Flekken, Noppert and Bijlow sound a right trio! (Loss adjusters? Solar panel installers? Undertakers?)
Characters in a Dutch childrens show;

"Loohk, here koms Flekken, hesh forgotten hiz vater bottle again"

Who will be in goal against spuds if Raya has not gone by then?

Brentford signing Mark Flekken has revealed the club have promised him he will be their number one goalkeeper next season, even though David Raya is yet to depart.

Flekken has been speaking to De Limburger about his move to Brentford, which is set to be finalised on July 1st after being completed earlier this month.
Flekken is joining from Bundesliga side Freiburg in a €13m deal, with Brentford moving to secure him early as they plan their squad for next season.
The move will be completed in July, although the newspaper says Flekken ‘still has to get his work permit’ before joining up with Thomas Frank’s side on July 11th.

Comes across as a very strong character. Got to wonder how Raya is feeling ?

I know it's only training clips, but some of those 1 on 1 stops ? ...man looks sharp!

Mark Flekken (Closed Thread)

Well he can certainly talk the talk. Hopefully he can also do the other bit. Have high hopes for him.

Looked good with his feet. Not a lot he could do about the first goal, second was tricky too, didn't really come for crosses which was as surprise, though I don't think Fulham had that many?

Me too, I was hoping his extra height would give us an advantage in that area.

Early doors. But his footwork is excellant. But dear me as a keeper his positional sense is all over the place. Can't entirely blame the Brighton goal on him but he was caught out of position several times. Watching Steele at the other end is what I thought we were signing.

Totally agree

1. First few games
2. Not playing with the first back four
3. Great feet and can pick a pass.

However, he hasnt looked very assured or confident in the last two games, in my opinion. Plenty of time and that will come together.
Just think how Andre Onana feels. ETH will be thinking he’s signed the wrong keeper now.

His positioning is due to a high press all round, so will be slightly walkabout behind. We need to review slightly as getting caught with longer ball over the top. His footwork is excellent and his communication with defence will improve, plus he’ll get a more consistent line up in front of him. Not concerned

Steele's passing out was shocking list count how many times he gave it away.

I am actually fine if Flekken merely has an 'OK' season. I think it often takes keepers from a new league a season or more to get used to English football and the way we play. I've seen enough in his natural ability and pedigree to know that he'll only get better in a Bees shirt.

I think his pedigree has been purchased for better than an "ok" season from the off ?

This. Exactly.

First goal certainly not entirely his fault, but he reacted to the situation poorly imv. He should have recognised early that this wasn't his ball to sweep. As soon as he realised this, he should have retreated pronto to his line. Instead, he effectively presented the striker with an open goal.

Sounds a bit like Raya at first ... couldn't believe we'd replaced Bentley with him for a while. felt pretty stupid later on

We cannot afford to settle for just OK from any of our main players and certainly not from our keeper.
He’s not covered himself in glory in these two games but they are unimportant. I’m sure that PG and TF were more than confident that he was the right replacement for Raya. This “ tournament “ is weird, huge stadiums less than a tenth full, no atmosphere, and I suspect no reflection of where a team actually is in terms of preparation for the PL kick off.

Mark Flekken (Closed Thread)

Noticeable how much more comfortable he was on the ball compared to Strakosha. Much longer kick than Raya as well and he still manages to get back spin on it.

Plus, bar one lucky long punt, Steele didn’t cover himself in glory trying to play out.

Mark Flekken (Closed Thread)

A reminder that in his first season with us Raya started it by letting in a 20 yard header and ended up by letting in a 40 yard free kick. Maybe we just let Flekken settle into his new team for a bit before we judge? I'm also pretty sure he'll have been scouted to within an inch of his life before we signed him, so...

Let's give him more than 2 games and behind our first team. But I'm nervous.

With generosity on this scale I hope you draw me in the GPG secret santa this year.

Don’t forget folks ALL outfield players have someone backing the up if they are caught out. Poor keeper 99% of the time has no backup .

Give the guy time to settle in.
We are in the middle of pre season training

Looks good with his feet and great range of passing. Yet to see him make a decent save but that's mainly due to the lack of shots he has faced. All the goals he has conceded have been great finishes. All of them seem to have caught the inside of the post. Could do better but think he will come good.

Mark Flekken (Closed Thread)

His distribution seems to be at a very high level. Quite noticeable when compared to Strakosha who came on in the second half
