Unfortunately Igor was made the scapegoat for the Morocco performance, even though there were others who performed worse, particularly in the midfield. Brazil Twitter and media appears to have been pretty brutal in its treatment of him as well.

Igor Thiago

Lets be honest, Pele, Ronaldo, Romario, Ronaldhino, Rivaldo were 5 of the best ever to put on football boots, that is something to live up to.

IT does what he does, for us he is brilliant, works all day, holds up well, can finish and leads the team with passion. But he is never going to be that Brazilian flare player they all want. He will do a job for them when called upon and undoubtably on the pitch and off it drives everyone around him to be better and put more in. But lets not forget, he is still a kid really, only 1 full season after a year out. If he gets a few mins here and there and gets a goal, that will be some achievement for him and for us.

Lets get him home safely as soon as his w***y friends get him knocked out and rest him until Spurs come to town for a long overdue thrashing.

Nothing new there, entitled fan base above all others, so much success has made them think they deserve it. They don't know what is is like for being like us and the dutch who only own bridesmaid dresses, and we treat ours like gods.

Igor Thiago

He was first sun in jumping on top of players for the goals respect

Bloody Vickery

Don't think we'll see him against Scotland for the reasons already aired but with potentially five knockout rounds to navigate and the likelihood of at least one penalty shootout if Brazil go deep in the competition, I think he could still have his moment.

Igor Thiago

I doubt the Brazil fans are being influenced by an English journalist.
At what point are people going to realize Vickery was never stating his personal opinion on if he's good enough to be in the team, but rather his opinions about the parts of Brazil football culture that make Thiago a tough sell to the public and he's been right about all of that.

Igor Thiago

The good news is that at this point it is likely that Igor will still be at the GTech next season.
Definately. And we get another 20 + goals from him next season and his value goes up again. Win win

Igor Thiago

This is just personal opinion, but I thought once his scoring got highlighted in the press, teams man marked him out of many games, especially towards the end of the season, the question is, is he good and physical enough to get the better of this tactic? we'll see next season.

You're right I'm sure. I think the answer to your question is yes.
He'll get used to it and learn to adapt. It doesn't help when we depend on him too much as our main source of goals. It's inevitable that he's then marked out of the game and it all becomes too predictable.

I can’t imagine opposition analysts start with press reports!

I think, due to our very thin squad, we were unable to change/evolve our style of play so thus became more dependent on Thiago to deliver. The analysts spotted this trend. Hopefully, we’ll have more ball-playing, attack-focused players fit and available this coming season, so more able to mix it up more.

Igor Thiago

One unknown is that we don’t really have any stats on how he traditionally does in his second season as he was only at Ludogorets and Club Brugge for just the one season and he missed most of his first with us due to injury and even then getting up to speed with the PL is not a true indicator of his performance levels so it should be intriguing to find out.

In my opinion, he’s still a rough diamond that needs polishing; his enthusiasm and effort cannot be argued, but his close control and situation awareness has room for improvement. Nonetheless what he has achieved this last season is quite phenomenal, culminating in his thoroughly deserved inclusion into the Brazil WC squad.

I, for one, would like to see him stay with us for a while longer to see what KA and his staff can do to help him reach even greater heights.

Whether its analysts or the press makes no difference, the fact is he was man marked out of games, yes I agree we need other forward outlets, but the question remains, is he good enough to get the better of his defensive markers! I think we'll only know for sure next season, let's hope he is.

I also agree wholeheartedly with your post, however, if we receive a very large bid I will put up with not witnessing him achieving even greater heights.

I would suggest such a bid would need to be north of 100 million for us to even consider it on the basis of it would take a hefty sum to replace him at short notice

It's not really short notice the transfer window has only been open a week or so. Anyway for me he's not worth that no one is paying £100m

Igor Thiago

If you haven’t been paying attention, Phil has a track record of finding people who aren’t in their right minds and pulling their pants down…
So you're saying whoever buys him. Will be overpaying,
At £100 million, that was exactly my point!

Your point was you can’t see people overpaying for IT. My point was I can and we have history. However, I don’t think we want to sell so I expect we will set the price even above such unreasonably high levels…

We have reached this height in the league structure by selling. We are in reality an expensive sales organisation for players and have made many millions selling them over the years. I believe we set a value and whatever may be said at the time if that value is reached the sale is made. That value will be fair and reasonable but top dollar, accordingly we will not over value.

There’s got to be two dimensions to ‘value’.

One is the open market value – actually very difficult to estimate in the rarified air BFC has now reached.

The second is the value at this moment to BFC – this will be very difficult for us fans to estimate but I’m sure Phil has a dynamic spreadsheet! In conjunction with the player and his agent, it may be agreed that there will be a better value at a point in the future.

Anyway, I don’t think he’s going anywhere this window.

We sell at the right price but only at the right time. Furo has obviously been bought as Thiago's long-term replacement and that is predicated on a sale in 2027 or 2028, I would guess.
It's looking very unlikely Thiago is going to make an impact at the World Cup so makes it much more unlikely we'll get an offer this summer that we can't refuse.

Igor Thiago

I suspect multiple clubs are waiting another season to bid anything close to 100M for Thiago.
And I think that would be fair, he had a very good season just gone, considering it was his first full season. Over a third of his EPL goals came from the spot.
His contributions in other areas of the pitch were noticeable and he worked his socks off in games, which clearly our recruiters value in a player.
He still has a high ceiling, and clubs will need to work out exactly what sort of striker they would be getting and how he will fit into their preferred systems.
I would imagine he is still a bit too much of a risk for any of the ‘ big 6’ to lash out 9 figures on, particularly as he was fairly anonymous in Brazil’s first World Cup game,

Yes, I am sure that Phil will fully understand the various different interpretations of value at any one time. He will sell when he considers the time is right. After many years of watching him he appears to make few mistakes.

Igor Thiago

No minutes in two games and the Brazilians finding their groove without him, not great!
There will be more difficult games ahead for Brazil, especially now that it becomes a knockout tournament and if it isn’t going well for Ancelotti he will call on Mr T to see what he can do.
