This “speculation” isn’t even worthy of a thread. It’s the Sun for starters, 30 million valuation and Leeds mentioned. Funniest “rumour” of the window.

TBF its probably a more "worthy" thread than the Ilias Chair one ??

Nowhere near enough but I hope this doesn’t unsettle Ivan

He goes, we get relegated, simple as that in my eyes
I don’t think I would go that far but losing Ivan would undoubtedly make us weaker. His goal scoring, penalties, hold up play, defensive work etc would be a huge loss and would require several players to step up and take these roles on.

I doubt we’d turn down 45M. We’d also have a very unhappy player on our hands.

Can’t see anyone paying that however!

Ivan Toney

£45mill is only worth it if we have a suitable replacement, whilst making a profit

Ivan Toney

This late in the window, he is completing the training camp in Germany, years left on the contract, seems happy … gonna take
£55/60m

I was worried that the regular Saturday night nonsense wasn’t happening this week

Ivan Toney

Who we gonna play up front without him ??
I'm sure if we sold him we'd have someone else lined up but we've got Mbeumo/Dervisoglu/Wissa, all of whom are looking very sharp already.. It's all irrelevant as no-one will pay the money we'd ask for but I honestly don't think it'd be a disaster.

We transferred Hogan, Gray, Watkins, Benrahma, and each time we said how are we going to replace those goalscorers.
‘Particularly with the last two, we thought we might have lost our strike force to get us to the PL… and then what happened!!!

If Toney goes, I am sure that the club is already one step ahead of that possibility.
The plan is always rolling forward, not just for the next few games, but for the longer term!

Out there, there is some unknown player, who is scoring goals for fun in some below the radar club, and down the line we’ll all be singing his praises in due course.
Plus, Toney and most of the current squad will not still be here within a relatively short period of time, so it’s just a matter of modern football life.

The club evolves and new players come in to put on the red and white. Some stay for 3 or 4 years, some for just a season.

I‘ve lost count of how many players I’ve seen play for us over the decades. Must be in the many hundreds, probably about 750.
They all left for one reason or another, but the club is still here.

I was more worried when we lost our twin strike force of Towers and Francis, who scored over 250 goals between them!
No one in the modern era comes even close to that!

Whoever our next striker is, he’ll be here for 3 years max, and then be gone.

Leaving aside the reliability of the Sun as a source of info, let’s think it through.

£30m seems obviously far too low and likely nowhere near our valuation of Toney. It’d probably have been too low last summer before he had a season where he showed he could cut it in the PL and demonstrated his all round play. £50m would not be unreasonable.

While I’m sure BFC was not planning to sell, it is a selling club and an offer at or above its valuation would I think be listened to. Buying another out and out striker was not a priority but I doubt it means we haven’t had our eyes on a few possibilities. I don’t have any qualms about whether the sorts we’d have identified at up to £20m or so would be anything short of mustard. It is also perhaps interesting that they’ve been trying out Bryan up top without Toney on the pitch in the two friendlies. Wissa is also probably better suited to a central role having had time to get his eye in from wider. Halil also looks like he’s got a chance to shine which he’s working hard on taking. And we’ve just broken our transfer record on KLP.

Leeds are desperate for a striker as presently they only have Bamford who is made of glass and two youngsters in Gelhardt and Greenwood. They also have £55m of Raphinha money burning a hole in their pocket. If they can pay £30m for Dan f***ing James they can pay properly for Ivan.

Newcastle also can pay much more if they can pay £25m for Wood and maybe Ivan might feel he has unfinished business up there.

It might all just be paper talk but I think we could manage fine if it came about. We’ve done it time and again since we went up to the Championship, lost Donaldson and couldn’t afford Trotta yet still outperformed everyone’s dire predictions of doom by a long margin. Keep the faith.

Sorry we have no target man without Ivan, no leader up front and it would be a disaster if we sold him for anything less than £50M at this stage. In fact make it £60M as we would need to pay OTT to replace and then not sure we could at short notice.

Ivan Toney

It would take a colossal offer taking it to account the Barry Fry finger in the pie.

It’d have to be >£50m. I trust the club to find a suitable replacement for a lot less. It isn’t mandatory to play with a target man and Toney spent large parts of the season much deeper or wider than that. I want him to stay but I’d give BFC credit that it would know how to cope and improve anyway.

The report seems to be from the Mirror rather than the Sun. West Ham (also desperate) and Man U who if CR7 goes are relying on Martial who has scored 5 PL goals in the last two seasons. If there’s anything in it there’ll be a big bidding war.

Quality Premier ready strikers with goals in them are like hens teeth and cost fortunes, I question whether at this late stage if we would cope and improve anyway. Just my opinion

We seem to be quite the alchemists in this regard.

Hopefully we agree with Ivan that if he stays we won't stop him leaving next season if our price is met. At least then we will have all summer and not just 3 weeks to get somebody before the season starts.

Hopefully, this whole thing is just made up blx, probably driven by some chatter on fans' sites like the GPG! "weighing up moves", for goodness sake, what exactly does that mean? It means The Sun can disclaim any responsibility for the truth, I think.

Ivan Toney

Good idea. I was thinking of selling if the price was wrong, but you've taught me something new!
My response was to someone who said we would go down if we lost him and shouldnt sell due to it.

However, if you want to take it out of context and try to be a smart arse. You are only making yourself look stupid!
