..........if his corners and free kicks were poor and he has no pace, what constitutes him having a good game yesterday???????????............

Sam Saunders

Having started this thread a while ago, I am of the opinion he does not have enough influence on the game apart from the odd free kick.

Sam Saunders

Was stood remonstrating with the lino when the ball was thrown in for the second goal. Lost focus badly and contributed little throughout the game.

Sam Saunders

Arguably the best of a poor crop of wide players but needs to do much more. Hoping Forrester will provide a better alternative once he has another couple of games under his belt. Pretty average yesterday IMHO but so were McGinn and Weston.

Sam Saunders

I watched the game on Sky when I got back from Hudds and I thought Sam had a good game and especially in the first half.
Was a very good positive team performance

Sam Saunders

Didnt create anything, wasted so many freekicks and corners when we were on top and took the pressure off. Has no pace and cant beat a man, i think he tries and has the right attitude which our other wide players lack but ability wise he hasnt got it and i wouldnt be sad to see him go.

100% right & it cost us!

Sam Saunders

Bettter than usual in open play (though at fault in build-up to Huddersfields's 2nd goal) but delivery from set pieces was very poor

I disagree, Bidwell wasnt marking anyone which isnt right for a left back of a team who is defending a throw very deep in their half on the left hand side. I thought Bidwell cost us the second goal not Sam.

They both switched off, Sam was originally marking someone then deceided to get involved with the Lino & ended up trying to obstruct the thrower

I thought he did well in open play with some good passing and movement which was important in our overall performance.

Didn't mention Bidwell's fault as this is the SS thread, he was focused on the lino not the ball and this contributed to the failure to stop the cross never stated it was all his fault.
A colleague, a Huddersfield fan, felt that Saunders was our best player whilst on the pitch and was surprised when he was subbed, all about personal opinions eh?

Yes I think both were at fault

Sam if picked let's have a couple of goals on Saturday against Wycombe.

Sam Saunders

Early in the second half, we had a throw in in their half. Alexander, the experienced head tried to take it quickly, Saunders told him to calm down and not rush things, to try and keep the potential tempo by Wycombe to a minimum. He did a lot of that sort of stuff before we got our 4th.

Saunders showed a great head at times during todays game. He was very wise to keep the game boring for the first 15 minutes of the second half, I know some fans thought we were playing poorly but it was very intentional. Did anyone else feel he played especially sensible on this aspect?

Yep agreed

Little improvement from corners tho, we had many today and last week that were either over hit or didnt beat the first man.

Sam Saunders

His corners need to improve - when he does get it right he puts a great ball in but it's few and far between at the moment

Sam Saunders

Best cross was early in the 2nd half, no time to think, whipped it in lovely and only a timely clearance stopped GA heading it home

Not sure i agree with that, collectively i think we switched off and wycombe got their peckers up a bit. We bounced back with the sucker punch goal and cruised to victory from there on. Not sure we lulled them in, I just think we didnt start the second half as focused as wycombe did. I thought Saunders general play was very good, too many corners and free kicks are wasted though. I know players train hard but it doesnt look like Sam practices set peices enough (particularly corners).

Sam Saunders

I'd prefer to play the game at GA's pace than SS's. Alexander will often try to take a quick throw in or free kick before a defence is organised but most of the other players amble about.

I don't think the whole team were doing that but Sam was, the throw in wasn't a case of 'let's get ready first'; it was a 'calm down, play things slow to not let them in it again' thing. Tourmani's goal really was needed at that point though.

Pleased to announce I have just signed a contract extension at the club, so your stuck with me for a little longer 

Brilliant news

Sam Saunders

Most excellent... been one of our stronger performers on the whole. He mentioned that the delay was due to him wanting a longer contract so hopefully it's a 2 year deal.

He's looked good behind the strikers though in a diamond formation, hopefully we'll get to see some more of the best of him from there.

Just needs to blast in another free-kick soon, it's been too long! ;)

8 goals; 7 assists in all competitions so far. (2nd highest in each category, Alex has scored more, Clay's assisted more).

