I think it's a brave move but if it works out he could fast track himself a move to a Premier League side that isn't on the cards now.
Things can only get better and reckon Sunderland have enough decent individuals in the squad, just don't look like a team at the moment.

It's a strange move. Ultimately he failed in this campaign. They should have qualified but future looks promising for Wales. A good crop of young players coming through and the likes of Bale and Ramsey in their prime. Not sure his club record is good enough for me to worry about Sunderland improving greatly.

Imo Bale is passed his prime...a constant stream of injuries.....he's missed 91 games through injury at real Madrid. ..

As for Coleman surely he can keep them up I didn't think they were that bad at gp

Good for Coleman's bank balance but bad for his career. Was revered in Wales, but has never made a good club manager and he won't start now in my opinion. I can understand him wanting another try at day to day management, though.

Very risky move for Coleman, not sure any manager can save that club and certainly not sure Coleman is capable of saving them.

Easy to look good with Bale in your side.

Coleman's success at Fulham was based on a core set of quality players who once moved on, shone the torch of reality on to Coleman.

Much like Martin O'Neil who looked terrific as manager of the Celtic team that included Henrik Larsson.

Coleman to Sunderland is good news for us...I hope.

Agreed, Wales makes sense IMO. There will be a few Prem teams this season who wouldn't have minded having him though once danger becomes a real reality. The problem is two of them have already acted...

International team appointments suggested by the UK media often seem to be guided by the 'yeah, give him a chance' principle. If any club picked their managers that way they'd be chastised for it. Yet we hear of loads of suggestions based on 'he was a good player, he could represent us' without considering their managerial record at all.

I heard several calls of 'give Shearer the England job' last summer...it would be nonsensical. Giggs is being linked just for that reason, he doesn't deserve it, but I wouldn't be overly surprised if he got it.

Rob Page has been doing a decent job for Wales U21 and will know the players likely to start replacing the old guard. Could be a good outside bet.

I might tend to agree with you if they were mid table but they aren't and there is an awful lot of firefighting required there which I don't think DS is the man for

Hard to see who WBA would bring in actually...a lot of jobs have some immediate obvious choices but it's hard to tell with WBA. They can't go the 'hard to beat and keep you just up' route as they just got rid of one of the best candidates at that. Their new owners may look more ambitiously in their choice but it's hard to marry their style to the more passing style they could find more attractive. They have an ageing squad used to playing a very direct way.

Dean Smith is 25/1 btw, although fairly far down the list.
