Is there not an individual thread for feedback on each game please ?

Not always no. There use to be. If you feel strongly you can start one but I think it won’t get much traction ow as most of it has already been done in the thread I mentioned. Feel free to create one right after next match if you wish.

MotD

New Zealand 8am (Monday) news had a big segment about this and no one shows Match of the Day here. Also here Al Jazeera, Sky UK and even BBC carried this news.

My impression is this (together with other well known information not to be mentioned on this thread) doesn't look good for the world reputation of the BBC and BBC World Service and perhaps even the UK.

Lineker will not be on MOTD next Saturday....

If he does the Cup game live

Surely after this week he will do the Sunday game live allowing him time to do Saturday MOTD as well ?

Gary Lineker is to return to presenting sport on the BBC after he was taken off air over his tweets criticising the government's migration policy, Sky Sports News understands.

It is understood the corporation will apologise to the Match Of The Day presenter.

They came out of that looking awful. Very lucky that what they did to Attenborough got next to no coverage. An even more disgraceful mishap imo.

MotD

What did they do to Attenborough?
Nothing, it was just one piece in the Guardian suggesting they were going to pull from broadcast an episode of a new series that hadn’t yet started.

On MotD, why do any of us watch it? As many have said, the highlights and even extended highlights are usually officially available online well before MotD airs. Even those of us who’ve been to the game and had a long journey back will have seen them (I didn’t bother this weekend but doing so after Southampton was worth it to challenge my perception we’d been a bit meh- from West I’d missed how close we’d come to a cricket score first half!).

So, whether we like the punditry or not I think we do secretly tune in for it. Going on last is annoying because it means getting much less comment and analysis and here and on social media we moan about that. Having done well enough to be first on means we get to hear Lineker et al saying how great we are, although we like to complain that too often it can involve saying how poor our opponent was.

The increase in viewing figures on Saturday does suggest there’s an audience of people who don’t watch the online clips but I think they’re largely people who don’t care that much about any of the teams much either. For us as fans such a show would be eminently avoidable. Few of us will be getting in the car after a match looking forward to being back in time to see it or eschewing a Sunday lie in to watch the repeat and risking catching part of one of the Sunday politics shows.

Common sense prevails.

Cheers AB. Thought I’d missed something else as the Attenborough story was clarified on Friday.

You know you can watch MOTD on iPlayer once it has been broadcast, no need to eschew a Sunday lie-in

You have to wait until after the Sunday show before you can watch it "on demand" on iPlayer.

Personally, I watch it because I have done since it first started, so it has become something of a comforting ritual for me and I love it. The increased viewing figures on Saturday were entirely down to the fact that the story had dominated the news for two days and the "programme" actually followed a news bulletin. People were interested to see what it would look like, nothing more.

A normal 'average viewing figure' for MotD is calculated over its 80 minute running time, starts higher and gradually drops by about 400,000 for the last few games.

In real terms the actual uplift was approx 100,000 viewers on Saturday.

MotD

All this talk of watching on youtube, I avoid that because the thumbnails invariably show the result, which kills the enjoyment

No if you time it right, a minute of two before programme finishes, you can with iPlayer select either watch it live or from start. It affords me another hour or so in bed on a Sunday morning ?

The people who don't like MotD have a multitude of options so presumably can switch to that if they don't like the format. I do like MotD so would very much like it back to normal.
One of the most exciting aspects of being promoted was realising that we'd be on MotD every week. Still gives me a thrill to see the bee in the opening credits.

Course, we fast forward through the pundits, like anyone who considers themselves a 'proper' fan :). But we listen to what they say about us, usually just so we can moan about it.

MotD

Welcome back Gary. Thought they’d have to find someone who hates him to present it. Vinny Jones? Maradona? His brother?

I like him, he’s got a cheeky smile and says funny things occasionally. Not such an ego he can’t laugh about sh*tting himself. Imagine Alans Shearer or Hansen being able to do that. Impossible.

But are the Beeb going to let Lineker continue to spout his offensive biased views on the programme. He’s been openly Leicester for years.

MotD

For those of you who don't want to know what Lineker is about to tweet next...look away now.

MotD

That will be the first time anyones typed that on GPG, our bogey club and without checking pretty sure we’ve never beaten them in my lifetime ?
....well if that score is anything close to the result on Saturday.... it'll be a bitter sweet return to MOTD for ol' Gal eh :sorted:

MotD

And if you catch his eye and communicate effectively from a distance he has been known to stop ???
Catching potter eye aye ….. get in their brentford make it happen

MotD

Yes but no Lineker again its Mark Chapman

Last on tonight

Apart from Newcastle as it was a Friday game

MotD

Mark Chapman is so much better than Lineker. I liked when the ex pro's started obsessing about Spurs and he brought the focus back to Southampton. His questions to the pundits are thoughtful, well prepared and relevant to the outcome of the match, rather than the usual smug, self-congratulatory remarks.

Liked his quip at the beginning that he'd been booked (for the gig) weeks ago. (Only because GL was on live match duty today, but MC didn't add that bit!).
