He says we've been lacking that clinical quality in the final third, but he hasn't got another striker in yet? Hopefully he gets one in this week.

Mark Warburton

What strikes me is that we seem to favour only the 4-3-3 system and are unable to adapt to something different if it isn't functioning well -- a bit more flexibility in approach could be beneficial.

Assuming MW decided to loan out Logan, that must go down as a major error on his part, though in fairness the signing of Tarkowski is likely to prove a great move.

The only one of the 3 that we loaned out that bothered me was Logan as since the Arsenal lad seemed to lack experience and was one for the future it meant that Mac was more or less our RB going forward when in certain instances, the Wolves game being the obvious one, we may have wanted his presence in midfield. I didn't see the logic at the time and I don't now.
I don't know the terms of the deal with Aberdeen but if we were able to , bearing in mind Macs hamstring, we should be trying to get him back.

Mark Warburton

So many problems! Why can't we just win every single game like every other team does?

Mark Warburton

Lot's of people trying to find blame - Logan and Farid have become superheroes - strikers who are failures - McCormack in two positions - the conditioning coach worked miracles - but our record so far is not too shabby.

We need a new face to wake the front 3 up, that's all.

I don't think anyone is saying that. I think it is quite clear that losing our winning streak has slightly knocked the stuffing out of us and we need an injection. Farid has not figured all season so I don't see how he can be the answer but I do think that his enthusiasm could be helpful, I also do not think the defence is necessarily the problem as they were fairly untroubled yesterday and the new chap looks more than capable of giving harlee a run for his money. It is a psychological thing now on how we bounce back next week and a new face or two may be the lift we all need. Its what Johnny Vaughan called the "pike" effect. If you have a salmon farm and you want the best fish you introduce a pike into the lake, this gets them all on their toes and exercising again but does not kill them off. That is the sort of thing we may need.

We don't need to win every single one, but we do need to bounce back like the others teams have shown they can do more than once this season.

Hope that clears it up.

I don't know the personal situation with Shay but I think people also need to recognise players have some influence in these things too.

Shay may not have been happy to sit on the bench and only have the odd cameo appearance when we needed to push Mac in midfield. Also the signing of Yennaris and lack of contract extension to Shay clearly signalled he wasn't going to be involved next year and Shay probably decided enough was enough and wanted away.

I don't think things in football are always black and white. I think a loan signing or two up front this week will make us all a little more confident again. There isn't that much wrong with us imo.

Mark Warburton

logan right back and mac centre of midfield where he can win the midfield and do more damage .must bring in a goalscorer now before a gap forms from top two and us . act now and we will go up .

Mark Warburton

I think it was interesting that Warburton had Calvert and Hutton on the bench. Further Tarkowski and Yennaris played because of injuries. This illustrates to me the strength in depth we have plus the club's commitment to young players. Several other clubs chasing promotion would love to have this. Think of the effect on say Orient of losing three key players out through injury as we have.

While it will be great if Warburton can attract one or two more strikers I am, at present, no overly concerned. Donaldson and Trotta will score several more goals thus season, and I think Grigg will soon show us why we invested in him. As far as Judge goes I worry that his strikes against Crewe were one offs and he will not be able to repeat that quality of long shot again. The statistics show it takes about 33 shots from outside of the box to score. I think he feels some pressure to repeat these long shots when a ball into the box would be more productive.

As Warburton said in his interview teams are defending in depth against us. I suspect we will see us not press so high up the pitch but try to draw the opposition onto us so we can counter attack quickly. I guess we might get a bit upset with this as it will appear that we are not trying hard but we need to let the opposition move forward to leave space behind them.

Anyway time will tell and what do I know. Obviously not a lot.

Mark Warburton

Not a good enough squad at present - bench more akin to conference standard than top two of League One (in terms of how they are going to change a game).

Disagree not enough options to change things around if need be

Steady on.

I've found you get shouted down on here if you actually post the truth.

This is Brentford mate. As we've seen over the years Brentford never do things the easy way, especially when there is a more difficult way to do it. I still think we can do it this season, but if we can't get at least six points from the next 3 or maybe 4 games I may have to consider changing my mind about that. Gotta keep the faith.

Mark Warburton

The loaning of Logan, in hind-site was not a good move however as supporters we are unaware of what's going on in the background and if he was not in our future plans then giving him a " shop window" sends a message to all the players that we will be fair with them

In my humble opinion the player we are really missing is Sam, not quick, and lousy at tackling, however he is a clever player, can spot a pass is tenacious and can quickly convert defence to attack. Plus he is not to shabby with free kicks. Think he played in the majority of the games in our run

He won't be back for a month so we need to adjust our style a little to get the best out of the rest, something for Warburton to ponder

It's going to be squeaky bums for the remainder if the season, yes results not kind yesterday but Carlisle has never been a happy hunting ground so relieved to get a point

It is obvious we need to shake things up in the forward line and we are led to beleive something will happen, win the next 2 home games and things will look more rosy. This league is going to the very end and the winners will be the ones who hold their nerves, and also get a bit if luck along the way

Mark Warburton

MW has been stating for the last half dozen games we are not clinical enough all i can say is b***** do something about it ! Talk is cheap

Talk may be cheap but a clinical striker won't be !!!!!

