Relegation?

Nah, keep threads like this. I hope it will make for good reading by the end of the season. The alternative is that at the end of the season, the "told you so" brigade will revel in defeat and celebrate our relegation.......just so long as they're proved right.

That's total crap, I doubt any Brentford fan would ever wish that, I certainly don't. I would rather be totally wrong and we rocket up the league. I don't paid for me and my dad's season ticket hoping that we are going to lose. I admit I don't like the stats approach and I feel the way we do signing is wrong. But that's my opinion right or wrong. But happy my team got relegated just so I could say on here I told you so to people I've never met, complete joke. My best two friends are RaRa fans and if we can beat them and finish above them then I will be gloating.

Really, how come Wayne Ellis and I got a kicking at Orient by some big ICF boys after being 16 years of age, not earning and not able to pay you for a lift home when you had an empty back seat, I went to the same school as you but a year or two under, I haven't had many kickings in my life but your tightness got me one. I can't forget that.

....i can relate to this......one of the great lessons in life......allbeit a painful one.....but its help make you the man that you are NB.....enjoy the sun.....its peeing down in london town.

Was the statistical analysis employed as part of our recruitment process last season such a disaster ? It has just netted us our record transfer fee and a total of circa £12m. What part of it exactly do you not like ? Do you consider Gray, Odubajo, Jota etc. to have been failures ?

There is though a huge difference between moaning and whinging and expressing an opinion that might not chime with your own.

Island Bee's borrowed quote summed it up perfectly at the start of this thread - 'Blind belief in authority is the greatest enemy of truth' Albert Einstein.

As fans we have every right to express an opinion and for the record I don't go along with the comment often made to me "It's Matthew's club, he can do what he likes".

NO... IT'S OUR CLUB. He is the custodian and thankfully he's a very good, loyal and true one that we can trust, but that does not make him exempt from accountability. Otherwise it risks becoming a dictatorship.

And I say again that if you'd rather just post the same thing over and over again without being prepared to enter into reasoned debate with others who hold contrasting views, you'll always be open to criticism. I don't condone anyone being abusuve to you but I do concede to understanding their frustrations at your seeming refusal to engage in debate and the unbalanced nature of your posts.

Relegation?

we didn't play that bad last night the lads on sky who are outsiders looking at it say "that brentford have no shame on there performance and had moments in the game, and wasn't one way traffic at all" If we can play like that against probably one of best team in the division then we will pick up points.

Tommy smith " said on sky sports that we lost three key players in gray odubajo ,Pritchard and there were the core of the team and In his opinon we haven't replaced them, he thinks it's a bit of over achievement last season and the transition is to blame.

The thread stinks and we are in a massive transition and I have know doubt that it will come good, new players new manager , new philosophy all takes time and I don't think for one minute it's going to be at expense of relegation. Preston will be a good test for us and 3 points is on the horizon, boro was always going to be a tough fixture just look at the playoffs we just all need to accept that teams like boro are just more polished and have better squads. Let's see what the seaon brings "you beessss"

He maybe right with the three players, have we really replace them. I believe we have in Colin, but certainly not in the other two area's.

Kin 'el........feckin moaning all the time on here, have an opinion, but do not keep repeating oneself.
IF we had of got promoted last term, there would still be some bemoaning the fact that we are not on a par with Man City........think back all you doomsters (If you can or are you "young Bee's?) to where we were and where we are going.
One or two maybe three more in the championship and then see us kick on, feck me we could of been in the conference not so long ago.
Just support The Bee's and trust in Mr Benham, Marinus and most of all........ the medical team........Been there, seen it, done it........wish I could attend more now......Am I worried?.......Am I hell!!
BEELIEVE!!

That's very defensive. Was I pointing my finger at you? I was saying that there are people who do actually revel in our defeats who purport to be Brentford fans. It's been on Twitter, Facebook, etc. I've seen people already saying, "I'm right, this is all bull, Benham is not to be trusted", etc, etc.

