Luis Suarez

why is his colour an insult, who says it is an insult or is he ashamed of being a black man

Times have changed and what may have been commonplace and even acceptable 40 years ago isn't anymore. An 80 year old Brit without access to Internet, TV, Radio, newspapers, a phone and any adult interaction may be forgiven for using the word negro, Suarez cannot. You've adopted our culture in order to earn money to escape yours so no excuses accepted.

By the same token Terry should get a lot longer ban and hopefully dropped by all his sponsors and sacked but it won't happen.

why?

Luis Suarez

Because he has committed a far greater offence with no mitigating circumstances whatsoever in my opinion and is lying by saying he didn't say it.............

You "f*****g black c***" captured live on TV cameras broadcast to millions and millions worldwide, uttered by the Club and National captain who is also an ambassador for "Kick Racism out of Football" and a role model! You think it's worth the same as Suarez' crime that he at least admitted albeit trying to hide behind mitigating circumstances.

If although I think it's when JT gets off or a light slap on the wrists it will in effect allow racist abuse to re appear on the terraces and on every park pitch in UK.

Luis Suarez

Everyone is racist, its an instinct which must be harnessed in positive and pro active theory

racist or not, you don't go round saying it to someones face.. I guess you think it's ok to do that then?

Luis Suarez

This is the first time Evra has accused someone of this in the Premier League. The other times it was his team-mates who made the accusations as well as a deaf fan who lip-read what a player was saying to him.

wasnt it Evra who had it with the Chelsea groundsman, saying then he was racially insulted ?

isnt that racist saying Suarez should adopt to our culture to earn money and escape his,in this very very pc world we now find ourselves in !!!

on a serious note, has it been made public what Suarez and Terry actually said ?

why shouldnt players be put up in court, banned from football and possibly jailed for racism just like a fan would ?

I said he cannot use his culture as an excuse when he is in our country having adopted our culture.
I read the Sun last month where the centre pages were Suarez terrible upbringing in the slums of Uruguay. About having to fight for food, how many of his childhood mates
were dead or in jail and how football had given him a life he dreamt about. Where am I being racist?

I agree about footballers receiving the same punishments as Joe Public. If anything as Terry is a hypocrite, a liar and a role model I honestly think he should be heavily punished.
I'd be instantly dismissed from my job regardless of how much money I generate for the business and regardless of whether I ended up in court. Do you think Chelsea will sack Terry if he is proven guilty, I say proven because we know he is guilty

yep.....and Terry will get away with it,i dont know why he so untouchable,to constatly be in the wrong and so arrogant and brazen with it

i dont care where Saurez comes from, hes been in civilised cultures long enough to know.
I was winding up about your quote as to who/what he is and whersv hes from because the pc brigade have caused such problems in this country now by going too far the other way

Luis Suarez

the whole of the Liverpool squad tonight warmed up with Suarez shirts on, wont do the campaign much good if the appeal comes to nothing

if it is an issue of thr highest and he is found guilty, which he has been, then Liverpool should be punished too

but its ok,theyll just throw more racism banners in our faces

that's just an amazing statement and lack of understanding of the situation

Suarez is saying something to Evra. could be anything, he can call him a ****, a ball-licker, a fnurgle-durgle, whatever word he wants. Suarez is calling Evra names, and we've all been in those situations, we probably all do it on the terraces, "**** you Crouch you lanky ****" or whatever else

any of that is fine. except colour. don't bring colour into it. point being, you can't change your colour.

you say "who says it is an insult?" - you think he's just saying "hey black man, how are you? nice weather isn't it? maybe me and you can meet up for a beer later" ?!?! it's not meant in a pleasant manner. it's in the context of "**** you, you're my opponent, so **** off" - which is fine and acceptable - as long as it's not "**** you black man, you're my opponent, **** off"

Luis Suarez

Apparently Evra said to him 'you're just a South American'

Also apparently Suarez has a black grandfather

Luis Suarez

Did anyone watch MOTD? Talking about Suarez Alan Hansen referred to 'coloured players' twice, the look on Lee Dixons face was priceless. You could almost hear the producer screaming 'NOOOOOO!!!'

Now, Hansen is no racist but that is such an outdated and mostly stupid term to use, especially when everyone is on a hair trigger as it is. I feel a sh*tstorm is brewing tonight.

Luis Suarez

Suarez has form for all sorts of horrible things including spitting and biting. He's most likely guilty of this specific offence although the evidence would not stand up in a court of law, especialy since three years ago this month, Patrice Evra was damned by an FA regulatory commission for supplying “exaggerated and unreliable” evidence following allegations of racism during the infamous ‘Battle of the Bridge’ with Chelsea ground staff in April 2008. Look at Evra's performance in the French debacle at the last world cup!! Their both horrible sh*ts and deserve each other

Ah the old no smoke without fire line. He was not bring charged with what he was like as a person or if he's 'probably' guilty. It's got to be based on evidence alone, which in this case looks less than watertight

Luis Suarez

why is his colour an insult, who says it is an insult or is he ashamed of being a black man

Alan Minter made the mistake of saying something on the lines of no black #### gonna take my title prior to his fight with Marvin Hagler. That would be ok in your book but Mr Hagler took offence and ripped Minter to bits.It offends and thats that.

