Staying at Current Club Ivan Toney

I would not like to see toney sold. But at 45 mil, he could be replaced with another young player and still have cash leftover for the club. I’ve had my eyes on Charles De Ketelaere for a bit and his asking price seems to be 35-40 mil, not sure if he’s the best option but a young player with boatloads of potential. Plus if Brentford would sign him, would snatch a Leeds target away. Very niche scenario though, would be only if Toney is sold and as a replacement so really a waste of time to speak if it… yet here I am. Wasting time.

Maybe we'd be having a different conversation if he were 29 and not 26. We've struck absolute gold with him, this type of player should be up for sale under no circumstances. We're in a much different position then we were even a year ago in regards to having to sell key players.

Ivan Toney

I think he's irreplaceable at the moment. He's an excellent finisher, defender, penalty taker and leader. I wouldn't accept 50 million personally because I think he's priceless to the way we play.

I genuinely think if we were in a position we had to sell him in the next few weeks then we'd be in massive, massive trouble this season.

We can’t compete with the top half of the table without continuing with the model, we need to run to stand still financially.

I'm pretty sure we can manage without selling Toney. He's the last main player you'd want us to sell if our hands were forced. I know we've pulled some class strikers out of nowhere these last 10 years, but I can't imagine it would be easy to replicate and match Ivan's output in the premier league.

What you have in him is a very versatile forward within touching distance of the England squad, who can play in numerous shapes, a hold up striker who links up play and poaches goals all at the same time. Considering what we got for Watkins, 45 Million is what we would have asked for last year before he smashed it in his debut season in the PL. No price for Ivan Toney. Here for 3 more years ?

All the above are great reasons to keep a top class player, but in the real world when man unt offer 50m we all know how it pans out,

Ivan Toney

It might all just be paper talk but I think we could manage fine if it came about. We’ve done it time and again since we went up to the Championship, lost Donaldson and couldn’t afford Trotta yet still outperformed everyone’s dire predictions of doom by a long margin. Keep the faith.
I still don't think there's anything in this, but disagree we would be fine. You can't compare previous situations in an inferior division with now and in any case, Toney was no unknown or under the radar signing.

We all know that it's as much Toney's all round game and leadership that is his value as well as his goals (of which there are few from open play). I agree with you saying we will already have the names of other strikers in the event that Toney goes, but I really don't think that time is now, with 2 weeks before the start of the season. We would be in dire straits with Mbeumo and Wissa/Halil leading the line for a season. Look at the number of times we were able to change to a more direct game with some success with Toney there. Until our midfield are able to retain the ball better (post Eriksen), we will always need Toney.

I'm sure clubs will be sniffing around at some point, but don't think they'll pay what we want (£50m). Whenever he does go, we are not going to be able to replace like with like, and expect our transfer record to go again.

Ivan Toney

I would personally drive any player to their destination for 40-50m

His hold up play is absolutely brilliant, although his 'in-play' scoring record hasn't been exactly world beating since the last few months in the championship. Although not totally sure on the facts.

Do I want to keep him, absolutely. Do I think the club have the ability to find the next gen, absolutely.

You couldn't blame him for doubling his wages and joining the new projects at Newcastle / Man Utd. If there is one player at this club that totally about themselves and wants to aim as high as possible, I think it's him. Good luck to him too.

Newcastle want another striker before season starts. Back to his old club?

Minimum £50M and nearer £60M we deal but personally I would rather we had a replacement as proven goal scorers are like hens teeth.

Ivan Toney

Not fussed about this one. At the moment I think our valuation exceeds what anyone else would be prepared to pay. Plus I can't see Ivan's head being turned by the likes of Leeds or Newcastle to be honest.

Ivan Toney

Could this possibly be the work of his agent seeking a new deal for Ivan?

Ivan Toney

Didn’t they enquire early in the window and said the price we quoted was ridiculous?
Utter rubbish

No player is off limits. Player trading is what we do well.

