Funny enough, I was wondering if Michael Turner would make our team now. I was/am a big fan of the guy, but Tarks is better surely. Possibly (going off piste) Tony Craig too. Still have fond memories though.

If you think Craig and Dean would get picked ahead of him you're ****ing mad.

I think he would get in ahead of Dean ;) Thought Tarks was excellent again aside from his mistake which unfortunately cost us at least 1 point and who knows what may have happened if it had stayed 0-0?

James Tarkowski -

I can think of three exceptional centre backs in the last 20 years; Tarks, Turner and Powell. Any 2 from those three would be a pretty handy partnership.

James Tarkowski -

I was thinking it through alright! :banghead:

James Tarkowski -

Brilliant player but he needs to cut out these lapses of concentration.

James Tarkowski -

We will see more mistakes before he is the finished article, hard to believe he is still a teenager.

He was magnificent last night other than 1 stray pass....ouch.

James Tarkowski -

I think that mistake cost us the game not just the goal .
He did the same thing on Saturday but got away with it

There were several similar misplaced passes in the first half at Bournemouth and he nearly gave up a goal after letting the ball slip under his foot at Rotherham but Button bailed him out when he saved the resulting one on one. He also had his pants pulled down by McCormack for Fulham's goal.

If Dean had made these errors he would be back on the bench but Tarky's "upside" is such that there's no question of him being dropped.

Fantastic player but the England talk is way premature.

Perhaps this is why has hasn't progressed more until now. It is one thing making mistakes in Lg1, another in the Champ and could prevent him, if it isn't eradicated from his game, being a great centre back.

He is a quality CB in that he is competent in the air, can time a tackle, great with the ball at his feet, can pass and, most critically, can read the game. Some of the great CB of all time Moore, Beckenbaur, Baresi, Des Walker had exactly those attributes (clearly to World Class levels) which meant they didn't need to be pacey. If Tarky could cut out the gaffes (not sure if it is lack of concentration or too blasé in what he is doing) he could be extremely good indeed.

I'll allow him the odd faux pas as long as he learns and keeps on developing. He was magnificent again last night bar that one very costly howler.

I love Harlee but he needs to stop the silly mistakes that he is prone to in virtually every game. To be fair at this time I think a pairing of TC and Harlee would have struggled against most teams we've faced this season and while I concede Tarkowski may have cost us the game last night, for me inspires confidence as is commanding, composed and always seems to find time like most class players. Given he needs to cut out silly mistakes but without him we'd find ourselves under far more pressure IMHO.

Leon Townley

Oi don't you be having a pop at Leon, how many other centre backs can you recall scoring a brace for Brentford in recent years. lol lol lol lol lol

James Tarkowski -

The way we want to play will lead at times to mistakes. Over time there will be fewer and fewer. If we were to revert to lumping it long and losing possession, it may not be as noticiable but I would suggest more goals would be conceded by losing possession to teams who can retain the ball well themselves .

And now remind everyone how many players Blackpool had when he did score them:idea:

Difficult one to call as I thought the TC and tarkowski pairing would be the one MW would go with.I think TC make fewer mistakes in a game than the other twoand wonder what has to happen for him to get a start again

I just think it would be a bit hard on Harlee to be dropped just yet. He got caught dithering on the edge of the box once that fortunately came to nothing, that aside he was solid and played well alongside Tarks.
I think the preferred pairing may well have been JT and TC but Harlee was probably a better bet against the big and quick Jerome last night.
For large periods Harlee managed him well and we were over run for his first goal as they had about 5 on 3 and his second was a pearler from outside the box.
I think MW may be trying to keep Harlee onside as his interview suggested he wouldn't be hanging around if he was warming the bench indefinitely.

I suspect that whoever misses a game first will be replaced by TC and if the new pairing again goes well the one who missed a game will have to wait until their next opportunity through suspension or injury. We have 3 very solid CB's and unless we play all 3 one will always be unhappy, but ready to grab their chance.
I'm sure longer term MW will see Tarks and Harlee as his preferred pairing purely because age will be against TC longer term especially if we continue with our progression as a club.

The key to the two CBs making fewer mistakes (aside from ensuring an imaculate first touch and awareness of what space and time they have) is midfield giving them easy options. JD is the obvious outlet sitting where he does beween midfield and defence, but the others need to be aware of the need to provide an option, especially if teams press high up and put pressure on the back 4 receiving the ball from Button.

honestly have no idea why he took the penalty ….

He never took one for Oldham first team and in can't recall him taking them at yoof level either.

How bad was it?

presumably :banghead:

he's been :banghead:

at pens :banghead:
(our weakness) :banghead:
in training :banghead:

in fact, what other idea could possibly occur?!

It hit the away end stand just below the seats.

Why did he take it? No idea. I was worried that it would affect his game, but he came through in the end.

James Tarkowski -

Gelson v Aldershot anyone?

According to Richard Lee Tarky had been stroking them home in training no,problem!

Plan B awaits methinks

James Tarkowski -

Warbs said he was our penalty taker on radio London. Sounds like he may take them in the future too. Hope not mind.

James Tarkowski -

fair enough, attacking players are often the first guesses (as well as Gray i suppose). but we didn't have an incumbent, anyway. and a defender who strikes the ball well can do the job. (for other clubs anyway - we are clearly deep in a penalty curse :()
