His kicking was very poor initially, though it was getting better. He was a pretty good shot-stopper though.

You need confidence and self-belief as a keeper. Anyway, that is how they see some top goalies, like Scheichel, behave and they take their cue from there.

I never thought he was one that should have been binned.

One Stuart Nelson

Nelson was an adequate keeper IMO.

I personally don't think its about keeping adequate players, more as to getting rid of the adequate ones who showed no passion or loyalty for the shirt last season..

Unless we hurry up, most will be still playing next year, and I for one won't be paying to watch that...

I just can't wait for July 1st when Butcher says he will start signing players ( or not) ?
The club shows no sign of ambition and half decent players will not want to join a club that's going nowhere.

Come July it will be the same old excuses and like you Greenholme they won't be getting my money to witness another relegation season.

Can you tell us how to get rid of "the adequate ones who showed no passion or loyalty for the shirt last season"? Surely no-one will actually rush to take them off our hands - especially if there's money involved. I'm sure TB will be interested - but please explain......should be interesting.

One Stuart Nelson

looks like another difficult season to me!!

Do the board actually have a plan?

This is all getting a bit 'Emperor's New Clothes' to me!!!

One Stuart Nelson

He was acting like a bit of a Buttmunch winding the oppo fans up and it was becoming cringe worthy, just get another keeper in its not hard to find a decent one, weve manged it well over the last 20 years

One Stuart Nelson

Nelson's antics remind me of the time I was in the Scouts and we entered the inter-troop football tournament and our keeper was pretty good but kept winding up the opposition with "beat the keeper, win £10" and quite late on in the competition someone did beat him and we lost 1-0.
Cocky is good, too cocky is counter-productive.
For what it's worth, I think Abbey would have been an ideal keeper to retain as he showed pretty good form if you look at his stats. We would have been mathematically down about 2 months earlier if not for Abbey.

And of course if we're relegated next season the most important thing is that you were right.

You get rid of them to the likes of Orient like Nelson, clever eh?!

God you are such a bore Larry...

One Stuart Nelson

.................roll on 2012 then..................

Passion is one thing you can't accuse Nels of not showing.
To put him in the same breath as Brooker, Heywood and Tillen is not fair on the bloke.
I will rephrase my earlier line, he is a more than adequate keeper. I will forget him quickly but I remember the good ones and the really bad ones and he isn't in either of those camps.

One Stuart Nelson

You'll begin to miss Nelson's qualities when we get a sub-standard keeper from the Scottish league

Well said young man...

Good luck Stuart. Onwards and upwards...

One Stuart Nelson

Yes. Without going into too much detail, it generally involves waiting 5 years......

As I say - its all a bit Emperors new clothes - I just hope in 5 years time people aren't standing around scratching their heads wondering what the plan actually was!!

One Stuart Nelson

IMHO

1) Nelson will end up as first choice at a club higher up the ladder than Brentford next season and

2) Our keeper won't be as good.

Be wary of what you wish for........

Ok, so that's 50 per cent down.

We'll miss Nelson by August 25 IMHO, if not before.

Yet it's made a few on here happy so that's ok

As a matter of interest does anyone know if he is the number 1 at the O"s. Only interested as they have made a good start this season.

yeah my orient mate says he is doing well.

oh how i miss him, what a great keeper he was, come back Bobo, we were so wrong about you.......

One Stuart Nelson

Nelly is Numero Uno and has conceded just one league goal so far..:sorted:

I'd still rather have Nelson in goal.

One Stuart Nelson

West Ealing Bee...

Rather like Nelson, you perform quite badly under your own posts.

One Stuart Nelson

get a room you two!!!!!!!! did he just pull you WEB? :nono: :nono: :nono: :nono:

One Stuart Nelson

I think it summed him up when he said to me once : 'I'm a lover not a keeper'

One Stuart Nelson

I liked him as a keeper but always thought he behaved like a **** to opposition supporters.

So what?, I bet it would be perfectly acceptable to behave like a **** if the supporters were from QPR or Fulham.

One Stuart Nelson

He seems to be doing ok at Leyton Orient, top of the league this season and unbeaten, in fact don't they have a 100% record??

Higher level player, imho!!

A big loss, for the team and the club.

One Stuart Nelson

I'm with WEB too.....I think the Nelson "issue" is pretty clear cut.

He's arrogant, but talented.
Sadly, Keepers have to be flawless to be heroes, as their mistakes can be match-losers

Early days this season though, I wonder if Orient fans will stand by him, when he makes his first ricket, and costs them points...

Goalkeepers don't have to be flawless - they don't have to act like the arrogant ****** they are. I understand (but may be wrong) he wasn't even *slightly* grateful for a framed pic of him given to him (at his request) by a GPGer.

One Stuart Nelson

I stand by my comments, I think he was given far too many chances here and he didn't justify keeping him on what I presume was a decent wage.

If he does well at Orient fair play to him, and it may be that the coaching etc there is good for him. Whether he would have still be good enough for us is another matter.

I would point out that it is still early days though and all it takes is one clanger and he could become sh*te for them as well.

If he peforms well consistently for a few years at a higher level then he has done well for himself but we'll have to wait and see.

i dont know if this is true or not but i always thought nelson had a good relatonship with us fans and is a loss to the team tbh.

id certainly have him in the side ahead of anyone else ie brown, hamer, abbey

One Stuart Nelson

When Orient get there first taste of Nelson..from the half-way line and walkabout creek they might see why some of us had doubts oh yeah and don't forget his superb positioning at free kicks :fishing:

I'd rather Ben Hamer in goal anyday and he's still got loads to learn :sorted: by-the-way anyone seen Brown, where's he hiding?

One Stuart Nelson

Nelson is a complete bell-end

I would tend to believe this was true, and that this would explain some of the more venomous comments on this thread back in the early summer, by knowledgable and usually sensible posters...

I stand by my comments, I think he was given far too many chances here and he didn't justify keeping him on what I presume was a decent wage.......

How many chances did you give Sodje, who probably cost us more points from Feb 06 onwards than Nelson ?

Hmmmm, as far as I know, the goalkeeping coach at Orient is a certain Jim Stannard.....if only we had had him coaching at GP, what a season we would have had last year !

Brown (Simon), was on the bench on Saturday :sorted:

Smiffy bee your like a woman scorned you store up information and then throw it back in our face at a later date ready to use as amunition against us. Is life realy that boring rofl lol :nono:

One Stuart Nelson

I liked him as a keeper but always thought he behaved like a **** to opposition supporters.
Can't have been to bad if that was the only thing wrong with him. Given keepers will 99% of the time get abused by the opposition fans why shouldn't they dish some back, even if they are 'professionals'.

Would have Abbey over him anyday, but as he left too, Nelson was a loss to the club.

One Stuart Nelson

I like Stuart Nelson as a keeper and wish him every success :sorted:

Banana doesn't like him however, not that it shows of course !

Anyone see Abbey's howler the other night - to the majority on here it seems that if a keeper makes a cock-up then he's not welcome at GP so ........