Ivan Toney

Richarlison (10 PL goals last season; contracted til 2024) - £50m + add-ons
Raphinha (11; 2024) - £50m +
Gabriel Jesus (8; 2023) - £45m +

Ivan Toney (12; 2025)… and remember you’d be negotiating with Phil Giles.

So the opening asking price would be £70m, just to set a level of expectations and I guess we’d sell for £60m. But who’s going to pay that and needs a CF? Man U if Ronnie does a runner, The Toon? The porn twins won’t and Ivan’s not going to go to Leeds or Everton. He’s a confident lad and with service from KLP and Hickey will surely back himself to score nearer 20 goals this season. Do that and next summer’s transfer window looks very different for all concerned. So, hopefully, we can enjoy him sticking the ball in the back of the net for a while yet.

Leaving aside the reliability of the Sun as a source of info, let’s think it through.

£30m seems obviously far too low and likely nowhere near our valuation of Toney. It’d probably have been too low last summer before he had a season where he showed he could cut it in the PL and demonstrated his all round play. £50m would not be unreasonable.

While I’m sure BFC was not planning to sell, it is a selling club and an offer at or above its valuation would I think be listened to. Buying another out and out striker was not a priority but I doubt it means we haven’t had our eyes on a few possibilities. I don’t have any qualms about whether the sorts we’d have identified at up to £20m or so would be anything short of mustard. It is also perhaps interesting that they’ve been trying out Bryan up top without Toney on the pitch in the two friendlies. Wissa is also probably better suited to a central role having had time to get his eye in from wider. Halil also looks like he’s got a chance to shine which he’s working hard on taking. And we’ve just broken our transfer record on KLP.

Leeds are desperate for a striker as presently they only have Bamford who is made of glass and two youngsters in Gelhardt and Greenwood. They also have £55m of Raphinha money burning a hole in their pocket. If they can pay £30m for Dan f***ing James they can pay properly for Ivan.

Newcastle also can pay much more if they can pay £25m for Wood and maybe Ivan might feel he has unfinished business up there.

It might all just be paper talk but I think we could manage fine if it came about. We’ve done it time and again since we went up to the Championship, lost Donaldson and couldn’t afford Trotta yet still outperformed everyone’s dire predictions of doom by a long margin. Keep the faith.
Leeds also have £65 Million from sale of Philips.

3 big defenders plus Ivan meant we didn't concede to any? corners, last season. With the state of our big blokes at the mo, we need to keep him.

Ivan Toney

I was wondering that too. Been quiet all summer then all of a sudden he’s linked with 4 clubs in 1 day. Maybe his agent fancies some of the money we’d set aside for u know who

Ivan Toney

Carrying on controversial theme, if they offered 40/45m plus, would be tempted? Not sure there’s a lot more development in him..
That’s as maybe, however, how much would you be prepared to spend on a replacement?

Ivan Toney

Some people have a mistaken belief that we are a 'selling club' but the truth is we are actually an upgrading club who develops talent and moves players on.

With the exception of Big Ears, I dont think we have sold a player against our will.

Take our forward line and i probably have these in the wrong order but we have succesfully replaced Scott, Gray, Hogan, Maupay and Watkins all for profit and all for an upgrade.

I dont think we will listen to offers unless we want to, to be honest i wouldnt be suprised of we actually circulated a list of players we were open to offers to.

Ive no doubt that Toney will be sold, but only when we are ready.

£30m is not enough to tempt us, 50 to 60 million might be considered... but that consideration will factor in that every Premier League place is worth millions.

Ivan Toney

We transferred Hogan, Gray, Watkins, Benrahma, and each time we said how are we going to replace those goalscorers.
‘Particularly with the last two, we thought we might have lost our strike force to get us to the PL… and then what happened!!!

If Toney goes, I am sure that the club is already one step ahead of that possibility.
The plan is always rolling forward, not just for the next few games, but for the longer term!