Luis Suarez

Evra is French. Surely nothing else needs to be said. Bring back fighting the cheese eating surrender monkeys

I think Hansen knew it as soon as he said it but just dug a deeper hole.

Luis Suarez

can you not say that these days? what about half cast?

i didn't realise (until too late!) that half-cast is "unacceptable" these days. one of the guys I regularly went to Brentford with is mixed-race Pakistani-English. not half-cast!

Luis Suarez

Crouch cant change being lanky:fishing:

:D that's where it is a bit strange to me. but c'est la vie - it's generally accepted these days that if you're being mean/nasty/lary with someone, bringing colour into it is "below the belt". anyone who doesn't know that is being a bit naive...

Luis Suarez

I think the term was 'half-caste' with an e, implying that someone who was only half that was of lesser value. Even 'mixed race' is out for some of the most PC - 'dual heritage' (or multiple if more than 2) was the last I was taught - but 'mixed race' wouldn't generally be considered offensive

Luis Suarez

Nah, most people living in the 21st century realise that 'coloured' hasn't been acceptable since about 1980, and half-caste is generally being replaced recently with the more positive term 'mixed race'.

The funniest thing was that MOTD was trying to be serious and delicate with the subject, and Hansen just kept putting his out-of-touch foot in it over and over again. It was a cringeworthy watch as you could see Lee Dixon became visibly uncomfortable.

poor innocent me, i always thought it just meant a half-and-half person, i.e. mixed race. fortunately i didn't really go round saying it often!!

I think that most would consider it dated rather than deliberately offensive, probably on a par with 'coloured'. If you think that race is a sensitive area in terms of language, disability can be even more complex as neutral terms acquire negative undertones and then get dropped

Luis Suarez

Native Americans were always good for a bit of genocide so American Americans were invented

The mean/nasty/lary black **** who held a gun to my head while trying to mug me was and still is a black ****.

Not all black people are ***** nor are all ***** black. This **** was and I told him so before running away.

Of course, had he been white, you would have called him a white ****?

Luis Suarez

You can say something to get Zidane sent off in a World Cup final and nothing happens to you.

Allegedly say something deemed racist - according to Evra who has a known history of playing the racism card - and they throw the book at you.

Unless it comes to a punch up, they should let them say whatever they want to one another. Investigating this sort of stuff is how we ended up with pointless, expensive quangos and Trevor Phillips.

Luis Suarez

No.I am not saying it's great behaviour on my part and I was scared sh*tless and I still have nightmares about the incident. That 15 seconds of madness still haunts me at moments of weakness.the impact of what I called him will I reckon hurt him less than how he impacted my life. It's not a perfect world and I congratulate all efforts to improve our tolerance of each other. Political correctness is not the answer for it only seeks to divide and cause judgement imo.

Well, for a start the myth that Evra played the 'race card' has been well and truly debunked if you care to read the rest of this thread.

And the rest of your post is so idiotic it doesn't merit a response.

Does it actually hurt your knuckles as you drag them on the floor when walking? You sound like a dinosaur, what's on your dvd box set wish list for Christmas "Love thy Neighbour" and "Roots" that you'll no doubt watch backwards so it has a happy ending!

So you are a fekkin expert on South American Spanish are you?
http://www.belfasttelegraph.co.uk/s...-negrito-isnt-an-offensive-term-16082510.html

Sod the FA.

Just pay a school dinner lady to attend each match. When this sort of thing happens she can tell them to 'Play Nicely.'

It would be a lot cheaper.

I understand that it is easy for stuff like that to slip out in such a horrible moment for you. But of course that doesn't extend to John Terry or Luis Suarez being a little riled up during what is ostensibly a game played for fun.

Regarding political correctness, Stewart Lee does a good piece on the subject which pretty much sums up how I feel. 'It is an often clumsy negotiation towards a formally inclusive language. There may be problems with it but its better than what we had before.'

I'm pretty sure the match was played in England though, not Uruguay? And it wasn't said affectionately amongst team mates, it was said between rivals.

I dont care if nig-nog and paki or whatever other racial words are 'affectionate and acceptable' in south america, they aren't acceptable here. End of story.

Luis Suarez

so we are all equal but when you insult a black person they are more equal than the rest?

Who to believe :-

1) an intelligent, well-regarded former player and manager from Uruguary

or

2) a random gobshite on a football forum?

Decisions, decisions.

you (and Poyet) are really missing the point on this one. it might not be an offensive term, but here it's "sensitive" and certainly not said in a friendly manner

if you have an example of a black player racially abusing a white player and not getting the book thrown at him, go ahead. otherwise, your point is just idle speculation...
