Re read your post this morning! It was a very hard match for him yesterday, when he had to use every bit of his skill, and ability to survive in tact. Survive he did, and just as you have indicated he would have received great strength from the euphoric atmosphere created by our supporters which was immense from all sides.
43% of their attacks come down our LHS, he was definitely limping a bit at the end.
One more league goal needed to make it his best scoring league season. Or one in the cups to tie with 15-16 in L1 when he also scored one in the League Cup.
If we stay up and offer him a new improved contract I’m not so sure. He’ll already be a very wealthy young man with a big house and £100K G Wagon, if he’s enjoying his football, why would he want to leave?
Agree but not sure if he is likely to get in ahead of players like Shaw and Chilwell. He’s top drawer but if he’s in the top tier and happy he might be happy with his lot
He’s still only 24 and not yet at a consistent level to get to a top 6 club. Maybe at the end of the season if he and we have had a good one. But Southgate has picked a fair number of players from outside those top clubs. Until last season West Ham weren’t top 6 but Rice got played. Wolves and Villa aren’t regular top 6 teams but Coady and Mings get picked. Perhaps if we’d sold him a couple of years ago he might be there now but I don’t think there’s been massive interest at anything like a tempting price. If we stay up it would take big money from a top club to prise players like him away. We’d be looking to improve again next season and which players would bet against us? The worry about losing him is if we go down. But he’d not be the only one nor probably the most in demand. So let’s not worry about it and his ambitions just yet.
Was thinking the same thing. Him and Norgaard both went earlyish...around the 75 min mark?.......hoping Rico is fine and Norgaard was to protect him from another yellow which would mean a suspension

Yep I noticed him holding his back too from about 5 minutes before being subbed.
TF said three enforced substitutions which would include Sergi too.

Close thing between him, Sergi (who most didn’t think was up to it at all) and Pontus (who’s done something unusual for a player of his age and gone up a level).
Don't disagree but it should be remembered he had been out injured with his hammy for the last couple of months last season. So he really needed the first couple of games to get properly match fit. What a great player! Hope he is OK for tonight.
I think it must be difficult for players who have developed as a defender to turn that experience into instant decision-making as an attacker. He's got a bit better at arriving at the far post when an attack develops from the right, but that sort-of relies on having a crosser like Roerslev on the other side, but that view of the box from a passing perspective is not really there yet.