Sam Saunders

I hope it's not an automatic two year deal! Let's hope Uwe stuck with a 1 + 1 deal.

Sam Saunders

Confirmed as a 1 year + 1 year option.

Sam Saunders

With Osborne and Bean likely to be off in the summer and Kev struggling to make a comeback, by August, he could be our longest serving player...

Sam Saunders

Great news. Sensible contract, and has the quality to be part of a promotion chasing side.

You're, Sammy boy, you're in West London now.

Sam Saunders

We should rig up an artificial sky camera at the ground as he generally plays better when they are about...

Sam Saunders

This is excellent news.
A lot of credit should go to the management team on this one.

One should think back to the appalling management (by AS in my opinion) of Sam when he 1st arrived.
Hardly in the team and at one point a forgotten man and on the way out.

Well done Uwe and all involved

Sam Saunders

Perhaps not an ideal contract for him but a sensible decision one feels.

He is playing some of the best football of his career and UR's style suits him very well.

He is a player that would probably not find it difficult to find another club but one that plays him regularly and to his strengths might be more difficult.

I wonder if GA will follow him...more difficult that one.

Sam Saunders

Pleased that the club stuck to their guns and that Sam has the self belief that he is confidant of getting the additional year on the contract

That having been said he will need to perform on a regular basis as there are players in the wings looking to take over his position

Yes pretty fair assessment. Was never his greatest fan but seems to enjoy playing under the current regime and has put in some good shifts of late. As Pipe rightly says he'll have to be on his mettle as we do have some competition for his spot (be it in a diamond or as a right sided midfeilder).

Dont post much as not normally dont want to get involved in petty arguments but this is for a bad day for Brentford IMO.

Do not rate him at all far too much a pretty boy and does very little is most of the games he has played.

Saturday was again absent and was subbed. Majority of games he played like Saturday.

Ok he has scored a few goals but more often than not he is absent from games. Corners are terrible, free kicks are mostly woeful and tackling well dont think he knows how. Normally too long is passing the ball - thinks he is the Beckham of League 1 - Rosler's shouldnt have said that a few months back. Also no pace and gets knocked off the ball far too easily!

IMO this is Rosler first major mistake since manager and I am gutted he has signed.

I know the majority on here love him and will slate me so I will sit back and wait for it!!

It's only a 1 year plus 1 year option
Good business IMHO for a player who has proved he can perform in League One.
Rather have him in our misfiring team, and hope that we click, than playing for another team in full flow against us.

welcome to the club Sam !

Sam Saunders

Sam on form is definitely an asset, hopefully he can stay fit and create the chances that take us to the championship, still needs to work on his corners though.

Sam Saunders

He doesn't create chances - he takes set pieces.

Glad you don't post often then!!

Much rather have him playing for us than against us, 1 year + 1 year is a good deal for both parties, far too many long term deals done in the past, and look at the trouble it can put clubs in, IMHO this 1 + 1 is the way forward in the future, it should make a player more aware that they can't just sit around for a couple of years and take wages without working hard for it, well done BFC and Sam, you know it makes sense.

Sam Saunders

.........if he played against us The Beanieman would have him for breakfast...........

Sam Saunders

I also thought he was too fancy for us but recently he seems to have knuckled down and especially against Carlisle I thought he was very good. A 1+1 is perfect for us and I think we will do better without a mass exodus of players over the summer

Sam Saunders

I would not be worried about Sammy playing against us - He achieves very little apart from the odd free kick.

How many times does he fail to beat the first defender with his corners
How many times is he knocked off the ball
How many times does he play a poor pass
How many times does he "tackle" back but get nowhere

He does have a decent work rate but what he achieves from that work rate is not what should be expected.

Would we have signed him if he insisted on a 2 year deal - Not sure that we would have ?

Sam Saunders

Great news, he's the sort of player we need to keep if we want to move forward. We've had plenty of 100% loyal triers and it hasn't got us anywhere....well done Uwe

Sam Saunders

I'm pretty apathetic about him, he creates danger with his free kicks and corners but I feel he offers little else..a one year deal with a clause seems ok though

Like when he played for D&R against us and scored in both games!
