Have to disagree there mate, Williams' pace is an asset we cannot do without. Kev on the right wing....maybe in his younger days but can't see it now.

He played extremely well there against Yeovil though imo.

Kevin O'Connor

Fair do's I wasn't at that match. Whatever, I'd like to see Kev in the side in some capacity now.

Kevin O'Connor

Oconnor is just a plodder, and anyone that thinks he should be in the side hasn't a clue.

For starters he doesn't have the pace or skill to play right wing, and is awful as a centre midfielder cos he doesn't leave the centre circle and only contributes simple sideways passes.

Granted he is a pretty solid full back though i'll give him that and in desperate times he is versatile and can play most positions, but he isn't worthy of a place in the first team for me, the people on here who say play him instead of Bean are out of there mind, I agree Halls hasn't been the answer to the centre midfield but don't think he deserves the slating that he's been getting on here from the games i've seen him play at least the blokes a footballer who wants to try and play, yes in this division thats difficult but don't forget the bloke is a right back playing out of position.

I'm just glad Andy realises that the day's of Oconnor are over and we have better players right now.

Are you me?

Kevin O'Connor

Up until Tuesday we had conceded less goals than nearly everyone in every league so how is this something we need?

What we need is someone that gets forward and helps out the forward line and we just don't have that player

Kevin O'Connor

KOC does move slightly further than Pead but it's a close thing.
The Mous and Bean would have been ideal over the past few weeks. the Mous isn't fit to lace the boots of Halls but would have been a much better option.

Pead and KOC are not up to it and luckily Andy,Raybfc and I agree.;)

Ok you may well be right, but if that's the case, who is ? Because judging on performances, Halls certainly is not.

Kevin O'Connor

Kevin O'Connor's name would be my first on the team sheet. A really professional footballer, and an example to the young lads we have.

I can only assume that he has fallen out with Andy Scott. But after Tuesday night's disaster, patch up your differences and get him back in the team!

Kevin O'Connor

Really Carn't understand why people talk about KOC as if he is passed it. I have read on numerous occassions that "he has seen his day" or "passed his best" but the guy is still only 26...DOB 24/02/82 so by modern day standards he has not reached his peak yet and he has also captained the side and also played well over 300 games and scored some vital goals over the years.
Admitted he would never make the Premiership or even the Championship but never the less a good solid pro and would like to see him back in the side at some point as he is always likely to grab a goal or two.

Kevin O'Connor

But..... Bean is better, and you cannot play Kev and Bean together.
Dont get my wrong, i do really Kev. He deserves to be in the team

Kevin O'Connor

He may well be only 26 but plays more like he's 36.

Can anybody really justify why you would play him instead of anybody representing the first team currently?

Please tell me his value add to the team, I can't see anything other than playing him at right back and that's only if the 2 ahead of him are injured.

He might well be a good proffesional etc and good with young players but he's NOT good enough for our current first team IMHO

Kevin O'Connor

Kev should be in the team. He would help in midfield even if he doesn't go forward very often. After Tuesday nights showing the team need stability, which he would supply. Also as he has been out of the team for a while and he knows the fans want him(singing Tues night)he would have a bit (lot) more passion and maybe put himself about more on the pitch. :)

Kevin O'Connor

Bean has been one of out most vauble players this year.
His unnoitced work is what as given us most of our points.

Agreed it's all about experience.:sorted:

And all his harrying and ball chasing needs to be complimented by someone who can get their foot on the ball, find space, make a telling pass, shoot from distance with confidence.
Is KOC up to that?
I don't think we have an answer in the squad at the minute and Josh Wright was o.k. but nothing special.

I think joining the circus currently camped down our right side is KOC's best chance to get back in the side

Kevin O'Connor

Guess if there was a simple answer then Scott and Bullivant would have found it.

Bean first, have to say he would be one of the first names on the team sheet he does a great deal of work that goes unnoticed, no he is not the greatest or most skillful player the Bees have ever had but I can guarantee that if he was not doing the "dirty work" in midfield you would notice it and the results would be reflecting it.

Halls, has all the skills and abilities that you could possibly ask for however like many others there is something missing, whether it is commitment, effort or just an over inflated opinion of his abilities I dont know but in midfield he is not the answer. A shame cos with his abilities he should be able to run the show. RB? has shown a marked lack of interest in going in where the tackles are flying about and in this league if you dont get hurt you are likely to have missed the game!! Perhaps he is in this league on merit and other managers have realised there is something missing in his performance. Pead has been criticised for lack of effort and ability, Brooker villified for lack of effort but with ability......which category will Halls fit into??

Kevin; Hard working Proffessional not blessed with the greatest of skills or pace but tends to put in solid performances, not to be relied upon when the going gets tough but a useful enough player to have in the squad. With Elder suspended and Williams likely to play up top I would be happy to see him wide right, he can read the game and has a decent pass in him perhaps even allowing Newton to get ahead of him.