So, I'd like to ram our future success down their throats at some stage.

Please do... I do know Wellish (didn't realise where the nickname came from). First time I ever met him was probably 20 years ago when we played football together for Beesotted. I like him and get on well with him. He's a lovable rogue and one of the best footballers I ever played with, but at no time has he ever mentioned me abandoning him in East London. If you know Wellish as I do, then he would hardly have been backward in coming forward with that story and would have probably (his words) "given me a clump" for it, amongst some other words.
Ask him because if you don't I will as I'd like to clear my name with you once and for all after all these years.

Wellish? Nope, he didn't go to Latymer. No grudge but is like a lot of Bees but never you, if it's not you then sh*t happens and I'm happy about it, no tricks of my mind. I'll catch up with Wellish and see if I've got it wrong, I'd find that funny if I have, blaming you for a kicking and it wasn't you, that would be funny but I doubt it.

Relegation?

I find this whole situation with some of our fans staggering. Looks to me like some are holding a grudge against Benham because Warbs left, as soon as there is a defeat we have a meltdown on here,Twitter Facebook, the stats digs come out and comparisons with last season start. Warbs and last season is over. There is no guarantee Warbs would still be here if Benham hadn't put his new 'project' in place, he could have jumped ship in the summer to another club anyway, or mid way through this season if we had done well. The way people go on you'd think MB took over in Febuary and his first action was to get rid of the manager. We wouldn't be where we are now without him, there is not one other person you can say that about. For me at the moment he's above criticism, that may make me a muppet in some people's eyes but he is determined for us to become a Premier League club in a shiny new stadium, that is incredible when you look at our journey over the last 50 years or so, people coming along and taking what they can from us. He will not get everything right, we will have bad periods and dare I say it even seasons, that is the same for any other club. Grow up and deal with it. Moan on here about bad performance and players all you like, but digging out our owner and constantly going on about last year is pathetic.

Relegation?

You are completely and utterly missing the point that by blindly posting that the project is failing whilst completely ignoring the fact that we have almost an entire XI out injured just opens you up to a wave of retorts. How can ANYONE claim that the evolution this season is a failure or a success after just 6 games and with an injury list longer than your arm ? It's just utterly, utterly ridiculous.

Ok if everybody is fit except for Hogan who was out last season. Do you think we have replaced Gray, Pritchard, Dallas, Moses Douglas & Toral with better.

Relegation?

If we end up 4 th from bottom I won't be upset,just look forward to the next seasons fixtures being announced.When we have a decent amount of players to select a team from and have all had games to prove themselves will be the time I will join in with the praise or criticism.I do note the negative posters on here never come up with what they would do.I believe Glasgowbee started that thread and the got no credible answers.When I have challenged some of the what I have thought groundless and unfair posts I get no replys happens all the time.I will also add this is the most successful time I've witnessed as a fan and the away games are superb win or lose but going to GP these days is pretty grim I get the impression that some of our fans can't handle success and dream of the old days when we really did have something to moan about.I really hope Matthew Benham has thick skin if it was me I would have said **** em long ago.
When NLB posted last night a list of all the players out injured I would have thought that would be the signal to get behind the club during this period that could never be have been anticipated.Instead we get the usual bile and from clever dicks putting the boot in to anything Brentford.Really hope the fans get behind the team from the off Saturday the team have delivered over the last couple of years it's time for the fans to do the same.

Gray = Yes (most definitely) IMO
Pritchard = No
Moses = Yes
Douglas = Yes
Toral = Yes
Dallas = Yes

So now we get all the injured back,the team firing (which it will do) and bing,bang,bong............top 10!!

