Pellegrini took Villarreal to the Champions league semi-final on a tiny budget. He took Malaga to the Champions league quarter final. He won the Premier league with City, until he got found out lol. Ask City, Malaga, Villarreal fans what they think of Pellegrini. West Ham will love him, excellent appointment, for a change!

A very odd situation. He has effectively been working out 2 years notice since he resigned in 2016 but the club wouldn't pay him off. He won't now sign a new contract.

Just the sad state the game is in at the moment, that a manager/coach that has been in the job three years can, currently be the 18th longest serving manager in England.

I think that the world of work in general is far less stable then it ever has been.

I generally seem to interview people who seem to have a shelf life in previous jobs of 18 months to 2 years.

It used to be that if you were booted out after less than two years, you weren't entitled to compensation. Might have changed, but if not, could explain it.

My last two jobs have lasted 20 years and 13 years respectively (well places of employment, rather than jobs). Doesn't seem to count for much though, on the evidence of recent interviews. :sad:

In normal everyday work that is still the case. It did get reduced to 12 months but the Conservatives increased it back up to 2 years.

I reckon you can suss people out much quicker than that. Usually in the first three months. On the other hand, after two years people can get comfortable in the existing job and the most ambitious are looking to move onwards and upwards.

Many years ago when we got a new boss, one of the guys said that the new guy would last 3 years, year 1 blames the previous person, year 2 formulation and implementation of new plans, year 3 plan not working so leaves or sacked

Mine are 19 years, and ten and counting, so I’m either bang average at my job, never at risk of being head hunted or sacked, or I have a chronic lack of ambition!

Did a good job at Sporting, but was sacked for not wearing the club suit(!) at a function.
Did well with the "Greek Celtic", Olympiakos, but walked out for "personal reasons".
Failed to keep Hull in the Prem, and resigned.
Started well at Watford, before it began to go wrong and he was sacked after 8 months, amid rumours that he was sniffing after another Prem job, probably (ahem) Everton.
Still only 40!

Everton must be hoping his wife has finally got fed up with packing and unpacking....

Can't help thinking this could be a bad move by Lampard. At this time Derby will be in retrenchment as they enter the "bust" period of the typical "boom or bust" strategy of many Championship sides. His said he was attracted to them because they have are a "big" club with a "big" fanbase and a "big" history, all very well but that comes with "big" expectations and for a rookie manager and assistant that makes it much, much harder particularly as they may not be able to sign the sort of players he might want.

He appears to have been talking to the club for a while after pulling out of the Ipswich job.Would have thought one of the first questions would be “what’s the budget”Don’t think he would take the job without a decent one.I wouldn’t have thought he’s desperate for this job for money as he’s a multi millionaire and these jobs come up regularly these days.He obviously wants to manage and his first job could be his last if he fails so I expect him to be very cautious on the terms he agrees to sign up to hence it is taking a while to get this over the line.

He'll have his influences, inevitably, but I think he'll be his own man with his own style. Has impressed me as a pundit. I know it's a completely different game, but he has an aura and a gravitas about him. Coupled with his steely determination and his network of contacts at Chelsea and City most notably, I think he could do very well.

He could certainly talk the talk...very articulate and probably a decent guy. But that doesn't mean too much....if they're struggling the fans won't stick with him for those reasons.

It may work, but with budget cuts they may be less likely to make a push, while the fans will still expect it. I personally don't think he'll last the season...

Yes definitely has something about him and his determination is undeniable. Lampard said he stayed hours after training every day practising free kicks and crosses.

However I can’t see him pitching his own style to Mel Morris and then given his first managerial job. Morris is intelligent, ruthless.. and pretty sure models would’ve been discussed, it’s normal unless the track record is unquestionable.