Pead: Still not sure what has happened to him, MOM at Wycombe and then vanished completely, I would be happy to see him return to midfield on Sat with Bean, he does pass the ball, he does make himself available, he is as likely as Halls to go into a 50/50 challenge and when he was previousley in the team in my opinion we played better football.

It is all about opinions and fairly consistantly AS and myself have disagreed!!! I expect nothing more this week!

Pead DID play at Luton. It was there he vanished completely. (apart from missing a pen)

Kevin O'Connor

If I was KOC I would be checking out the fastest journey to Cheltenham to join up with a Manager who appreciates me, and be playing at a higher level.

Kevin O'Connor

are you going to then?

i'll give you the fare.

Kevin O'Connor

What are you talking about?

Bean does nothing for me,his got no skill, cant score goals.cant head a ball, trips himself up, all because he runs around for 90 minutes does make him a good player.I still prefer koc

Apart from the headed goal he scored of course ;)

I think a lot of the negativity is down to one awful result. We are in a piss poor division but we are one of half a dozen teams that are capable of going up.

Our problem is consistency, we look great one week and then play hoof ball the next. The answer to our midfield problem is gary smith but nobody seems to know what is wrong with him or when we see him again, he has missed a lot of football it seems and will take time to get match fit.

As for KOC, he is a solid CM who IMO could have done a great job last 20 against shrewsbury when we needed to steady the ship, he does compete in there and we were out muscled by their thugs for most of the game. We were bossing the game for a while but we just needed to stand up a bit more at times. He should be involved IMO at some stage but AS does not use substitutes unless he has to, he needs to use this as a tactic not as security measure against injury.

Kevin O'Connor

I would play KOC any day of the week over Hall's in midfield, whilst Hall's is a better player, he is more suited to Championship football where you get more time on the ball. All of Hall's mistakes have come from taking to long and getting closed down quickly or trying to take on the whole team and giving the ball away. Whilst Kev is dfinately not the answer, he is used to lower league football and doesn't try the impossible!

Kevin O'Connor

I still think there is some room for sentiment and loyalty in football....despite the events of the last 20 years.....Kevin O'Connor is good enough to be in the squad and symbolises a lot more than just a league two bench player for the club.

Most people agree KOC should be in the team and i hope AS sees sense and starts him tomorrow!

Kev must play regularly. Any current Brentford team without Kev is the poorer for it. Play him in centre midfield and we won't be found wanting when it comes to commitment, intelligence and the battling qualities needed at this time of year. The more creative play will need to come from our wide players. Kev recycles the ball well enough and has ability in the air and in the tackle. Keep Kev in the team!

But he was found wanting and lost the midfield battle on Saturday

This is Kevin O"Connor you are talking about :nono::nono:the guy who has never played for anyone else in his 11 years as a pro footballer even though he has had the chance to move on. My feller asked him towards the end of last season if he would ever leave '' not unless they throw me out" he replied
and if Scott and Bullivant did that, then I would query their wisdom to say the very least

I agree it would be madness to get rid of him but he seems to be well down the pecking order and for a seasoned 26 year old he needs to be playing regularly.
What some people say about him on here is utter nonsense, it seems they expect him to come back into the team and play like Lampard, it's not realistic. He needs to get a place in the team on a regular basis and get back to the form he was in under Martin Allen.

Kevin O'Connor

He also in my opinion needs Gary Smith alongside him, i felt they complemented each other last year

Kevin O'Connor

imo a personately thing as and tb dont rate him koc, otherwise he would be playing ,strange though ma comes in for him with a paltry sum and its refused .Must make you wonder what koc is thinking ?????

Kevin O'Connor

Claire do you think he will get a game for us before then ?????

Kevin O'Connor

fans v fans game seems to be his best shot at a starting place.....

Kevin O'Connor

From what ive seen from the likes of Halls, Josh Wright, Bean and Pead KOC is more than worthy of a place in the side in place of or along side any of these

Kevin O'Connor

In his first game for ages against a very good side.
Read the post I'm replying to. It states that with Kevin playing we won't be found wanting, something about battling qualities required at this time of the year. Well we may not have noticed him but he was playing and we were outbattled in midfield by Jones and Toner.

I think the blokes a great clubman and I'd like to see him get a great turn out for his testimonial, but he isn't a player who will make the difference for us IMHO. He'll work hard, and he won't be outclassed ot embarrassed very often. Equally he won't dominate or change games, and if we really expect to win automatic promotion we need a midfield general capable of making things happen. Kevin never has and never will on his own, nor will two holding midfielders alongside each other every become an attacking force.

For me, we hope that Poole can find a killer ball to Charlie and we hope that Williams will find a decent cross to Elder once he gets past his man. We do not play the ball through the middle of park, we do not surge forward through the middle of the park, we do not spray long passes to the wings from the middle of the park, Nathan and Charlie do not have support close to them from the middle of the park and that for me is the biggest problem. If we can address we will be there or thereabouts, if we don't we may make the play offs but no better.

Does anyone remember the goal he scored against Norwich I think it was a cup game he played well that day.
