Just catching up but I've never seen a standing ovation during a game for an opposition player; quite appalling. People looking at me as I sat with my arms folded... I chose to say nothing but it was a chilling moment; what happened to Brentford fans? I can't wait to see Paul McShane carried around the perimeter when Reading visit .

Jonathan Douglas

He was applauded all afternoon which I found embarrassing, we've moved on its about time some fans did.

Good post. Shameful moment in our history. How soft the twelfth man has become. Ipswich fans loved it!

Jonathan Douglas

It's all over the GPG, Coventry and Forest has been done, too powerful has been mentioned, slapping Jota today at the end says more than I can say in this post, doesn't it?
It's not all over the gpg it's buried in the detail though, the happy clappers and the new 5000 won't find it. You have to dedicate an hour a day to stumble across what needs to be known if you are not itk.
That's why what happened today happened.

Jonathan Douglas

Like CD, like Stephen Hunt, like many others but not this one, slapping Jota at the end was his final bit of guvnor bit at GP I hope.

Well it would be the first time he had got near an opposition player for a while.
Usually found wandering around the centre circle letting players run past him

Jonathan Douglas

To be totaly fair 99% of supporters don't get privileged information , if they did they may have acted different today.

Too true, apart from a few "ITK" or know someone who is "ITK" most fans wouldn't have clue if anything had gone on behind the scenes so why should they act as if they did know. To the average fan he was a decent player who contributed a great deal over the last fours years and was told to go, applauding him was a departing act of thanks no more no less.

Jonathan Douglas

Seems to me that about 9000 gave him a clap and the 20 that didn't are all on the GPG tonight . We didn't imagine the reception he got so all you clever clogs are calling your fellow in the majority fans classless

Maybe it's you ?

For the record I clapped him but didn't stand up in recognition of the fine committed service he gave us over 3 of the best years in our history . Those that want to deride his contribution as unseen etc are deluding themselves . It was time to move on from the Dougie era but some of the comments about his ability are frankly laughable

Yep, 9000 of course , that'll be about right.

Jonathan Douglas

he got a bigger ovation that the whole team did when they walked out at the start of the game, fcking disgrace

Yeah, you're right. He was brilliant today. Changed the game.

Jonathan Douglas

Gave him a little clap, if that offends anyone then you can fu** off. Well that's cleared that one up!

Gosh Natalie , there's me thinking you were such a nice girl.......

Jonathan Douglas

Fulhamization.

1. Class is backing your own, even when the chips are down.
2. Class ain't cheering/clapping a disruptive ex-player in opposition.

By all means give him polite applause during the warm up if you want to. Then it's war.

What a soft as ***** home crowd we have become.

Jonathan Douglas

It better then when we just give a player sh*t for leaving us. To be honest from what I've heard/know he left under a cloud but I appreciate his efforts for us on the pitch and glad he got some appreciation (no idea how much it was as I wasn't there). Its better then cringing when we gave Hunty off all people abuse last year or chanting we used to love you but now your a **** at Ben Hamer. I'm all for making the place tough for away teams, but when someone has done a job for us for several season they earn some kudos/respect.

Jonathan Douglas

Oh dear.....

Meaning? Your tweets all afternoon were from someone hoping we would fail. Just don't get it from someone clearly passionate about the club.

Jonathan Douglas

You lot are unreal, does no one appreciate how he has helped us the past 4 years!!

Yes and was paid very well for doing so now he plays for the opposition so time to move on and support our team Brentford

Jonathan Douglas

And we wonder when players have no loyalty to the club.

Jonathan Douglas

I accept the point that it was not good to give a standing ovation. Silence would have been fine and not disrespectful, whereas clapping at that point might have had a negative effect on our team. Different if we had been 2:0 up I suppose.

Jonathan Douglas

Any confirmation/footage of the Jota 'slap'??……

Jonathan Douglas

Was a bit OTT. Other ex players who id say acheived more havent even recieved similar reception. Jay Tabb for instance, I'd place him above Douglas. Barely got a reception last year.
I clapped for about 10secs and that was it for me for Douglas we move on. Support the new guys not the old.

Jonathan Douglas

This guy is a mercenary like most professional footballers.

Jonathan Douglas

And we wonder when players have no loyalty to the club.

Loyalty works both ways and clubs and players have no loyalty to each other. Fans are the only loyal consistent in football.

