Micah Richards just shows himself up as a complete tool on the Ras interview after Ras leaves….. what an absolute arse. Just like Jermaine Jenas a while ago. These people haven’t a friggjng clue….. thick as sh*t.

Rasmus Ankersen

Yes - some interesting thoughts. His point about recruitment for the PL was interesting. He was saying the data says there's really not much difference in quality between 8th place in the PL and lower, but where the key difference is is in the athleticism of the players at the better clubs. Said he noticed this more in the Champions League.

So it sounds like whoever we're after, they will be more 'athletic' than what we have. Whatever that means!
I'm pleased he has stated the more athletic area. I think it means we need more midfielders of the Josh type rather than Emiliano types. The still need to be skillful but also able to tackle etc. This is a key area for me to improve if we are to survive in the Prem.

How funny. Just listened to it and was going to type exactly the same. Thank the Lord for us there are still so many dinosaurs walking the corridors of football ? ? ... and not at our wonderful club.

Next season is going to be very interesting. Seems to me the football World is inhabited by a load of sheep that just follow, stick together, with no ideas to take the game forward, or change years and years of doing the same thing over and over again. Everything we are not. Whatever happens we will surprise, and hopefully help convert some of the dinosaurs, although I am not holding my breath.

Rasmus Ankersen

I like Micah Richards, he's infectious and brings a good energy to some of the miserable gits on sky sports. But yeah, showed a real lack of brain power at the end. Before Rasmus left wasn't he the only one who didn't ask any questions... tells you all you need to know. Good listen, lucky to have Rasmus and Phil

Rasmus Ankersen

It's no surprise that pundits don't know that much about us. We know a lot, simply because we live and breathe Brentford FC. Expecting pundits to really understand us is expecting a lot.
Other fans in the Championship still don't know that much about our approach, and we've been battling it out with them for the last 6 years. Expect a lot of lazy journalism next season, expect a lot of ignorance about us, but that's fine by me. The more people dismiss or don't understand us, the better.

Rasmus Ankersen

How effing impressive is this interview!!??? Jeez, we are so lucky to have such great, intelligent and decent individuals, who mix confidence and humility so seamlessly!!

Rasmus Ankersen

Plenty of evidence to support the claim rasmus made. Quite a few clubs have risen from league two/one to the prem in a relatively short period and vice versa which shows the gap isnt as big as some make out. Boil that down some more to individuals within teams lower down the leagues then theres bound to be players who are capable of playing higher which is where we will be casting our net. Was beginning to warm to micah richards but he comes across abit arrogant in that podcast, turning his nose up at the championship when iirc he struggled to get into villas team when they were there!

Listening to that just emphasises how Ras and Phil (and MB of course) are light years ahead of the dinosaurs in terms of their thinking and approach.

I also have no doubt that these same dinosaurs will be desperate for our approach to fail. I can’t wait for us to shove it where the sun doesn’t shine next season.

If you can, read his Goldmine book.
Quite insightful

What did Micah say sorry? (Not able to listen atm)

I like him as a pundit though, good energy and brings a lot of positivity to the proceedings.

Rasmus said the difference between the middle/bottom of the prem down to the championship or even top of league 1 is often exaggerated.

Micah just claimed it was nonsense and apparantly no one in the championship even plays football its just survival of the fittest

Rasmus Ankersen

It makes sense though....how often are the teams who finish 16th or 17th in the Prem clearly not good enough for the division? The gap is widening, but the club will be exactly aware of how big it is now compared to previous years.

Rasmus Ankersen

The ponytail came good, he did lie, he said Prem within 5 years and it took 6 methinks. Amazingly they did think and feel we should have done it quicker than we actually did, some big words there. ?

Brentford, Southampton, Leicester, Swansea, Wolves, Preston, Barnsley, Bournemouth, so many teams over the years have come up from League 1 and immediately competed at the top of the Championship within a year or 2 without major squad overhauls. Would expect Hull to do the same next season. It's so satisfying to see dinosaurs like this even in the younger generation of pundits/coaches, the longer they are around the longer we have the edge.

