Thankfully he never really had a baron spell for us but I imagine he would of been extremely frustrating to watch if he had. Imagine his sulking antics and standing there shrugging his shoulders when he didn't get played through if he wasn't scoring goals and missing chances. I would imagine the reaction would be similar to the stick vibe is getting at the moment

I can't see their foreign owners going for Dean Smith, they always want a 'name' manager or someone not from the UK, fat lot of good it does them.

Liked the bit about DS could bring the rest of Hogan with him!!!

They reckon DS would be the one to get the best out of Hogan. You could be the best manager in the history of best managers but you still won't get anything out of a player that seems to be injured regularly

See that's the thing. When BFC signed SH, the club had done its homework thoroughly and knew what it was getting. So that by the time he was finally fit and ready, the team was set up to play to his strengths. (By the same token, when he left in January and the club had no like-for-like replacement lined up, we changed the set-up to play to Vibe's strengths i.e. Canos and Jota etc).

And now we've signed Ollie W, who's more like Hogan or Grey, for instance, and less like Vibe, you can be sure the club will get the best out of him.

Whereas Bruce only joined Villa in October (i.e. after the summer window) and then signed Hogan at the very end of the January window, implying a panic buy, rather than a considered one.

And they wonder why he's not fitting in...

Stop Press......It's no secret that for the last 5 years Villa has been a complete "shambles" and things can only get better if the owners realise a big name doesn't guarantee a fallen giant instant success.

Bruce said at the time he signed Hogan this Jan that he was interested in him while at Hull City and regretted not signing him then. What you have at the moment up there, and this can be attributed to Sunderland too, in that they have a losing mentality and it's spread throughout the club. It takes a long time to get that negativity removed, and over-paid players off the roster.

They reminded me quite a bit of the Bees so far this season, playing some decent stuff but struggling to score lately, and yet Parish has decided to ditch their manager after only 4 games. A ludicrous decision IMO, but I suppose that the Premier League, especially, is all about results. I'm just glad they MB is in charge here.

It's better to keep getting the continuous premier league money then the parachute payments , although they are a very nice consolation prize for failing in the EPL. Especially with the premier league TV deals increasing seemingly year on year. These quick fire sackings are going to become more frequent with such money on the line

Imo it is, since there are so many Championship teams who also have parachute payments that it's becoming an increasingly difficult challenge to get back up before the parachute money comes to an end.

It's the corollary(?) of people who think that if we just got promotion to the Prem, the TV money would solve all our problems - as if the other teams weren't also receiving the TV money (usually more of it), plus all their other (non-TV) revenues which BFC can't match either.

Absolutely, so I'd bite your hand off for it for that reason alone.

It's just that some people seem to think that it's merely enough to reach The Promised Land, without a thought as to how we might stay there.

And no matter how hard it will be to get there, the way things are going I think it will be MUCH harder to stay there - for a club like Brentford, at least.

Luck is indeed an important element a successful manager requires.
The Palace chairman/board will have looked at their first four opponents and noted that three of them are sides they should be looking to finish above and yet they have come away with null points.
Just about any Premiership club is going to be bricking it at the prospect of getting relegated, such is the financial gulf between it and the Championship, never mind the parachute payments, it's the risk of not getting back up again. So, de Boer should have known that he's going straight into a pressured job. Contrast with Wagner who signed on with Huddersfield. If de Boer wants to be a successful manager, as opposed to a clever coach, he should step down a level. He has clear ideas about how he wants his players to play, which will take more than four games for them to adapt to.
I hope Palace fans dies of boredom watching Hodgson's safe football.

Except for one crucial difference: when we sacked Marinus, Mr. Benham came out and publicly accepted he/the club had got it wrong in appointing him in the first place.

Actually, there's a second difference: we had a ready-made stop-gap to replace him in Lee Carsley, whose suitability we already knew. In fact, he'd have got the job permanently, had he wanted.

Oh and a third one: when we sacked MD, we didn't tear up the management model the club had been working towards, and appoint an old school manager, with old school experience, who could only ever be expected to work very differently from De Boer.

But apart from that...
