Think it is a bit of a storm in a teacup. Ok Suarez should have shook hands but equally Evra shouldn't have reacted and grabbed his hand and then turning straight to the camera's stating look at this - a bigger man would have ignored it. His reactions at the end was also petty.

Of course there is no place for racism at any levels but Suarez did his ban let's move on - the only people loving this is the media - the reaction to Bridge not shaking Terry's didn't have this reaction !

thank god i'm off to New York today for the next three months to get away from this .... !

Luis Suarez

Could we please just return to the topic in hand without having yet another thread taken over by this?? The thread is titled 'Luis Suarez' remember? And the significance of this story is that we are on a football forum and considering it in a football context. Though society and football overlap, it does not mean we have to compare the gravity of every single football incident with a f***ing illegal war in Iraq, or any other military action. Otherwise we'd never debate anything without considering 'yes well Lee was definitely fouled and it could cost us a place in the play-offs, but because of the increased military presence in Afghanistan I just can't concentrate on football right now'

This is how I'd sum it up. Suarez has admitted using a phrase that was considered racially offensive and rightly served a lengthy ban. Liverpool chose not to appeal the decision. Suarez then refused to shake Evra's hand in a gesture of deliberate disrespect. And what did Evra do wrong? He reported a fellow professional who had used a racial slur repeatedly against him. Though I can't stand Man Utd, the fact is they stood by their player and got a wrong righted. Liverpool have stood by Suarez and basically condoned his actions.

and for those who bang on about political correctness and hark back to some bygone shiny era when a 'joke' was taken in good humour, what you are describing is an era in football where black players were repeatedly abused not just by fans, but often by their own teammates and managers. If they were offended, who the f*** could they have complained to? The FA? Their own club? They often had no option but to put their heads down and get on with it, however hurtful and unfair the situation they found themselves in. I for one am glad that people are actually beginning to come forward in the confidence that if they report racism, something might actually be done about it. It might cause English football some temporary pain, but lets stamp this out once and for all, and make it clear that racial abuse will not be tolerated, and players who still use it will be driven out of the f***ing game like they deserve.
:imwith: excellent post.

I don't know if radical muslim cleric hate speech falls under the FA's jurisdiction though?

But players racially abusing others in the premier league does and in a 115-page report they explained pretty conclusively that Suarez had racially abused Evra. Ferdinand has a brother and a team mate who have both been victims of racial abuse this season. I hardly think taking a stance against racism is getting on a 'moral high horse', or 'snitching' (what moribee and tom the bee evidently think it is), and it's that kind of attitude that keeps people from wanting to address the issue when it raises its ugly head.

Ferdinand didn't need to get involved, but he did and turned an issue between two players into a bigger comedy than it already is. If Suarez was that much of a racist, would he have offered Ferdinand his hand? I don't think so.

Luis Suarez

Ferdinand was sticking up for his mate and team mate and did the right thing in my opinion and the whole Man Utd team should have avoided his hand but I presume they didn't see what happened.Suarez may not be a racist but he is clearly deluded if he still doesn't grasp what he did was wrong in the first place.

Luis Suarez

Do you know something....Evra is more than capable of fighting his own battles and he is French I believe. Wish all this hot air could be expended on those who need help, human or otherwise. Feel sad that so many of my fellow support are so color prejudice.

I thought Evras celebrations made himself look an even bigger C*** to be honest. That said more about it all to me. Dont agree with Suarez's initial comments in the slightest but it's his right to chose who she shakes hands with, hwever perrt it makes him seem. When has Evra ever ceebrated like that? He seemed to be treating it all as a "personal victory".

Doesnt that defeat the whole issue in the first place?

Luis Suarez

I've seen the footage about a dozen times already, despite spending most of the past 24 hours either asleep or at work.

I noticed a couple of things. Firstly, Suarez is a ****. Secondly, though Evra offered his hand I got the distinct impression he didn't really want the handshake. Suarez being a **** was a result for Evra.

Luis Suarez

The person who has come out of the whole 3 month affair worst, and who has seriously sullied his reputation is Kenny Dalglish

Luis Suarez

Yes,he has stumbled thru interviews. Regardless of what stance he has taken his words seen ill prepared. If seems to have strong views but no idea how to articulate them without losing credence. At times it seems this brashNess is transferring itself to the team, tho in truth I can't remember what if used to be like

:imwith:

I used to have a lot of respect for Dalglish both as a player and in his earlier managerial days but since his return he seems to have become the biggest arse in football management and that is a hard task considering he has the likes of Fergie, Arsey Whinger and Mourinho as competition.

His bullying technique at interviews is symptomatic of the man. About time some of these reporters stood up to him a bit more and started showing his interview petulance. If he says "what kind of question is that" how about "its a question the viewers want an answer to Mr Dalglish, are you going to answer it". If he walks out , show it and let everyone see what a prat he is.