Rasmus Ankersen

Mich Richards is like the class clown I've no idea how he gets so many slots presenting either on motd or the radio ..hes like footballs Frank Bruno a bellowing laugh and not much else..onouha and the other 2 were decent....rasmus did leave himself open when comparing top of league 1 to the PL pondlife but I think he meant some of the players...

Rasmus Ankersen

After listening to Micah it is obvious he clearly doesn’t like Thomas as he know he would never be allowed near a Brentford dressing room

Rasmus Ankersen

Micah Richards let himself down there. Generally like him as a pundit but he just doesn’t get it with us really. Rasmus came across very well I have to say. Smart fella.

Rasmus Ankersen

I quite like it when 'pundits' say stupid things about us! I just look forward to moments like Saturday when the extent of their stupidity is exposed for all to see! #martinsamuel

For those who can’t listen:

Rasmus was trying to explain how we won’t deviate too much from our existing model of recruitment, because primarily we are going to be looking for the same qualities and attributes in prospective players (except for maybe more emphasis on athleticism).

He then suggested, as the conversation drifted slightly, that the biggest difference in the quality of players is actually between those in the top 6-8 teams in the Premier League and everyone else. He said fans tend to use the divisions themselves as the frame of reference for quality (out of convenience) but suggested upon review of the data that this is not how it really works. His example was that even at the top of League One there are strong teams where the gap in quality up to the bottom of the Premier League is not that vast.

I think it’s fair to say the gap between Hull, Peterborough, Blackpool, Oxford and Fulham, West Brom, Sheffield United from last year is at least comparable if not smaller to the gap between, say, Burnley and the top 6-8.

But Micah Richards said it was nonsense, condescendingly said Rasmus was a “nice guy” and that Brentford have “done well to get promoted” but that the Championship and below is just survival of the fittest and that teams don’t play football.

We are going to see a lot of confused PL pundits next season simply unable to understand our setup. Took a long time for the EFL media to understand it as well. Frustrating but if we finish well next season it will make it even more enjoyable.

And like the Sky mob, who "discovered" us during the unbeaten run towards the end of the 2019-20 season, the mainstream football media machine will saying, by the halfway point of next season, "we know all about Brentford and their quality".

Frank Bruno is head and shoulders above the promotional sh*t show that is heavyweight boxing at the moment- and his taming of his "mate", Harry was ingenious.

Rasmus Ankersen

Micah is a good pundit, but he's just labelled us as the same team as Blackburn or Preston in terms of style. The Championship can be a lot deeper than that, but I am surprised he didn't seem to know much about us or our approach.

He barely got a game in the Championship from what I remember. There seems to be a conspiracy of silence around him and Jermaine Jenas in the punditocracy with regards to the fact that they were both complete failures who wasted their talent and never applied themselves properly. No experience of coaching at all either. Not sure how they qualify as "experts".

Jermaine Jenas is the worst. Never remember him saying anything of any consequence.

These so called pundits are OK with the prem, but know absolutely nothing that goes on outside in the other leagues, hence the generalisations. If you listen carefully to the commentary nothing much is insightful, it's all second hand information that is usually very well known. They add very little, just like to banter. Always thought Wrighty was good, possibly because of the route he had to the top which the likes of Jenas, Richards, Shearer et all never experienced.

Rasmus Ankersen

Micah is a good pundit
I'd always thought of him as the harmless, amiable village idiot who wanders around with a big cheesy grin - Laurel to Keane or Souness's Hardy - but watching him on the MOTD Top 10 shows has been shocking. Just watch one at random. Whatever you think of Shearer he does (or gets a sidekick to do) some research; ditto, Lineker's no fool. Richards just sits there and says "anything before 2010 was before my time, so why should I be bothered to have a view?"... before spouting nonsense of the "show me your medals" variety. I think he's best summed up by the blurb on his own website: "Micah Richards has established himself as one of the finest defenders in Europe..." Righto. Apologies for going off topic. Rant over ?

