Mark Warburton

Warburton with great coaching background and passion for the game and knows the club and it's hierarchy inside out, plus a good relationship with academy director

David Weir with a wealth of experience at the top end of the game and retired whilst playing the modern game so knows the mindset of the players, and also a good defensive coach with good links at Everton and well respected in the game.

Frank McParland with fantastic links, having been part of the setup at Liverpool, one of the biggest clubs in the world.

The very idea of throwing any of that away (when managers go their assisntant and sp. director generally go with them) is ludicrous, along with brilliant medical staff and conditioning coaches we have a premier league setup here.

Mark Warburton

Why would anyone in their right mind want to change the current set up?

I think there's a fair bit if fishing going on :)

Mark Warburton

I would not want to change any of the current management team. I think they have done as great job and will continue to do so.

I think they may want to add to it though. Good people but little, if no experience at playing games in the Championship. I have been saying for a while if we go up, do not be surprised if someone is brought in with a little more experience of playing at this level, to add to the management team.

Mark Warburton

Am I right in saying that Mark Warburton has joined Harry Curtis and Phil Holder as one of only three managers in our 125 years of history to lead us into the second tier of English football?

What an incredible achievement.

Someone build a statue of Sir Phil Holder and Sir Mark Warburton at Lionel Road for leading us to the promise land. Phil Holder will have to be wearing his trademark tracksuit.

Plenty of expertise and some experience too - see our director of football for one.

We aren't playing in the Champions League! (yet!)

And remember we have the largest technical staff ever in the entire history of BFC.

PS Did you want MW as our new manager back in December? I almost alone did !!!! (Smug or what!!!)

Well done on that prediction but given that your preferred team selection would have included no loanees and every homegrown and development squad player available we would now be celebrating a 10th place finish instead of promotion!!

I think a piece missing is a forward coach. We have to improve our conversion to chance ratio (and penalties)

Mark Warburton

While I'm not advocating any changes, I think Aussie Bee is right to sound a note of caution; past performance does not necessarily predict future results.

We have a wonderful set-up but IMHO we do need an attacking coach on the staff (at the very least to give us a clue about corners) and much will depend on the recruitment team to get in the 6 or 7 players we will need, including 3 strikers, one of which must be proven in the Championship = a big money player. So, signing and blending that number into the existing core is going to be a significant challenge. Developing on our style of play with those new players and in a new and so far unknown league is going to be a bigger challenge. But the biggest challenge will be when we have a poor run and everyone is under additional pressure, particularly pressure to change. I imagine we will get some right tonkings as we adjust to life in the Championship and it is how Mark Warburton manages the players - and the supporters - through this that will be the unknown. He's been cut a lot of slack with some very ordinary and some dreadful performances since Orient; will we be so forgiving and willing just to blame players next season?

Mark Warburton

In answer to your question about cutting him some slack, I think a number will however there will be supporters who, at the first time we run into choppy waters, will be demanding changes and the D&G members will be out in force

Really immaterial what we think it will be in the boardroom that the questions will need answering

Personally I think we will find it difficult however we do have experience on the management set up and having got to this position I would be very surprised if the board/owner allowed us to cock it up

Agree with almost everything that you say but your last sentence I am afraid is utter bollox. He hasn't been cut any slack. He didn't need to be. We were beaten by Wolves who are going to be pushing for a prem place next season. Suffered during those three Northern away games but still managed to grind out 2 draws after being beaten by a Rotherham team on a winning run. Had a dose of letharhy due to having got promotion and then anti climax away to Colchester. During this difficult time the players were struggling with injuries ( Forshaw and Dean both had ops) and the likes of Clayton were totally knackered having run his legs off for the last 9 months with barely a break.
We will certainly have some bad days in the Championship. I seem to remember Muff got a 6 goal hammering early on. They stuck with it and had a successful season. Warbs deserves much of the credit for our promotion and completely deserves the right to be given the time to establish us at the higher level.

You just made my point, thank you!

Mark Warburton

I fervently hope, (with a certain degree of confidence given MB's track record so far) that we won't become one of those billy bollox clubs that discard the manager responsible for their success as soon as the going gets tough in the higher division. (I'm looking at you QPha, Fulham and many others). It is almost always a very bad move. Let's stay with the guy who brung us to the dance, and show some much needed patience and perspective when we have the inevitable bad result in the new, and much more demanding division. Enjoy next season whatever happens, it's the first time for 22 years, and only the second time for 60 years so enjoy every frigging game.

And remember we have the largest technical staff ever in the entire history of BFC. So why can we not add to it again ??? Is there a limit you have set ???

Mark Warburton

I know it must be the most likely outcome, but do we know for certain that MW wants to continue as Manager next season?

