bail him out? It was a bit of fun. nothing to be offended by imo
.... 'allegedly' put a bit of a dampener on the joke.... don't you think.....why after all did they have to say allegedly.... spoilsports.

MotD

Exactly if anyone else in the league had a player in a similar situation and GL had made that joke, no-one would have batted an eyelid.

Exactly, in fact, if GL had said it about a Leeds player we would be calling for him to be knighted with immediate effect.

MotD

....#StandByToney.....or not as it now appears... interesting.

MotD

I think Toney is brilliant and I thought GL's comment was amusing, the two don't have to be mutually exclusive.
...he is...and of course it was.... until the 'allegedly' comment was made....think about it...an off the cuff joke ...that suddenly wasn't so funny....why?

MotD

Interesting conversation at the highlights start before kickoff. Toney into Wissa’s ear “ if you get the chance, hoof it over the top towards me, I’ll grab the centre back and go down for a penalty…”

MotD

....oh dear Gary....silly man.

Cheap shot from Lineker. Very poor.

He is a knob!

It’s a shocking comment. IT is under investigation you can’t do that. Has he made a comment about Mason Greenwood… I don’t think so… Dickhead.

GL has gone down in my estimation.
Not great while case is on going.
Plus totally unoriginal, and those sort of "funny" comnents have been getting tedious for over a month now......
Anne Robinson and her Points of View team are your friends here!

MotD

.... having reconsidered...without Kraken....who cares what big Gal thinks or says anyway..... similarly what I say either.

MotD

How is anyone offended by this? Its not like he said f*** Brentford.
Quite. However, the original comment is EXACTLY how clickbait survives.

"Brentford fans outraged by Gary Lineker slur live on Match of the Day" click here to read the full story.

Then you find out it is two fans, and the 'story' goes on to say "other fans were more forgiving" before quoting the rest of us.

The reader then thinks "Was that it? Well that was a waste of my time".

Meanwhile the source of the 'story' uses it to show advertisers more click throughs, to help justify the costs they pay to potentially boost their revenue stream.

What an insubstantial world we live in sometimes.

If people are offended by GLs comments, they may want to watch back the exchange between Ivan and Nero when the GK was blocked off.

I am fairly confident during that exchange Neto commented about betting, although this is from my admittedly limited lip reading skills. Ivan almost laughed it off and in the end, had the actual last laugh against him!

MotD

Not ‘offended’ by it as such.
Just finding it extremely tedious. Already.
And if you aren’t, fair play, but it hasn’t even got to the trial yet, so reckon you might well be in a few months time. And comments like Lineker’s just encourage others to keep going with it.
I’m sure lots of us on here have already had messages from acquaintances along the lines of the one I got yesterday:
”Wonder if Toney has had a bet on himself to be first scorer??!! Ha! Ha!” ?
And if one more person feels the need to share with the Twittersverse that they’ve ‘discovered’ the fact that his initials are “IBET”, well, I’m sure my sides will certainly split…..?

Isn’t “allegedly” just a long standing Private Eye/HIGNFY joke? Part of the joke being that it is meaningless and even helps give the opposite meaning like “with respect”.

genuine question. there won't be a trial will there?! Will it not just be the PL or FA or whoever considering the information provided in Toney's defence and then deciding the punishment? or will he have to go in and be questionned? They should get the lawyer from my cousin vinny or the one that got oj off if it does go to trial imvho

Yeah, dunno.
Used the term "trial" to encompass whatever happens that ends up in a decision.

It will be a "hearing", and, yes, Toney has the option to attend and answer questions.

I thought the jibe was pretty cheap and for those who though it was funny there are thousands of versions available at no cost to the tax payer across social media feeds mainly from Brentford trolls. I suppose once the judgement falls he'll be fair game again for the media and tabloid press.

Ivan himself has played as if serenely untroubled since the charges came to light so I’m happy to follow his lead and not clutch my pearls at a bit of gentle ribbing. Indeed he seems to be quite happy to dish it back to anyone having a go in whatever way as he did to Bournemouth’s keeper yesterday.

MotD

Couldn’t care less what Lineker said but f*** me, the Ivan / betting joke has been doing the rounds for months now and it’s really f***ing tedious and lacking in imagination.
You should hear the Romeo one!

And there fans too, after his penalty yesterday.