I think Rasmus slightly over-egged it when her went down to the top of League 1 in his comparison with the bottom of the Premier League, but MR was the epitome of a Premier League pundit. The fact that he didn't know who came top two in League 1 he saw as indicative of their insignificance, rather than evidence of his own ignorance, insularity and lack of curiosity for football outside the Premier League. :banghead:

You can add Burnley and Man City to that list. In fact Burnley, Swansea & Bournemouth were all very close to joining National league.

That’s a pretty accurate summing up of the Ras interview. It’s a pity Micah didn’t have someone summing it up for him before he leapt in with his comments. He gave me the impression he hadn’t actually been listening attentively because he homed in on and exaggerated one specific comment Rasmus made and completely ignored, or failed to understand, the rest. A pity really because I usually like him, and particularly the way he often stands up to Roy Keane as a pundit.

I'd have loved Rasmus to be there for that and either
a) completely rip him apart with facts and data

or b) say "oh sorry my mistake I forget you ran around in trainign for 2 hours a day and would play a match on a saturday if you were fit, so you obviously know more than me"

Rasmus Ankersen

And then went to the home of defending and was deemed not good enough and never got a game for Fiorentina

He didn't. If the bottom of the prem play the top of League One on a neutral ground then that's an evens game. So I was told some time ago.

The Blackpool chap that came on afterwards did remind Micah that they had knocked WBA out of the cup this year, so it would seem to hold true. Likewise with us v Sunderland not so long ago.

Fair enough, but I guess it depends whether one is comparing two teams in one off cup games or whyether a team roughly 30 places lower is consistently on a par with one 30 places higher. Obviously in one off games almost anything can happen as in your examples.

Having seen errors of fact in Gold Mine Rasmus is very very occasionally incorrect.

Agree - just look at Leeds, who Bielsa works like absolute dogs.

I read an interesting story about Dallas who, I think, topped the distance covered for the entire PL this season(?). During Bielsa's first pre-season, he had the players live at their Thorpe Arch Training Ground, so he could give them 3 x sessions a day, morning, afternoon and early evening, while also making sure they got a good night's rest.

Dallas' wife was v.heavily pregnant, already with two other young kids, whilst his and her families were all in NI, so she had no support locally. Dallas asked whether he could use the lunch hour to nip home to see her for a few minutes and Bielsa said "No", in a manner that told SD that if he didn't like it, then there'd be no future for him at Leeds. He very reluctantly chose to "like" it (obv)

It is comparing two teams performances. Results of course (incl one-off matches) are a different matter. I supplied the one-off matches as evidence that it happens. Otherwise, in Micah's world, PL clubs would never lose cup matches to non-PL sides.

This (aspect) will be define our campaign next season.......it's a reason why I think Norwich historically struggle in the PL as they like to play their football, which works in the Championship but gets found out at a higher level.

Leeds are undeniably a good footballing team like Norwich but are levels above in terms of collective work rate in the counter press.

Rasmus Ankersen

I might be mistaken but I also listened to the Rasmus interview and I am sure it was Nedum Onuoha who made the remarks about Rasmus.

Nedum Onuoha was also on the show but was much more positive, and said that he found the conversation with Rasmus insightful.

That's because he played for Shepherds Bush Rovers and had heard of Brentford.

We will have to get used to comments like what Richards said 70% of pundits are uneducated football wise outside of the PL most fans are the same.

We can go under the radar and surprise them all.

Rasmus Ankersen

What a ****.
Who Dallas, Bielsa or both of them?
Had a similar conversation many years ago with a Group Accountant at Coombes bakery in Twickenham where I was company accountant at the time. I left the company 3 months afterwards.

I can believe that, taking into account that a team at the bottom of a league will be short on confidence and a team at the top of a league, high on confidence. But the frequency with which a relegated team returns to the Premier League compared with the frequency with which a team promoted from League One goes straight through to the Premier League suggests there is a significant gap, and to be honest, watching Fulham or West Brom compared with Blackpool or Lincoln, I think that is clearly the case. So though I'd agree that the biggest difference is between the top 7 or 8 Premier League clubs and those below, I think Rasmus probably did overstate his case a bit.
