Adeymi.

Saunders Douglas Forshaw Forrester. It will be fine.

I hope Douglas has four Shredded Wheat for breakkies. He'll be tackling for three in that line up.

2 wingers a defensive midlfiers and a creative midfielder. It's a system that has worked for numerous teams!

The whole United team during the Paul Scholes era for example. He couldn't tackle.

.............are you saying Sam is a winger?????????........

We're not Man Utd and JD needs help so either Tom or Toumani has to be in a 4 man midfield.

Sam Saunders

Unfortunately for SS he is all but surplus to requirements.

Our attacking play is built around pace and power, he has neither. In the space of 6mths we've moved on as a team and he isn't the sort of player to make an impact on a game during a 10-15 minute substitute appearance. He needs regular games and full 90 minutes to get some sort of form and he isn't going to get that with us.

If we can loan him out to assist with getting someone in then I'm all for it.

Probably our most 'powerful' midfielder dropped and two lightweights, oh dear!

Not going to go over the lightweights bit as I agree that it could be stronger, but do you really think Adeymi is our most powerful midfielder?????

I think he's bulked up quite a lot and looks strong these days.

Sam Saunders

................why would you want a full back with no pace,a fairy in the tackle and cannot head a ball????????..........

Im not saying you would, i just think he has more chance as a wing back who can pick passes from a deeper position (albeit one that cant get up and down) than as a winger. I think he needs to evolve as a player because at this level he isnt good enough on the wing.

I do.

Big, strong, mobile and starting recently to get in the opponents box. Still lacks consistency but the midfield weren't the reason we dropped points yesterday.
I wouldn't tinker too much as think Adam, Douglas and Tom amongst our best performers.
We need to get more shots on target and stop shipping an average of 2 goals a game of late.

................sorry but'passes from deep' equals hoofball to me.................a winger to get behind the full back and cross is more of a requisite..............

It doesnt have to equal that, especially from a ball playing fairly intelligent player like Sam. I believe he could venture from full back to the half way line and play passes into Trotta's/Clayton's feet, equally he could play it inside to Douglas or down the line to whoever is right wing. This is all hypothetical because we have the excellent Logan at RB, my original post was suggesting that Sam needs a new position as he cant cut it as a winger anymore, it would seem. I think i would prefer Sam as a cover full back and a loanee winger than having Hodson as the loanee and Sam providing cover as a winger, because that has proved ineffective this year as Sam is unable to change the game due to a lack of pace.

Right back or wong back or whatever you care to call it the pre requisite is that the individual is a good defender....Sam cannot defend. He can't head a ball and in his time here I can't recall him tackling much either.

He has improved but I think we need to move Adam into the middle and mix that with Sam coming in at right wing would make us more of a goal threat.

Put Dallas in and I'd go along with your argument. Sam's not good enough, the odd good free kick and cross just isn't enough.

He's played preety well in his recent performances and looked up for it at Yeovil last weekend, when a lot of others didn't.

I agree that Adam would be best in the middle but Sam doesn't have the pace to be a right winger, I'd rather give Dallas a go. Still believe we need more bite and height in midfield and why we need Tom or Toumani in there as well.

His effort is undeniable but sorry I don't think he offers the team anything apart from what I mentioned before, the odd brilliant free kick and decent cross.

Sam Saunders

Haven't seen a lot of Kiernan, but based on the couple of passes he picked out in one of his few games, I'd like to see him instead of Tom Adeyemi tomorrow.

Did you see Kiernan at Yeovil?

My views for the midfield have already been made clear, but having seen Kiernan at Yeovil, I never want to see him in midfield ever again.

If his ball delivery was on a better all round player, that would be a very good player! His deliveries can prove very beneficial though, and is is without a doubt our best deliverer of the ball. Leyton Orient both our goals came as a result of his balls in. People say it's the only thing he adds to the team, maybe they have a point, but there are worse skills to have as your primary ability...

But yes, his overall game isn't as high as others we have. It's a shame but he at least always puts his all in, and doesn't ever freeze either... I would like him to stay with us, even if it's as someone who may only be on the bench a decent amount of the time.

Sam Saunders

I think his little cameos have been quite impressive recently

I don't think Sam has a long term at the club but in the last few games he's come on, got involved and made a positive difference. Don't think I'd start him unless at the head of a diamond which isn't going to happen but with 7 on the bench he may have a role to play for the rest of the season.

Well he wasn't very impressive taking corners at Yeovil in his cameo there !

No thats why i said quite impressive rather than impressive. I think he has looked tidy when he has come on especially saturday i think he got us on the front foot again.

I agree he added a bit of impetus on Sat but I still can't understand why such a talented player can't master the basics on a more consistent basis ?

You could make the same about many PL players. I have watched with amusement at the number of corners and free kicks by "International" players often don't beat the first defender.

Sam Saunders

I still think he has a role to play, always looking to try and make things happen, always happy to receive the ball. I'd give him a go instead of Trotta and leave CD up front. Forshaw, Dave, Harry and JD across midfield, Sam in the gap between them and CD. What could possibly go wrong?

Probably lots!!!! However it's an idea with merit

Can we start a list?

Sam Saunders

I started a thread on how bad our corners were a couple of weeks a go. Next game Sam starts against Orient and we score from 2 corners. Although his all round game does restrict us a bit his set pieces add a lot. I'd say he can contribute in someway to a goal every other game. If we are in a game in which we are failing to make a break through or get any decent chances he is a good option to have.

Sam Saunders

I hope he plays tonight. He is a potential match winner and looked sharp Saturday....but who gets dropped to the bench?

His crosses, deliveries and corners will always give us a chance even if we're not playing amazingly... that element will be there even if the rest of the team are below par/nervous.

............did you see his corner/crossing ability at Yeovil????????truly woeful which it has been for the majority of the season...............

Sam Saunders

I've never massively rated Sam's corners. Not saying that he doesn't put some good ones in, but I don't think he's particularly any better than average. Dead ball shooting opportunities however he is good at.

What like against Orient in his last start when he had two assists.

Or against Tranmere when he came on and raised the intensity of our team and tested Fon Williams with a decent free kick.

But yes lets pick on Sam for the Yeovil game for coming on in a game where we were already 2-0 down and the others had already given up.

Also lets remeber the pitch was ****ing awful, so crossing was never going to be easy, at least he looked interested then.

For all Sam's good and bad points enjoy him while you can. Cannot see his contract being renewed for next season.

I'm not so sure, just for the fact I think that Forrester and possibly Forshaw will be gone.

I have to agree with Kingston Bee on this one. Don't think he'll be with us next season. Reckon Stuart Dallas has a higher ceiling on his talent.

Sam Saunders

Sam will be 30 next season, I'm not sure he's going to stick around. Forrester is a bit of a flash in the pan; he's got to get back to some great form to be attractive to anyone. I'd prefer to offer Forshaw an improved contract.

We are going to have use Dallas at some point and would be dissapointed if we didn't.

I think with our current squad you're probably right that Saunders would be let go at the end of the season (espeically as his wage is probably too good for a bench warmer) but I have the sneaking suspicion someone will come in for Forshaw and if he and Foresster leave, it would be tough for us to find replacements of a better abilty then Sam IMO.

If we were to get promotion both players would stay imo, unfortunately if that did not happen then certainly Forrester is likely to go, less so Forshaw who is under contract. Saunders is out of contract at the end of the season, is not a regular in the first 11, he will be on his way...
