Saunders does lack pace and I've always thought that he would be more effective in an advanced central midfield position just behind the strikers rather than as a wide player. Wide players need massive stamina and pace which is draining for the likes of Sam. He can go past players and has a good shot. He also has an eye for a good pass through the defense.

He played there against Hereford and IMO he's better out wide

Would be nice, after hearing Bostock's dad try and explain away the comments after his loan period with us makes me think that hell would have to freeze over before he went near us. I get the impression that a midfield of Bostock, Forrester, Douglas and McGinn would be a very clever foursome, it's good to think that we probably have a clever clever threesome already.

Dougals's performance last week was anything but clever and by most acccounts he was a bit of a dunce in the second half at Sheff Utd. A worry?

Yep, I've seen him look clever though and will cling onto all positives until proved otherwise.

your right I don't rate him and never have, last season it was a novelty when he came on the scene after being bored rigid with Andy Scott with his nice passes and all that but now I am sick of his hollywood balls that fly off the pitch, lack of crosses that come from open play, Beckham never had any pace or skill yet he worked bloody hard for the team and I dont see that from Saunders and I prefer Sam Wood over him as a player but not on the right, his deadballs are good but if I took every free kick near the box I'd like to think I would score 5 goals from 45 games....The final straw for me was the JPT final, every corner was either over or underhit and he shot at every opportunity ignoring team mates in the meantime.

:imwith:

Very succinct and astute summary of Mr Saunders IMHO.

When I think Saunders in central midfield, my mind can't help wandering and coming up with "Pinault".

Sam Saunders

Bostock would revel in the current style. I'd have back tomorrow. He's a thinker so a Rosler type of player

Is Bostock still at Hull?
My guess is he wouldn't want to drop down a division on loan, but I would agree with you on that.

I'd agree with that assessment. Saunders has some strains of Brooker as well, especially when it comes to making challenges.

Sam Saunders

He's not a one man army. He needs support also.

Agreed - but lack of support doesn't excuse lack of effort, which is what there was on Saturday. I am really hoping it was just a bad day. But anyway :backtotopic:

Sam Saunders

His overall play was sh*t against Orient. Thankfully for him, his free kicks masked that.

I agree, and to go further DJ Campbell was crap at defending corners, it's only his goals and pace people recall - in fact Charlie MacDonald couldn't take a thrown in to save his life, it's only his bustle, delicate touch and good goal ratio that masked this....

On another level - Edin Dzeko was woeful against Spurs, only his 4 goals in the game masked that.

Szecesny was actually useless at left hand side one-on-ones and saves from 50 yard punts, but it was only his total astounding brilliance in goal that masked this....:fishing:

Sam, if fit, is one of our best 11 players.
He is injured
Until I see Forrester 10 or so times, I can't judge whether he is better or worse.:moo:

Strange.....for me he was one of our better players in the JPT ,only one trying make things happen , i saw him several times for the Daggers and he was superb, must admit surprised when we managed to sign him thought he would go higher after the season he had that year. You strike me that you like workmen type players....giving 100% running round like a headless chicken.....well i am sick of that...i want better than the he tries hard brigade. I remember having several arguments with my Dad about Andy feeley(maybe u are too young?)....my old man loved him, i thought he was sh*te and this was confirmed against Liverpool in the FA cup......Embarassing. Anyway Saunders wil probably be gone next year as we would have signed Ronaldo by then.....:D

I have constantly stood up for Saunders as felt that we needed craft and guile and he was the only player with the intelligence to actually make things happen.

Regretably at present it would seem that Sam is tending to beleive his own publicity and when fit needs to nuckle down and show that when necessary he can battle with anyone. In fairness to him however if we take last Saturday he was not alone in underperforming. Its very much up to Rossler to get Sam to start to up his game, he has all the basics ( ok not blessed with pace) and if he wants to play on a regular basis he needs to show that he can help his defender and do the simple things instead of going for the incredible pass/shot etc.

What a crap post. His free kicks masked his terrible performance vs Orient but how often will that happen? To say he's one of our best eleven players, whether true or not, is a very sad indication of where the team is at the moment.

JPT Best players? Christ stick me in a pair of boots and I'd 'try' to make things happen. He swanned around Wembley misplacing passes, over hitting free kicks and under hitting corners. Having a bit of dead ball skill doesn't preclude you from applying graft.....look at a player like Andy Sinton who combined some skill with a lot of graft. I hope Saunders does prove me wrong but three bits of dead ball class apart I haven't seen much from him this season.

As for Andy Feeley your dad was right he was a footballing Colossus (certainly in girth) and always good value in the Brentford Tandoori after games. Never will forget the midweek game where he went in for a sliding tackle against a Notts County player as the floodlights went out. When the lights came back on the Notts County player was writihing around on the floor in agony with Feeley over the other side of the ptich and an angelic smile on his face....he was pure quality;)

I agree with this entirely. Shooting when the pass was the better option more than once infuriated me. Selfish at best, schoolboy-esque at worst.

Ok, a fair point.
If he can score two goals and play "crap" for the rest of game, then he gets in the team every week for me.
I'd take 2 guarenteed goals a gamen you never know, he might play average and get a hatrick ? :moo:

According to Uwe Sam is out of the weekend's game and doubtful for Tuesday but may be back in contention after that.

Good if he is going to back in contention as I have been a long time supporter of this lad, however if he wants to secure a place in the team he will have to change his ways somewhat. He has ability and intelligence however this season has tended to drift out of games unless things are going well, ( similar at the end of last season) I have not seen Forrester but reports are good and would suggest therefore that Sam needs to up his game if he wants to play the amount of times that his ability should dictate.

Should read"number of times." Only use amount with singular subjects.

Thank you, very useful.
I think most of us are more than happy to read The Pipes excellent contributions in spite of minor infringements of grammar.

about time he was offered a new contract then??

Hasn't he now got 4 goals? Making him joint top scorer (all comps) with Donaldson and Grella?

That was his 5th of the season today.

2 v Orient. 1 v's Chesterfield, Bournemouth & Basingstoke.

Contract? Possibly. 2 years? Maybe. We'll have to wait and see. :sorted:

The only player who stood out today... He's a moany f***er though isn't he?!

Sam Saunders

Good. Shows he cares and gives him the edge

It also shows a dodgy temperment. He moaned like a bitch for the rest of the game after getting caught near his 'nads. He got himself booked when seeking retribution and was not nearly as effective as a result.

Rooney, Zidane, Gazza, Beckham, Barton all had or have dodgy temperaments. You could name more. Its what gives them that xfactor. I don't care if Saunders moans for 90 mins as long as he does what he does.

He definitely faded second half but no probs with him having attitude.
He had horrendous stud marks at the top of both legs and that's what he was angry about and he was right.