Gray - Yes, Djuricin
Pritchard - No
Dallas -Yes, Vibe
Moses - Same, Colin
Douglas - Yes, Woods
Toral - Yes, KK
Then still got the likes of Canos, Gogia, Hoffmann

Magic, how is it even possible to offer an opinion after only six games and with several of our new signings having not even mustered a single minute of league action ? Take the forward line, we've lost Gray but replaced with Vibe, Hoffman and Djuricin. The latter has played barely two games, both away from home and I'll guess many, including you (?) haven't even seen him play. How can you claim that Gray's not been adequately replaced on the strength of that without being prepared for people to question what you're basing your opinions on ?

Relegation?

Strewth, this still rolling on??? Certainly seems to have split our fan base.

I will happily admit that I am comfortable with the way the club is progressing, our method of highlighting players, which is based on statistical evidence allied with tried and trusted methods has enabled us to get some decent players, last year it was Moses, Andre and Jota 2 of which have been sold and enabled us to buy new players of a higher standard.

Last season the 3 mentioned above plus Pritchard took some time to get going, who is to say that our new players will not blossom in the same way

I have no problem with people who have different opinions as to the way ahead but ti just dismiss things is frankly ridiculous. By all means raise concerns but at least have the decency to offer alternative suggestions

Walsall you have regularly mentioned the dismantling of our club in the Summer yet posters, far more eloquent than I, have explained in great detail what happened. However for your benefit: We wanted a European approach and the Manager not to have the final say in transfers. Warbs didn't want that, yet if we had followed that idea he might have been our greatest manager with back to back promotions ??!!.

Warbs advised he would be leaving, having previously had discussions with Norwich, and leaked to the press he was being sacked !!!!

Pritchard was never ours, Moses had a release contract, Andre was a no brained for silly money, Dallas wanted regular football and more money. JD was let go for internal reasons and, seeing his performances for Ipswich, could arguably be got rid of for football reasons

Now in short that is the dismantling. The new system that you don't like has been in force ( apart from Managers veto) for a couple of seasons and taken us to where we now are

Quite what there is to object to is beyond me. Yes we have started badly but would suggest that any team having to deal with this level of injury would also be struggling. What is Chelsea's excuse

As I said before people with different views are fine but to espouse the same old comments without any recognition of the facts and the injuries are likely to get shot down as at best it shows laziness to understand

No I do not expect relegation and equally don't expect promotion. Consolidation in this league would make a hell of a change from the past 57 years of watching

I don't think we have, hard to judge though as stated because of the injuries. I don't get your point though? Are you saying the project, as you like to call it,is failing because we haven't instantly signed better players? What do you suggest we do? Benham to start throwing more millions at it? It's a long term project, even at the end of this season if we finish mid table it doesn't mean the project isn't working. We can't compare everything to last year, it's about making us a self sufficient club in the Premier League, that doesn't happen overnight

Relegation?

This time last year the situation wasn't so different - we kept on giving away soft goals, often by not closing down in and around the box, got tanked at Boro, were really unconvincing against Birmingham and Charlton, etc. etc. Hogan out for the season, lots of people thought Grey wasn't up to it and that Jota was lightweight, plus that Toumani could never play in the Championship. We were just lucky that we had away games against Rotherham and Blackpool instead of Burnley.

And look how that all turned out. Bit of patience/perspective needed. If we're in the mire come the New Year, I'll be worried. But not now.

Got to correct you on one point. Lots of people thought "Grey (sic) wasn't up to it..." up until the moment we sold him for squillions AND they let it be known, repeatedly on this forum and other places, up until the moment he left. Shameful bullying of a lad from non-league, yet to reach his full potential. Far more worrying and damaging than a relegation thread. I think it's quite sweet for its' childish innocence. Chelsea might go down though.lol

Relegation?

Let's see where we are after the next three home games. Any less than 5 points will be a concern, 6 or more will give us optimism (well it will me at least, I don't know what it will take to make some people more optimistic).

This is how I see it as well. We have 3 home games coming up against teams who I should expect us to pick up 6 points from. After that, we have played nearly 10 games and I think that we will have a good sense of how the season is going to pan out.