Suarez is young and very naive and needs more and better guidance from the likes of Dalglish. Suarez has let himself down but he has also been let down by his club.

PS...... I also think Evra is a very dislikeable character so they deserve each other.

Luis Suarez

I do every day in my work!

That is good and as years go by you will reap the benefits tin always remember some people you meet will have different views on things, that how we learn in life, and hopefully you can embrace differences without agreeing with them or name calling.

Luis Suarez

Yep and some of these will repeat them and repeat them and repeat them until they are sure they have finally rammed their differing opinions down your throat.

If the cap fits...................

Luis Suarez

Another step closer to the death of the premiership - what a sorry state of affairs. All this crap, arrogant overpaid players and most of the clubs sold off to foreign sugar daddies.

RIP

Luis Suarez said:
I have spoken with the Manager since the game at Old Trafford and I realise I got things wrong. I've not only let him down, but also the Club and what it stands for and I'm sorry. I made a mistake and I regret what happened. I should have shaken Patrice Evra's hand before the game and I want to apologise for my actions. I would like to put this whole issue behind me and concentrate on playing football.
Someone has had a word with him!

Luis Suarez

From a footballing point of view, Suarez is a quality player (when not diving around) as for this recent episode, he's a fool and made things a lot worse, hopefully his recent statement, as shown above, will finally put this all to rest. Plus the GPG can get back to having a pop at BFC's recent poor show in not getting the games on at GP :zzzzz:

Luis Suarez

So Fergie wants someone banned for life for not shaking hands but picks someone with an assault charge against a fan...a fella who forgot to attend a drugs test...

Luis Suarez

Suarez is a total disgrace in my opinion and I never thought much of Liverpool anyway and less so now. Well done to Rio for reacting so quickly and well.

The same Rio who went missing on a drugs test and was instrumental in the England players attempting to strike...

Didn't apologise to Evra though.

Quite surprised he continued the mind games after his side had won, I thought he'd want to focus on their win and put the pressue on Man City. It seems he just can resist having a dig at Liverpool

Luis Suarez

Suarez doesnt like Evra - he got him banned for 8 matches. He would have been a hypocrite to shake his hand.

BTW it was no secret around Altrincham about Roy Keane's dislike of people with skin darker than his own - his opinions/actions never seemed to bother Ferguson in those days...anyone can jump on and off the racism bandwagon when it suits them I suppose, in a free country

Fergie always kept quiet when his goalie was accused of using racist words towards Ian Wright...

Luis Suarez

I assume everyone has seen the hotel tape with Evra using those naughty words? Can't get my head around that.

Luis Suarez

Didn't apologise to Evra though.
Sounds like an apology to me: "I should have shaken Patrice Evra's hand before the game and I want to apologise for my actions."

and what about all those starving children in Africa?

Suarez is a tit for not shaking hands and therefore drawing a line under the whole sorry affair.

More guff for premier league supporters/viewers and the press to get their knickers in a twist about.

Worse was his silence after Keane's tackle on Håland which led to the end of his career and was GBH by any other name. Why Keane wasn't given a much longer ban after that always bemused me.

it's an apology to Dalglish and the club, not directly to Evra.

Ferdinand didn't need to get involved, but he did and turned an issue between two players into a bigger comedy than it already is.

Ferdinand is one of the all time kings of remonstrating to the referee, usually pointing at the player and going "oi, ref, ****'s sake". That guy will run the length of the pitch to give the ref earache, whether he was involved in an incident or not.

Luis Suarez

Ultimately Ferdinand wouldn't get properly involved as he is a chicken. He's normally 2nd or 3rd in line for any aggravation. Never first.

Best description I ever heard of Rio was 'He is the ultimate 'hold-me-back' merchant'.

Back in the day he got proper lairy in a late night McD's. Jumped the queue and talked down to folk. Two minutes later he was nursing a few bruises and his entourage were apologising. He missed the next WHU Game (pretty sure) lol

Where does it say that? It seems very pedantic to read into a simple sentence one thing or another. He's apologised - not doubt after a b***ocking by the club. He's a ****, Evra's a ****, Dalglish is a ****, Sralex is a ****. The chattering classes need to move onto something else, something important, like Police corruption.

We'd need a new message board to deal with that ..

Agree it's pedantic and I couldn't really care less, but the media will be looking for any excuse to continue this story.

Luis Suarez

Hasn't apologised for abusing Evra though has he?

Luis Suarez

Missed umpteen chances. Totally screwed up about 15 promising moves. Needs to be replaced if they are going to do anything. Obviously has some ability but so over rated it's not true IMHO

Luis Suarez

Has to be the most over rated player Ive seen for a long time.

Agree, runs well off the ball and gets lots of passes but his ratio of passing/scoring/ball control is very poor

Luis Suarez

He is very irritating - always complaining about something or other.

Luis Suarez

Well he is their main strike force now it seems. If I were a Liverpool fan I might be tad worried for this season.
