Hull fans all seem to speak very highly of Turner so I expect him to be first choice next season and it will be interesting to see how he gets on. Maybe if Platini brings in the new rule about 4/5/6 home grown players per team one of the big 4/5 might be tempted to take him on and give us a windfall !

One of the good guys who will always be welcome back at Brentford whatever happens.

A load of them called into our local bakey on the way down to Wembley this morning whilst I was in their myself. Had a little chat with some of them as they noticed that I was wearing a Bees shiirt and they all said how well Turner has done for them........

Wished them all the best..............

Glad they've gone up as I can't stand Gary Johnson.............

Well done to Michael Turner and Hull who probably deserve a shot at the Premier League after all this time. (I've just about forgiven them for their lucky 5th round cup win 37 years ago !).

lol lol the country went decimal on the monday after the game. I 've forgiven them too now. Still can't get my head round the new money though. Remember we took the lead and then hit the post before they equalised...

Well done, Michael, and the very best of luck in the Premiershit. I'm looking forward to some sterling efforts from you on MOTD!:sorted:

Can't forget the mass scramble on the goal line, McKechnie taking about 40 steps before kicking the ball down to Chiltern. Also gutted as last tim ethe vieprinter showed latest score as 0-1 to us and when they went to the full time scores we'd lost 2-1.

The success of players like Michael Turner, Steven Hunt, Herman Hreidersson, Ibrahima Sonko, Iver Ingimarsson suggests that playing for Brentford can be a very positive career move for many aspiring footballers.

It is for Brentford to exploit this "intangible asset" for its own benefit in the coming seasons by recruiting players who wish to gain the know-how to perform at a higher level whether with Brentford or elsewhere.

As far as Michael Turner is concerned it is pleasing to see that he has been an important member of the Hull team that has been promoted to the top flight for the first time in its history. Whilst at Brentford he seemed to be the model professional who many fans seemed to underrate alongside his more flamboyant central defender colleague.

It is unlikely that any people who were at Michael Turner's first Brentford home game on 10 August 2004 against newly promoted Doncaster Rovers would have envisaged that four years later he would be playing in the Premier League with Hull City (at the time also in the same division as Brentford), that Doncaster Rovers would be in the Championship and that Brentford would once again be languishing in the bottom tier of the football league.

The key to future success for Brentford lies in the correct identification of the reason for the disparity between the respective achievements of Hull, Doncaster Rovers and Brentford over the intervening four years. Those running Brentford at this point in time will probably conclude that the disparity is something to do with new grounds rather than the management of the respective clubs and the players recruited and the result will be.......

Michael Turner

I think you can't get away from the new grounds and the elimination of crippling debts as being factors, Debut1949. I'd say that choosing the right manager has also been a factor - although Hull City did survive a poor decision with Phil Parkinson (even though many thought it an astute one at the time).

I remember a few minutes in he made a mistake for Donny's opening goal and I thought 'what have we signed here?' How wrong can you be? One of my all time favourite Bees.

Michael Turner

The first time I saw him was at peterborough where Clive Platt bullied him into submission.

What an amazing transformation.

That performance at Colchester in that 1-1 thrashing will stay lin gin mind (as it did that of Phil parkinson who signed him partially on the back of it).

Michael Turner

Good steady player; one of the best centre halves I've seen at GP during my 30 years of hard labour.
I just hope he's got the pace to keep those tricky foreign moneygrabbers he'll be facing every week at bay.

If you do, don't expect to get too many points. With a strugging side like Hull, you will be in minus points from day 1, as the papers only rate the top 4 centre halfs above 6 every week.

Unfortunately, as much as I like him as a player, there is a gulf between Championship and Prem. Years ago intelligent players like Bobby Moore made up for their lack of pace with positional play. Today, the game has changed and everyone has to be an athlete first and I fear that Michael will be found wanting. Shame as I'd have like Hull to stay down and someone in the prem take a punt and pay big money to Hull before he failed.

Happy to be proved wrong but can't see it

Nah don't worry I'm not that crazy. Subs bench. Can't see Hull keeping very many clean sheets. Thinking having him as the first sub in case any late injuries like. If he plays well he'll still get the odd few points when he comes in

Always thought he was a steady player, but doubted if he had the pace for the Premiership, but I thought that about Ingermarsson but he seems to have coped reasonably well, although Reading have been relegated.

Pleased for him, but I imagine the height of their ambition will be to get more points than Derby did this season. Strange to say, I'm also pleased for Windass, who can be an annoying ****, but who continues to put in the effort despite the advancing years

Michael Turner

I am not so sure about the fixation on this thread relating to Turners' pace & how vital it is to his success in the Prem.

Turner has got a lot to offer, starting with his high quality as a solid defender. He reads the game very well, & is an excellent passer & striker of a ball. I would assume he has filled out a bit since we had him, so is probably stronger in the air & more of an aerial threat at set pieces. This gives Hull flexibility to play him in either central defender position, as the true "Number 5" role, competing for the first ball, or as the "second" centre back, competing for knock-downs, as he did so reliably for us.

I for one think that these many qualities outweigh his lack of pace & am very hopeful that he will have a decent season. It certainly seems from the little feedback we have from Hull that he is a key man in their team, & so should at least be pencilled in to play, rather than being replaced in the summer by some foreign import.

Michael Turner

Turner is a similar pace to Ingimarsson, and a similar type of player.

Ingimarsson has become a Premiership regular and I don't doubt Turner will too if Hull go up.

My only worry is Turner can be done by pace and players running at him. The Premiership is a lot more pacey then the Championship. Ingimarsson probably has a little more pace.

In the sports section of The Sunday Telegraph they had a peice on whether the Hull players would make it or not in The Premiersh!te, and Turner was one of only four they thought would make it.

He got some rave reviews from Hull fans and the press for the p/o final performance as well. Hope he makes it work...

Michael Turner

Not sure where this thing about his lack of pace really comes from. OK, he's not going to win a sprint against Sam Sodje, but there are many more centre backs that have passed through GP that are way way slower than Turner. Heywood, Marshall, Hogg, Bates to name the first ones that come to mind.

I think the point is, or rather the point I'm trying to make is I really like him as a player, as do Hull fans but there is a huge jump up to Premiership. Someone said pace and strength isn't that important if you have awareness, many years ago maybe, but you try telling that to a scout or coach now and they'll disagree. Natural ability, pace, and strength can't be coached, fitness and awareness can be acquired.

I will be delighted if he earns rave reviews for shackling the likes of Rooney, Drogba, Torres and Adebayor, however I think he'll struggle as I think they'll probably have too much pace and power for him. As I said before, I'd be delighted if I'm proved wrong and both Hull and Michael establish themselves as Premiership regulars, but, somehow I doubt it.

Liked his honesty in the post match interview on BBC where he said that the ball had crossed the line for Everton and it was clearly a goal.

And all the numpties in the studio could do was mock him because his manager had said even after video evidence it was inconclusive.

Michael Turner

I thought he'd struggle at Premiership, given his lack of genuine pace but so far I'm pleased to have been proved wrong. He also seems a decent, honest lad as he showed on MOTD2 last night.
