Who's that then???Isn't that what we've been doing for years now? I reckon his replacement could already have been signed.

Could be correct. The new keeper is about 7ft tallIsn't that what we've been doing for years now? I reckon his replacement could already have been signed.
Well, I never thought Ollie would make it leading the front line but obviously a lot of work had been put into coaching him into that role.Who's that then???![]()
Twidderly boots! Crap defender but surprisingly good upfront for a bit. Was it 3 at home v Bristol Rovers but we still lost?Reminds me when we converted denny mundee to a striker,
They both had only one year on their contract so City had to sell. IT has 3 years left (plus an option?) so we can dictate whatever price we feel like!given that Man City have sold two top mid-twenties strikers/forwards for + - £50m each makes talk of Our man being worth that a dream.
Denzil put in a transfer request because he said he couldn't manage on his wages. I remember the ever so lovely David Webb saying that if he couldn't manage on £400 a week there must be something wrong with him. A kind of 90's Erickson (sic) (can't be arsed to Google the correct spelling of his name anymore) Scenario.Reminds me when we converted denny mundee to a striker,
We've also signed that bloke from Hull who's supposed to be a bit tasty. But I agree. You don't buy a Wissa and not use it. He's gonna be a great player. My Orient mate was gutted to lose him.Well, I never thought Ollie would make it leading the front line but obviously a lot of work had been put into coaching him into that role.
Wissa could do it.
Wissa is going to be a sensation this season. On fire even. We've also signed that bloke from Hull who's supposed to be a bit tasty. But I agree. You don't buy a Wissa and not use it. He's gonna be a great player. My Orient mate was gutted to lose him.
Even if the player wants to go?If we sell we’re batshit crazy. End of!
Exactly. Desperately want him to stay, but if he decides he wants to go and we stop him he'll fail the dickhead test miserably. He only scraped through with a C+ as it is.Even if the player wants to go?
7 goals in 30 appearances last season and how many times out of that 30 was he only on the pitch for about 2 minutes? Wissa time (can't touch Wiss).Wissa is going to be a sensation this season. On fire even.

What happened at Peterborough?Don't see why
Happened at Peterborough according to McWotsit and he did alright that season.
Ivan wanted to leave and they persuaded him not toWhat happened at Peterborough?
Without a replacement with 2 weeks before KO yes!Even if the player wants to go?
He and his dad were demanding a move in Jan window as interest but Daragh sat them down and said you will have more suitors offering more money if you score more goals and increase your value and earning potential. What happened at Peterborough?

He’s no Toney replacement tho. He might be equal if not a better finisher than Toney but we lose leadership, defending and penalties.i agree. Look at his goals last season… you could argue he’s the best finisher at the club.
I doubt he'll go this window but let's hope we have a contingency plan should it happen. Toney remains our talisman up front and it's not so straightforward to replace him at least in an economically viable way.if the club accepts an offer and he goes Phil G will have an upgrade lined up for sure.......happy daze !
There's always Charlie Goode. Remember when he was playing up front...Well, I never thought Ollie would make it leading the front line but obviously a lot of work had been put into coaching him into that role.
Wissa could do it.
Ivan wanted to leave and they persuaded him not to
Completely different situation though. I wasn't previously aware of the above, but it seems to me that Peterborough and the Toney lads made exactly the right call under the circumstances. But would they have got a player out of him if they'd refused him a move paying the sort of money Newcastle, Manchester United or, erm, Leeds would pay him now? Can't see it somehow. He and his dad were demanding a move in Jan window as interest but Daragh sat them down and said you will have more suitors offering more money if you score more goals and increase your value and earning potential.
He did and we got him
I wouldn't argue with that at all.i agree. Look at his goals last season… you could argue he’s the best finisher at the club.
I still think he played up front for Exeter and we put him on the wing in his first season, then realised he should have been leading the line and changed things the following season.Well, I never thought Ollie would make it leading the front line but obviously a lot of work had been put into coaching him into that role.

