We have had Uncle Tom Cobbly and all on the right in that time. For whatever reason, and I would love to know why, it seems AS did not like Saunders. Had he overcome that dislike and got the best from him, in all probability it would be AS who would be leading us out at Wembley.

Interesting question, I just think that Scotty was unable to get the best out of him, because even when he played him we very rarely saw the Saunders that tore us apart when playing for D&R. So based on performances that were generally not good enough we did not see much of him.

scotty did like to fiddle about with the team even when we were doing well. hopefully he will be one of the first names on the team sheet from now on. and that the team will be far more settled - even if they have a bad match.

Was it because our rigid system demanded a winger and Sam isn't one, he was disciplined last night but the guy who beat us up whilst was a bit of a maverick roamer.

Noticed a couple of times last night Saunders and Weston on the same wing, swapping wings, tracking back and tucking inside. They both seemed to know what they had to do

Always rated Sam and put him in my starting eleven choice. It says so much about the last manager that Sam rarely even got on the bench, and it wasn't until we had so many injuries that he got a game. Last night he like so many others look assured and comfortable with the ball. There was one phase in the second half when Exeter couldn't get the ball off of us.....it was like watching Arsenal !!

Think you could be right on that one NB given that there were 2 or 3 recent away performances (Soton etc) where we had 3 holding type players and Sam, which allowed him the licence to roam a little more. Unfortunately he got injured so we did not see him in that role again, and coincided with a downturn in form. Would be great to think that whoever comes in has the awareness/nouce to use this formation when required, which appears to suit Sam.

Definately.................along with midfield always to pass to wingers instead of mixing it up under NF

Saunders wasnt the best player for the post match interviewer to ask about
Scotts contribution to reaching the final - assume Saunders was the first to
sign Scotts leaving card !:)

How ironic. AS ignors Sam Saunders for a year and a half then includes him, almost in desperation, leading to a mini revival which looks like it will save AS his job. Then Sam gets injured, the team goes into melt down and AS is sacked.

To be fair to Andy Scott, he obviously saw something in Saunders to bring him to the club. He had one good game against Norwich and then flopped hard for the rest of last season, he was not meriting being picked. But Scott didnt send him out on loan or let him go, he was still part of his plans.

This season when Saunders has been given his chance he has stamped his mark on the team, something which he did not do last season and why the right wing slot has seen such a high turnover of players. Keep up the good work Sam, you have looked a class above the last few games.

Please stop defending AS, I'm not attacking him, he's history and 2 games have gone a long way to show why. You backed him and fair play but look at last night, an excellent performance with freedom and with all the world off the shoulders of Weston and Saunders, we looked the part.
By praising what we are currently seeing, not everyone is digging at AS. We're in a honeymoon period at the moment and enjoying it after a long and dirty divorce (too long in my eyes) but I'm seeing positives and more positives. I share the feeling that Saunders and Weston are showing!:sorted:

Not Quite true, As arranged for Saunders to go out on loan earlier this season, I think, could be wrong, that Sam didnt agree terms, otherwise he would have gone out. In fact the whole sudden inclusion of Sam in the team this season, seems remarkedly similiar to Leon Legge last season. AS was about to send him out on loan and had stated this in a press conference until circumstances forced a change of plan and Leon suddenly became a permanent fixture for the rest of the season.

Meh, I just wish people would stop saying 'Oh he is great now, under AS he was rubbish' I just cant see why some people keep having a sly dig at the outgoing manager.

The majority of the team put in some very good performances last season, if people dont need to keep referencing Andy Scotts departure, I dont feel the need to keep mentioning that Andy Scott brought the players here in the first place. Saunders has been a revelation, he has not just gotten better because the wicked witch of the west has gone.

I guess that is the beauty of internet forums though. I will try to refrain in the future NB.

ive always rated saunders, and i beleive its no coincidence that now scott has gone he is shining. when scott brought saunders to the club i remember how pleased everyone was and he started off very well at the beginning of last season, then out of nowhere scott brings in cleveland taylor(who he had been chasing for over a year!) and when straight into the team ahead of saunders. so to go from being signed by scott and playing very well. to being dropped for someone new in the space of a couple of months, it must have been a kick in the nuts for sam. now hes back playing we have someone in the middle who can see a pass and someone who can cross the ball properly, which is what we have been missing for midfield. i would like to the amount of assists to games saunders has so far, as for me its no coincidence that when we went on that little run befor christmas he was playing.

Who knows if he had a "set-to" with AS like Karleigh did, but I think both players have dealt with their disillusionment in the same way, they've got their heads down and are easily playing the best football of their careers so far.

I've always known Sam was a good player. Sorry if this upsets some, but under Andy Scott his confidence was shot. Sorry but thats a fact, and not only him. Sorry Andy has moved on, but one of the reasons i was calling for a change and they are facts. sorry.

In AS defence I think he eventually realised albeit late that Sam needed to start. Unfortunately for Scott he's been injured since Soton after a run of 3 very good performances when he looked like the quality, confident player who played for Daggers against us a couple of years ago.
He's still a little bit lightweight on occasions but he gives us options. He's comfortable when he has time on the ball unlike most of our midfield so far this season. He's a
clever footballer who can pick a pass and likes to run at defenders. Glad we've still got him as always had the feeling he'd go elsewhere and come back to haunt us.

Saunders = creative.

It may not always come off, but boy he gives Brentford a different dimension in the middle and going forward.

We are starting to see Sam for the first time in his Bees career becoming a "must start" rather than "bit part".

Another intelligent game today, slide rule balls splitting their defence, plus cross field balls spreading the play. This boy can and should play.

Have consistantly argued that sam should have started more games however that is now History. he is now playing a role that suits and where his football brain is put to good use.

An additional advantage is that opposition teams now need to worry about both wings which takes some of the pressure off Myles and allows him to play to his strengths, I like the way both wingers change wings or even end up on the same wing which causes even more problems for iopposition defenders.

Finally I think Forster has shown real intelligence as Sam is not the most robust player in the world, although tries very hard, and therefore in restoring Kev to right back he is allowing Sam the freedom him needs to make a real impact upon the game.

Sam has that touch of class and arrogance that lifts fans and teams alike, one of his long passes or slid in through balls gets us off of our arses and right behind them.

I agree, Sam functions much better when he has a dedicated RB to cover him. Spillane is a good player, but while we have Saunders in the team I want an experienced defender like Kev to take the pressure off him and allow him to express himself without having to worry about his defensive duties as much.

I quite like the way Saunders sometimes tracks back, he runs around like a madman getting nowhere near the ball but giving it 100%.:D
It some of the best pretend defending I've ever seen.

It is good to watch him tearing about like Sam Wood but without the tackling ability or defensive positioning. Only trouble is when he loses the ball or tracks back I always get the impression he is a few seconds/inches away from doing a two footed tackle and getting sent off.
