Retained list: The Wait

I don't know about anyone else but the wait for news on who's coming/staying and maybe more importantly who's going is agonizing.

I really thought Friday would be the day....I'm guessing Monday now...and then its's checking the web out every 10 mins while I am at work...

agree. i keep thinking about which of the contracted players butcher wants to get rid of and which of the youngsters he rates and whether he will try to keep abbey and whether we will try and sign older league players or gamble on non league again or bring in season loans. ooh it's killing me

Also what effect will not having the so called PROMISED £250,000 for players have, seems like the goalposts have moved already in T.B's first week, he will start getting a picture of the mamoth task he has in hand.
Good luck to Terry and Andy they have got an impossible task IMO to build a promotion team with a budjet of 1 million, half of which is already taken up by players on existing contracts.

I think your probably rightabout the Chelsea deal, but the board are all huddled around a table armed with there pencils and rubbers and cant get 2 and 2 to add up

I dont really seem to be waiting at all, I just know the money will never materialise and the crap players will still be here as there either under contract or Butcher wants to give them a chance

i don't see how we can hope to offload nelson, o'connor, frampton,
heywood, tillen and brooker after the sort of seasons they've had
and i'm concerned that these players (who i'm sure would all probably rather be somewhere else) will cruise through the season, impede TB's team building and undermine any potential challenge we might mount

according to mark bfc, the club has a one year contract option on ide
that i'm sure they'll exercise, so that's one player for 2007-8

if callum willock is offered a new contract i will cheerfully admit i know nothing about football and spend my saturday afternoons in the garden centre

well nelsons contract is up for one




if willock is offered a new contract is it really you who knows nothing about footie or our new manager? im not sure id renew my season ticket if thats the sort of standard of players we can expect butcher to sign up

I think I will give up if Willock is not shown the door, I have not seen such a poor player in a long long time

The teams who've released players already have managers who will have made up their minds weeks or months ago about who to get rid of. Butcher doesn't have that advantage so I'm not surprised we haven't heard anything yet. I imagine next week we'll see some activity but don't expect much news on those in contract as we'll need to find clubs to take them on first

Don't forget, Brooker spent almost all of last summer on the transfer-list and there were no interested takers, so it sounds a bit daunting to think that any of the contracted players will be easily moved on.

What's his transfer fee? I'll see if I can rustle up some cash with a few mates from A.B.B.A and we can buy him and he can wash our cars or summat.....

Brooker was taken off the list by Leroy so I imagine any interested parties would have got nowhere

A few players in the past had their contracts cancelled by mutual agreement. What are the possibilities with this for one or two of the senior players.

Cancelling contracts means paying them up, too expensive for a full season remaining. We have to help them find new clubs, Frampton and O'Connor should be able to and we might get a small fee. The others will be harder and we might need to be patient, some managers make crazy decisions if they're short of a position with the season approaching. Thats how we got lumbered with Heywood

Apparently they're almost certain to sign Lee Canoville, who is a right-back, so he may have forgotten about them.

I just saw him a few hours back walking down the Greenford Road. I used to play with him years ago for Larkspur Rovers.

Calling them footballers is false advertising :nono:

O'Conner in particular needs to have a long look at himself (mind you he probably already is,I've never seen a players head drop so quickly) and think about whether this is really the career for him.

Still not sure about Willock but if he's all we've got then maybe, just maybe he'll figure that this is his last year as a pro and give it a real go. Imagine if he gets a few goals what will our song be? I'm sure it'll be something half hearted and tongue in cheek but something we'll write about for years to come.

Wijnhard in his day was a decent player ;)

Let's focus on those strikers for being terrible like a fair amount of people do on here when clearly our defence and midfield has been superb this season, only let down by the above clowns ;) :fishing:

(Personally I think Moore and Fola are the most shocking players I've seen in a long time, Moore plays like a 5 year old running with his head down all the time, he actually couldn't control or pass a football :eek: )

callum willock might score the odd goal in a bad division 4 side
but he wouldn't even figure in the squad of a good one

frampton and o'connor have shone in the past so now it's all
about attitude and in 2006-7 their attitude stank.
my gut feeling is that they want to be somewhere else
so let's hope the club, players and their agents can
work together to achieve what's best for all concerned

not replacing o'connor as captain was a major error on fitzgerald's behalf.
kevin isn't a leader.

I am surprised people are glued to the web waiting for news. I would expect most players to have a few weeks holiday before they start looking for clubs.

The only thing I would expect to hear short term is TB announcing which out of contract players he is releasing. I would not expect to hear about any new players for 4-5 weeks really, maybe the odd one. I doubt there will be some anouncement about 7 players being bought out of their contracts and a list of new signings after two days in the job!

You need to relax, go on holiday and let the close season come into effect before the announcements start!

We are like the majority of clubs in the League - in that we haven't released ours yet.

yeah, but all of the clubs who have released such lists did not have a new manager appointed less than a week ago. OK, he may have been announced a few weeks ago but only took over a week ago and brought in scott a few days ago. Give the bloke a chance to at least look through the paperwork and then talk to a few people..christ on a bike, just cos we have suffered this poop all season does not mean the new team have had a chance. TB has spent the last week or so appointing a second in command!

No it doesn't, not to those who have watched the team play anyway....but to those who have only seen 2 games of which one was a victory and another was one in which willock scored they may require a little more time to pick the bones out!

Why?

This was quinns team, TB may have a completely different agenda. Maybe he requested BQ to play as many as possible to have a look during a meaningless game...this does not automatically mean he is DEFINATELY going to keep all of them...2+2 does not equal 365.

No it doesn't, and it shouldn't take a genius to know that some of the players you want to get rid of, you can't because they have a contract that expires next year of the year after. That means to get rid, you might have to offer them on a free transfer or do a deal and pay them off. The second of which the club can ill afford and the first of which doen't mean they will get off the payroll in any short period of time.