Out there, there is some unknown player, who is scoring goals for fun in some below the radar club, and down the line we’ll all be singing his praises in due course.
Plus, Toney and most of the current squad will not still be here within a relatively short period of time, so it’s just a matter of modern football life.

The club evolves and new players come in to put on the red and white. Some stay for 3 or 4 years, some for just a season.

I‘ve lost count of how many players I’ve seen play for us over the decades. Must be in the many hundreds, probably about 750.
They all left for one reason or another, but the club is still here.

I was more worried when we lost our twin strike force of Towers and Francis, who scored over 250 goals between them!
No one in the modern era comes even close to that!

Whoever our next striker is, he’ll be here for 3 years max, and then be gone.
Towers and Francis? Yes, as true today as it was then, and look what happened to us in the ensuing 50 years!

Ivan Toney

I don’t think Toney will go this season. I think he will go next summer. He knows that if he performs incredibly well, he could get a big offer from a big club. The question is: go with Wissa/Halil up top or bring in another big ‘un.

Ivan Toney

If Chris Wood cost £30m then IT must be worth easily north of £50m. I would guess that PG and co. have mapped out several scenarios should someone offer enough money.

Ivan Toney

They won't bother after they ask for CE's view
A very interesting comment - and possible a bit concerning. Can you expand, or is it a tongue-in-cheek comment based on the stories that that Danish (?) poster was putting forward about Toney and CE not getting on?

Ivan Toney

Is this anything more than paper talk though? Nothing to see here was my initial reaction to those articles…

Having joined GPG a year ago in March, after a lifetime supporting us, and having enjoyed reading it every day of my retirement, I still don’t understand the logic of how it’s supposed to work. Ergo,
GPG is open to all comers Bees and non-Bees;
we know that Smartodds and other switched on organisations scan fan sites for value added insights;
yet on one small rumour from the Sun/Mirror is all it takes to trigger a tsunami of angst of our innermost thoughts on our most precious striker, and everything else he has brought to our team.

Ivan Toney

He will go if the price is right. I’ve never been convinced Ivan sees us as anything other than a way to progress to the next level (he ruled out signing for us before he actually signed and those social media videos aren’t a great look)….if his representatives think there’s a chance to earn £7m or so a year they will be pushing for a deal. Ultimately it will be down to the price as we won’t keep a player if wants to move. Might explain why Halil is still with us as we might need a bit of depth here if we bring in a new player who would take time to settle in.

Ivan Toney

The United link might not be, but the Sun’s story about Leeds and 30 million obviously is
The Manchester United link was mentioned in the Manchester Evening news website last week.
5 strikers to play for Utd.Dybala was one and Ivan Toney was also.
Can't remember the other 3.
Stuff like that turns heads.
Brighton do not want Neal Maupay.
Ideal replacement.

Haha oh you get used to it trust me. Plenty get there knickers in a twist very easily on here. This is pleasantly calm compared to normal lol

Ivan Toney

I think the rumours of various clubs “considering making a bid” is probably nonsense but we know Ivan wants a new deal so it could be the agent agitating for renewed negotiations.

He’s been amazing for us in the last two seasons but I do believe if he was sold or sustained a long term injury we would be okay. So I’m pretty relaxed either way.

Ivan Toney

If Spurs sell Kane, they'll have a spare £90m to spend. ?

Ivan Toney

Out of all the “top” stars we have in our squad, Toney is the one I am most relaxed about leaving. The others, which are irreplaceable IMO at a decent price are Raya, Henry, Ajer and Norgaard. And I hope to add KLP and Hickey to that list.

He has it all except a turn of pace that differentiates him from the best strikers in the league. A £50mill plus bid and replaced with a quicker, more nimble striker would be feasible

I think Ivan has found his level....he doesn't look to have bags of improvement in him imo.

He probably has earned a shot but if I were a United fan I'd be wanting/hoping for better ?

Ivan has been fabulous for us and I am happy for him to stay equally I'd be happy for us to take a large sum and leave it to the recruitment team to make us better still.