Jonathan Douglas

Having read through the trail of messages I feel I have to have a say. Firstly I've done my apprenticeship (supporter of 40 odd years) and can be a nasty c*** when I need to be in terms of slagging off other teams/players and getting behind my team during the game but I really can't believe that posters are outraged that a number of supporters choose to give Douglas applause on a number of occasions during the afternoon. I for one felt it was absolutely the right thing to do to let him go as we have, but only time will tell that and whilst we all know that players come and players go and most modern day footballers are mercenary it is my opinion that this guy deserved to know that I appreciated what he'd done in his time here. I've no doubt he was highly paid in his time with us, but in my opinion, and that's all it really is, he was part of the reason we're kicking off yesterday in the Championship "expecting" to be challenging this season. As such I felt he deserved recognition and for him to know that, a view that clearly a number of others shared. Does it make me any less of a real, passionate fan, I don't think so. Does it show weakness as supporter or group of supporters I don't think so. Perhaps we should be looking at the number of "fans" who slagged Andre Gray last season for missing chances and are now crying into their beer at the mere thought that he might head of for pastures new and a quick buck. We all support our team if different waysets not polarise each other for doing so but get behind what's going on here

Jonathan Douglas

Yep and we have some loyal fans at GP, I've woken up loving the finish to that game but still amazed at how welcoming and soft GP is, I spoke to 3 people in the game last night instead of the Samaritans and all of them laughed their balls off. GP is a fortress is a saying that MA had, it used to better when we made it uncomfortable for other teams, it's a bit like the game yesterday, the old guard starting the poor show off and the sheep followed.

Jonathan Douglas

2 nil down at home against a team that will be promotion rivals. Douglas comes on and ground previously quieter than Brighton beach in January erupts in rapturous applause. Can only come to the conclusion that that wonderful man Steve Bruce is correct in assuming we are mugs. The atmosphere in GP was buzzing yesterday thanks to the Ipswich mob. Anyway with any degree of perception should be able to read between the lines and realize that we got rid of Douglas cos he was a rotten apple. It makes no difference what he did for us before if he is disruptive. We have an owner with sufficient dignity not to get involved in slanging matches or criticism of ex players and other teams management and owners. Not once did respond to the comments and innuendos made by Warburton. We should be grateful and respect that. It does however require giving him the benefit of the doubt and I for one think that he deserves it.

As I always say... Opinions are what make this game the greatest sport in the World... I say it as I see it not as what I'm told to say.. From someone who has done the tour over 45 times with my club I can surely am 'allowed' an opinion. If I want to stand an applaud a player who got us to fifth in the Championship last season that is my prerogative. I now couldn't really care less for the blokes he wasn't one of my favourites either... As for my tweets? For an hour we were awful.
People should learn its 'nice to be nice'... All this slagging off people that a few weeks ago we were all crawling up their arses? No one did it to the Messiah Martin Allen and he wasn't whiter than white.. And before you start, I still adore what that guy did for our club and would stand and applaud him all day long should he return.
It's all about respect and dignity... Well from me it is in any case. And finally why would I be travelling to Burnley if I wanted us to fail? I do have a life!!! Not that I really have to justify myself to a dozen or so posters on here... Rant over. Have a great Sunday all... Fantastic point yesterday we are up and away!! COME ON YOU BEES

I say what I think too, I love MA too and have a decent rapport with him but would never clap him or anyone I used to like when my team are being spunked on, Clayton won't get the same sh*t next Tuesday, I would rather we sung "Where were you at Middlesbrough" to him but that's me, I wouldn't ever kiss a player's arse when he was here and never clap them from out of my seat when they've gone, saying that it was a great point and God Bless Mick for bringing him on as we were going to get done 4 nil when he made the bold move. I've never booed anyone that's left either, when they're gone, they're gone and when we're 2 down to them, they are part of the ***** that are ruining my day.

Maybe if we didnt give him a cheer he wouldnt of given us our corner we scored from? Everyones happy

Pity that when the Douglas deal was done , that we never asked for Jay Tabb in a swap deal.

Exactly , he had an Ipswich shirt on, nuff said

Well said that man. MB strikes me as a genuine gentleman and straight batter, maybe too nice for his own good sometimes. He even thanked JD on twitter for his service which perhaps sends out a message to some that he has no problem with Dougie.

One thing's for sure and that is that MB will not do his dirty washing in public, hence his vow of silence with regards to both Warbs and Dougie.

People need to sometimes look at the facts in front of them. Why was Douglas bombed out in the manner he was? How many players in the past have been bombed out by the club in that manner? Surely there's a reason for his treatment?

I don't think Dougie will be entering the BFC Hall of Fame anytime soon!!

Spoke to Tabby yesterday and he wasn't even in the squad.. Not injured either..

Jonathan Douglas

I contrast the ludicrous welcome given to Douglas to the way Craig was dealt with at the New Den last year. A real legend down there, he got nothing until the final whistle and was then applauded and my guess is he would have expected nothing else. I didn't mind the greeting whilst Douglas was warming up, but when he came one - just bonkers

.....i really wonder about why douglas is so important to some......either side of the fence......the happy clappy lets show appreciation for services rendered mob......and the vitriolic how dare you leave us and say bad things about us cause you were'nt all that anyway mob.......tell you what i think......this isnt about douglas.....this is about some of you lot on here being members of one gang or another.....its all very amusing......douglas has moved on.................. some of you lot dont know how to.......or dont want to.

Me & my boy gave JD a little clap...

The reason I don't agree is that had we been 3 up and he was coming on, I would have clapped him as the events of the day had put me in a happy mood where a bit of happy clap would have finished the day off nicely, yesterday was simply a dig to the team and owner as we were crap for 50 minutes and it was a way of giving it all a thumbs down.