The attractions are obvious, but wasn't it the case that when MB asked him to draw up a list of possible replacements for Uwe, he didn't think to add his own name?

And if FMcP decides he wants to move elsewhere, maybe MW could be tempted to move back up again.

After all, being Director of Football of a Championship club is at least as "big" a job as being its Manager.

Mark Warburton

I'm sure :warbs: would make a very good DoF in the Championship but everything I've seen from him so far points to him wanting to be on the training ground, looking at tactics, drills and working with players on a daily basis.

Yes he does and Mcparland is staying on as DOF

Given that he said he was pissed off not to get it the first time round I'd be very surprised if he relinquished the job now.

I agree, just listen to his interviews, he's comes over as a players man who loves the training ground regime, He's clever and very astute, and I hope he's set to be manager for a few years yet, perhaps moving upwards when we reach the promised land, then handing over to his chosen understudy.

He applied for it when Uwe got the job, why after winning promotion would he willingly relinquish the post?

As I said, it was always "most likely" he'll stay on as Manager, but when originally announced, wasn't it "until at least the end of the Season"?

Plus the fact he didn't put himself forward when UR left, made me think it might not be nailed on.

Anyhow, assuming 'Bill Benn' is correct about McParland staying on, then I'm reassured that MW will stay in the Manager's job, too. :sorted:

I spoke to him last night and he told me McParland is staying I didn't bother asking him if he wanted to carry on as manager as I expect he would think I was retarded.

I think the "At Least " bit was just MB covering himself in case it didn't work out.

Why would he not want to be manager next season? I thought ( maybe I'm wrong ) that he knocked on MB's door after Rosler went. Can you name me a Director of football in a top club that most people would recognise as much as say, Wenger, Jose, Rogers, etc. if its that "big" a job
Most of all why the hell are we having this discussion when MW has just got us automatic promotion from this bloody league?

Maybe I'm wrong, but I thought when UR left and MB asked MW to draw up a list of possible replacements, MW's initial list didn't include himself i.e. MB suggested it?

Anyhow, I wasn't saying that MW wouldn't be attracted by the Manager's job (quite obviously he would), merely wondering whether he mightn't be equally interested in being DoF now Bees are a Championship club, and should Frank McP leave. After all, MW was linked with the role at WBA, wasn't he,and when appointed, FMcP wasn't necessarily going to be permanent?

Which is now moot since Bill Benn confirmed that Frank McP is staying.

Yes that is correct, but that doesn't mean he didn't want the job. I guess he didn't think that was a valid option.

Mark Warburton

Can't believe he didn't get manager of the season.

Jacket had a budget bumped up by parachute payments and Slade has yonks of experience.

Warbs is a rookie manager who did something many experienced managers have failed to do at Brentford.

Mark Warburton

Guess it's because he didn't have a full season. Otherwise would easily be in the running

The fact that Jackett has to share the award with Slade is some sort of recompense, I suppose. Imagine the heat on here if Warburton had had to share the award with Slade!

Mark Warburton

Pullis got the award for the Prem.

Yes, but it was clear that TP was solely responsible for Palace's respectable position, having done an amazing rescue job. With MW, brilliantly though he did, he took over with us in a good place.

Personally, I can understand why Jackett got it, and I think Slade has done an excellent job on a relatively restricted budget. Fair enough call (tho' it is unusual for a shared result between 1st and 3rd place managers I think).

He was. He was nominated.

Saw MW last night and he looked very happy with himself and so he should.

If it had not been passing down with rain only seconds before I would have said hello.

Agree with that. I had great respect for Slade til the silly interview but I've forgiven him as it was simply a reaction to seeing his balloon burst. Given the respective resources I hope Orient win the playoffs but I think Preston will do it.

Maybe only managing for half a season went against him.

Mark Warburton

I'm very sure that Warbs has some under the radar signings that he'll look to bring in. Probably has Plan Bs put in place in case those signings don't come off. He'll be our manager for the next few years.

That's a very brave and slightly naive call. I hope you're right because that means he'll have been successful.

He will be calling on people and pulling in favours and ringing around and seeing what is going on and who is signing who and who is available and who can he have and arranging meetings and networking about.
Mark becomes part of the rat race and he has a tough tough job on his hands and he knows the challenge ahead.

Depends what success is, we are progressing year on year, so 21st this year could be deemed successful, but not two three years running.

Mark Warburton

If he's still in charge in 3 years time it means he'll have been successful?

Quite possibly, but we don't know what the year on year targets will be or how MB will react if those targets are not met.

Anyway this is drifting towards D&G, so I'm going to agree and say I hope he is still here in 3 years! :)