No, that rewrites things. He spent two seasons on the wing for us not one. It wasn’t a “doh, what were we thinking?” change but always in plan to develop him into a striker after he’d had time to learn how to read the game at a higher level than L2 from the wing. It was still a risk and a gamble to play him there in 19/20 when Maupay left.I still think he played up front for Exeter and we put him on the wing in his first season, then realised he should have been leading the line and changed things the following season.
I think this is right and will be done very well when the time comes. I can see Wissa scoring a lot this season, Bryan’s looking good, Halil encouraging and KLP promising. If those 4 have good seasons they could (along with Sergi!) be a very strong front line without needing Toney or a target man the next season. We would probably still pose that sort of threat from set pieces by sending the CBs forward and both VJ and CN are good at such things. If he does go (unlikely) we change to a more mobile front two or three and don't rely on the target man.
And I don’t think you/we need should forget Saman, who has looked good when paired with Bryan upfront.I think this is right and will be done very well when the time comes. There’s too much sense written here!!!From Jay Harris in the Athletic:
Is there any truth in the Toney transfer rumours? — Benny H
Toney was bound to attract interest from other teams after scoring 12 league goals in his first full season of top-flight football, yet Brentford have no intention of selling him or any of their key players this summer.
The striker still has three years left on his contract so the club are in a strong position to reject any offers they might receive. It would take a hefty bid for them to consider letting him leave.
When you consider Brentford sold Ollie Watkins, who had no top-flight experience at the time, to Aston Villa for £28million ($33.6m today) two years ago, they could make a compelling argument that Toney is worth at least double that to any potential buyer.

Completely agree. I think it would be a disaster if Ivan left right now. I’m not trying to convince myself at all - just pointing out my opinion on Wissa. ??He’s no Toney replacement tho. He might be equal if not a better finisher than Toney but we lose leadership, defending and penalties.
I think anyone trying to convince themselves that it’s time to sell Toney is completely bonkers.
Absolutely, and he's looking a hell of a lot sharper so far after a good pre-season.i agree. Look at his goals last season… you could argue he’s the best finisher at the club.
The problem then is we couldn’t easily adapt our game to go more long ball against the top sides. This wasn’t a problem in the championship as we were a match for anyone sticking to playing tippy tappyIf he does go (unlikely) we change to a more mobile front two or three and don't rely on the target man.

The biggest issue for any club trying to survive in the EPL is goal scoring. Toney will deliver goals if we create the chances. I'm not a fan of the Stoke tactics we have employed in some games (how many goals resulted from long throws and punts from the back?) but here is much more to his game. The problem then is we couldn’t easily adapt our game to go more long ball against the top sides. Other than penalties he doesn't score that many at PL level. The biggest issue for any club trying to survive in the EPL is goal scoring. Toney will deliver goals if we create the chances. True but at the same time I’m conscious that there were games when we missed Ivan’s height. Key example was Man City away, We played ok but first goal was as a result of Sergi getting frustrated at the ball keep coming back when he was clearing his lines and hence getting caught in possession trying to play out from the backNot entirely. You can still play long passes utilising the speed of Bryan, Wissa, KLP... It's a different type of "long ball" but it still works as a change of approach.
"Doesn't"......??......Other than penalties he doesn't score that many at PL level.
That is not the way to look at his price. One there is no pressure on us to sell, Two we have to take into account his total cost ie signing on fee, two agents fees plus the many add on’s already paid, plus the original transfer fee, Three the sell on fee of possibly 30%, Four the cost to us of a replacement Premier League Striker, and Five as we are not a philanthropic society we are entitled to a profit. My estimate is a minimum £50 million fee take it or leave it.given that Man City have sold two top mid-twenties strikers/forwards for + - £50m each makes talk of Our man being worth that a dream.
Jeez he's had one season, it was our first season at a new level and for a chunk of that we were really struggling with injuries. Given that I'm amazed he got into double figures. Most of the strikers in the other 14 didn't!Other than penalties he doesn't score that many at PL level.
Jesus weptOther than penalties he doesn't score that many at PL level.

Given the contract he has at our club and given the possibility of his getting an England cap this coming season if he scores regularly in the PL might his transfer price be much much higher in 2023 when we have signed a replacement and the level of prospective purchaser better (ie teams in European competition)?
If so that would surely be the best outcome for IT and ourselves