Yes, we have a lot of injuries, but they are all long term, eg players aren't going to be firing on all cylinders when they come back into the team and other players are going to get injured in the interim.

We are letting in 2 goals a game on average (Bjelland being out is a massive blow) Have over longer period home form which is absolutely relegation form, a new Coach and a bundle of new players. All of those factors point to a real struggle this season. also think the league is stronger than last season.

So....let's see after 10 games, but at the moment - I am fairly concerned. Hopefully, that's just a reflection of my miserable nature. ⚽️

Relegation?

I dont have an issue with Hanworth's question, but my answer is No, we wont be relegated.

This has been a traumatic opening 5-6 weeks for the following reasons.

- 3 of our best players sold bringing in over £10m
- New coaching team, new ethos, new everything, so many new players most of whom dont have English as a first language
- Disruption because of the pitch
- 4 away matches in first 6 games, including Leeds, Boro & Burnley, plus champions of League 1
- If Harlee & Colin are injured or carrying siginifcant knocks, then we have just as many first team players out injured, as fit

With all that happening would anyone expect us to be Top 6?

The international break has helped us out. Was at Leeds and saw a team looking like they were getting back to their best. Not quite, but huge advances forward. By all accounts we didnt play bad at Boro last night. But did anyone really think we would get anything there?

We do need a bit of luck. Need 1 or 2 of those injuries to clear up, and then another 1 or 2 to make Lazarus like recoveries. Woods, Djuricin & Canas will grow in confidence and settle and will become assets. Arguably Marco has shown his international class already and will be huge for us.

My original prediction was play offs, but i am downgrading that now because of the above, but its still top half for me.

Wellish and I grew up together in Isleworth, we were as solid as anything until I moved away, I will talk to him but actually am smiling in the Corfu sun for getting it off my chest, even more so thinking that for years I thought that **** when your name came up when you say it wasn't you then I've been sneering at the wrong fella, no grudge but a sneer when you post, a nasty feeling where I bite my lip if I walk past you at games but other than that, no overpowering grudge, thanks for listening.

I've actually been very timid with the negative people on here methinks, my reaction to you earlier wasn't based on what you said but that's my last word on that subject.

Unlike others I keep my word.:)

Who's making the signing's this year compared to last season.

Tarkowski and Odubajo were signed on stats, Gray was originally flagged by the club after his agent approached Matthew and we ran the stats against him, at the time McParland and Warburton turned their noses up at him. It was only on a second look that they agreed to bring him in as cover for Hogan. The only Warburton driven signing last year was Pritchard I believe, but only on the back of what he did at Swindon...Jota I think was partly stats driven too.

Relegation?

My concern last season was our centre backs, lots of silly mistakes and getting caught out over and over again by the same plays.My personal opinion is that Tarks and Dean are ok however, that is not really good enough, we need players in that position that are better, with those two the consistancy is not there, it's one step forward and one back.It's a well known saying that defences win championships. I'm not laying all the blame on those two, but the spine of the team looks so fragile. Saying all that, still think the best is yet to come, no panic, just going to take time.

As you've broken rank, I will join in, I believe that Warbs was on his own about Pritchard, neither FMP or MB were too keen but Warbs promised he could control him. You have the others correct, we did the stats signings last summer also, maybe they were better signings, only time will tell but we didn't have the injuries or lose so many, wasn't Forshaw our only real bummer with a bit of sadness at Clayton upping sticks thrown in, crazy offers, loans back and release clauses have made this a tough gig at the mo, keep smiling and watch them get fit again and who knows where we will be.

Thanks NB for adding a bit more colour, what are the chances that Walsall Bee and Magic will ignore both our posts? Warburton was quite happy to utilise Matthew's database and stats team when it suited him. Those in the know within football were actually shocked how native he suddenly became, but as you and I both know this suited the game he was playing at the time. Anyway moving on...