Mark Warburton

Perhaps Clayton, Marcello and Will need a trip to the clinic?

Mark Warburton

It does'nt have to be a new striker it can be done by coaching some creativeness into the team which at the moment is the problem, when was the last time you saw a ball threaded behind the defence for a forward to run onto it won't be done by going sideways .

Mark Warburton

i will be extremely surprised if MB doesnt draft in a proven goalscorer by next saturday.......i would be almost suspicious of our intentions this season if it doesnt happen.......i know this is contentious comment, but i feel very strongly about our lack of goalscoring prowess from our forwards at the present time.

Absolutely! Only time we got ball in behind against Wolves was a combination of a lucky break and some decent movement from Grigg as the previous 85 mins had seen Trotta stand in a central position waiting for the ball.

3 games on the bounce now MW has moaned about the final third yet still only played Grigg in a few cameo roles - shoes he obviously isn't really in MW's plans, especially with a new striker on the horizon. Sure there are plenty of other League 1 clubs who would be interested in Will if he comes up for loan as can't imagine he will want to sit on bench permanently after last season.

Poor management from MW in my opinion, but hopefully his new options will be able to penetrate a bit more offensively than Trotta does as he has been poor for last 3-4 games now. Not entirely his fault as supply has been poor from midfield.

Mark Warburton

And that's b***** cheap talk. Tell us exactly what you suggest MW does that he hasn't obviously been trying to do for many, many months.

First I would get a coach in for the midfield since Peter Farrel left he has not been replaced I don't know if you have noticed but our shots at goal over the last few games has significantly diminished and I know teams that we have come up against are " parking the bus" but that is where you earn your corn by drawing these teams out and getting behind them but we seem devoid of ideas considering the amount of good possession we have and that is where a good coach comes in . MW did state a new coach would be coming but it appears to have gone quiet on that front .

Yes I thought the same after the Crewe game, we definitely need a coach to improve the midfields shooting.

Mark Warburton

We know some of the midfield can shoot but we are talking about creativeness laying on chances for others which at the moment is lacking !!!!!!!!!!!

Mark Warburton

Mark Warburton

All i am trying to say is we could sign Van Persie tomorrow but if he does not get the supply he will not score . Carlisle have concede 54 goals this season and in our two games we have scored nil they are not the first team that have parked the bus and will not be the last and we appear flummoxed of how to beat it .

Mark Warburton

When did Farrell leave, not just before the Wolves game???? And seem to recall our midfield was doing quite well prior to Wolves

Mark Warburton

You know very well when Farrell left the midfield was ok at home prior to wolves but away what about Shrewsbury and Walsall , i know the Saddlers are a fair side but the Shrews were on a terrible run and there for the taking yet we struggled against them creativity wise .If we are going to make it the Shrewsbury's and Carlisle's are the teams we have to beat . Orient won 5-1 at Carlisle albeit at the beginning of the season can you truthfully see us getting a score like that away from home don't get me wrong i would be delighted if we did but at the moment i cannot see it .

Do you also remember that we lacked creativity under Rosler?

Mark Warburton

So are you saying Warburton and Weir are not decent coaches??? Are you saying that the games from the FA Cup game on Dec 7th were lacking creativity and results? I am gobsmacked at your negativity 'forever gelson'. Against Crewe we looked like scoring every time we went forward. In recent games against Gills and Bristol City we had periods of outstanding play and opposing Managers were very complimentary about how hard it is to play against us. I have a sense that we all know who the Manager wants to bring in but I guess we should appreciate that there are matters holding this up that we are not aware of. I hate the negativity cos we have lost a game and drawn a game away at a venue where we always struggle normally

Mark Warburton

If you think i am being negative that's fine but i feel we need a little extra spark to get us over the line and where did i say that Warburton and Weir are not decent coaches they have done really well to get us where we are but we are now at the business end of the season and need a bit more !

Mark Warburton

And therein we see why you are known as downbeat Bee.

hold on,the man has a point.....who did we have on the bench yesterday that can change a game......grigg....dont think so...........so who else?

Good lord man, we just won 16 games out of 19, only Wolves kept a clean sheet against us in that time.

I reignited this thread this morning to make the point that MW faces his biggest test to get us back into the groove again but I seem to have opened the door to every scaremongering, moaning minnie-negative doom monger on the GPG to start to act completely irrationally................ sorry everyone.

So we just need to advertise for a creative coach

Our bench is akin to a conference side? Grigg scored 20 goals in Lg 1 last year for a start....completely over the top reaction IMO.

last year??...........do me a favour...........i repeat.......who have we got to come off the bench and get us a goal?
