Luton protest

Good grief.

Having read through this dispiriting lot I found myself going back to check the league table, just to confirm that we'd actually got something to be cheerful about on Saturday.

I'm not sure what's more depressing. The remote chance that supporters of the away team might try and disrupt proceedings on Saturday, or the thought of spending the afternoon listening to our own intelligentsia putting more effort into goading the visitors than celebrating our own achievements.

I despair.

TBH, I'm not actually on one side or the other, I don't really know enough about it, and although I accept what your saying, it wasn't really what I was arguing about. I was arguing about whether Greg should be condemned for coming out with the statement, and how Andy came out with the same thng yet he wasn't abused for it.

Who cares about what Luton fans do or want to do? Evidently they have sold only half of their allocation. We are champions and should celebrate the fact, that's it.

Don't be downhearted, we have loads to celebrate and we will!
Saturday will be a festival of triumph, gratitude, gloating, joy and laughter.
I think that people are so pumped up by what has happened this week that they don't want luton to distract from the attention we rightfully deserve.

Clearly the club have shut the shop on police advice, all pubs near the ground will shut on police advice and Greg and Andy have had to make a statement on police advice. You'd have thought the MET had won something, not us:(

Surely the pubs can re-open after 6ish as I would have thought most of LTFC's fans would have made their way home anyway.......

I heard from a staff member from one of the pubs by the ground that it has been proposed that the pubs close at 2.15 to get everyone in the ground on time and open from 6 depending on police advice.

Party at the offy on Ealing Road anyone?

I would suggest fans stay in the ground and use the Hive if possible or we'll probably have to walk to the *** or *** or ****.

Before a game that has the potential to be very hostile and could be prone to some sort of protest the MD and the Manager, recognising the plight of the opposition as being one very similar to that of ours in recent years, decide to issue a calming and supporting gesture toward the opposition.

Anyone who criticises the club on this aspect is a moron. Sorry, but its true. If anybody thinks this is not an intelligent and well thought out move to attempt to diffuse a potentially unpleasant situation you are lacking in the relevant grey matter yourself.

As for whether or not piss taking should ensue against the Luton fans is one of personal choice. This time last year we thought we were on the way to the blue sq thanks to Ron Toades, how would we have felt if we were offered no support from our fellow small clubs supporters and were ridiculed? Should Luton be offered financial support from other clubs?, absolutely fkin not, as mentioned before they enjoyed the success we have failed to enjoy built on fraud. Dont forget we won the 4th division under Noades and got to 1 cup final and 1 play off under Noades so are we that much worse than luton in buying success with money we didn't have? Do I expect us to receive help from other clubs, absolutely not.

Do I expect us to respect the decent fans that have suffered? absolutely yes. We are all victims of the premiership greed and the death of football by a thousand cuts.

I fully expect a percentage of our fans to lay into Luton because if they are more concerned at singing pathetic 20 year old, way past the sell by date songs at teams like morecombe rather than support their own team then it is inevitable.

I just hope the gloating and two finger solutes dont come back to haunt us one day, we are far from out of the brown stuff financially.

For the last time, that is NOT what I am arguing about. A reason to do something is NOT because everybody else does it, or doesn't do as the case may be.

I have a problem with the fact that

a) Both Greg Dyke and Andy Scott made similar statements, with only Greg Dyke getting abused.

b) The abuse - they were possibly advised to do so by the police, and who can blame them. They are doing it to prevent potential harm to the fans, local pub owners etc. and they are doing their best to try and diffuse a potentially terrible situation.

It sounds to me that you are quite up for a fight with the Luton fans? Why else would you not want the club to release these statements?

I think it is a sensible piece of diplomacy which may well have toned down what could be a difficult day in terms of potential trouble, we have immediately struck a bit of the high moral ground by sympathising with them.

This is a high profile game given the circumstances and the last thing we want is crowd trouble which lands the club in hot water with the League/ FA...Luton simply aren't worth it.

A club, at the end of the day, is its fans! Players, Managers, Boards etc come and go. I feel sorry for the Luton FANS and the predicament they now face with being non-league.

They have been punished for the sins of former staff and hopefully they'll survive and return to the football league some day. They've had their ill-gotten glory and now its time for the pain.

I expect they have a small mindless minority that will take the opportunity to cause a problem whilst the majority look for non-violent protest.

There not that different from us.

I won't be abusing them on Saturday (too much) - I'll be there for the Champions!

Brickies...Harford is likely to be extremely complimentary to the Bees in his pre-match press conference. Why would he do it beforehand? Owen is also a very decent chap who is always pleasant about other clubs. They're good people.

Scott and Dyke have spoken early, that's the only difference. They're good people too.

What exactly IS the problem?

I understand that Luton, as the holders, are being allowed to enter the "Paint Pot" trophy next year. That being the case, there's every chance we will play them in the first round in September :eek:

I am sick and tired of hearing about Luton and their pathetic tales of woe. We are champions and are having to worry about that lot playing up. They wouldnt give two sh*ts if the roles were reversed. They abused the rules, they got punished. Tough luck. Should have played it straight from the off like the majority of clubs do, no points deduction :rolleyes:

Be that as it may, the facts are:

1) Luton have a reputation for having some violent fans
2) There is a chance that, as its their last game in the FL, that same section of fans might cause some damage to OUR stadium(incl. pubs etc) or to OUR people.
3) We don't really want that to happen.

Whenever we play Luton they is a pretty good chance some of our supporters will get attacked. They have form for it.

No, because that would be an inconvenience to us. This way, no one gets upset, apart from a few, who can hopefully be explained why it is neccessary.
