How can a 26 year old with 200 appearances have a "terrible injury record".

Okay, it's not Darren Anderton-esque but he has 167 league appearances which averages out at about 23 per season so he plays about half the games - it's not a great record.

This is what Leyton Orient fans had to say on the matter: http://www.leytonorient2.com/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=197552

Obviously they're going to be a bit biased with him being a former player of theirs but comments like "utter rubbish" and "truly awful" are things that we would save for a Pead or a Willock.

sonofabee - I'm delighted with how we're doing in the league, but this doesn't mean that I'm not allowed to voice my honest opinion on a new signing.

I'll take back the "cheaper" part of my earlier comment as he's clearly not going to be on much but his injury record is terrible and he generally doesn't seem at all highly rated by fans of his previous clubs, which I don't think is a good sign.

I'd be delighted to be proved wrong.
Fair do's, but think about it, why MUST there be cheaper, better, premiership youngsters out there available to Brentford that are what we need now?

We're not that an attractive proposition compared to the 48 clubs in the championship and league 1 who might want them, this is a league of donkeys and unless youngsters are looking to toughen up, it's not the place to flourish. Give me someone with 200 plus games at only 26 as they must know their way around this division.

What we need is a mixture of power, experience and team spirit to fight our way out of this rubbish league and if AS thinks David Hunt will benefit us I'm happy to trust him.

he's averaged over 30 games a season, from 2003, that's good enough for me. some people

your argument re: cheap option, not enough games, has been blown apart!

23 league games a season out of 46 - I make that 50% which doesn't exactly "blow apart" my argument that he doesn't play enough games. His record for Shrewsbury is even worse - 27 league games in a season and a half (Wikipedia describes his spell at Shrewsbury as "littered with injuries"). You can try to blow apart my arguments all you like, he won't suddenly become a good player.

roflroflrofl

169 league matches in 5 years...............work it out for yourself. NEXT!

add cup matches (25) that makes 194 (ok minus 2 for Palace ) = 192 !!! in 5 years!

He's played more games than Marcus Bean, Charlie MacDonald, Mark Phillips, Gary Smith, Glenn Poole, John Halls - all players of roughly similar age. I'm struggling to follow the injury prone argument if I'm honest.

SWB argument IMO has been stopped in it's tracks, lets see how he plays then before more comments are made, let's see if he is an 'injury prone', 'cheap option' journeyman  but IMO he is a good signing.

I must admit this signing does not exactly fill me with joy. It appears to me that he is here to make the numbers up.

However, to date, AS has got most things right, so he may well turn out to be OK. Anyway welcome and I hope you cam play an important roll in our push for promotion.

Well Phillips and Smith are very injury prone themselves, Halls was a reserve during his time at Reading, Bean is 2 years younger. MacDonald I will give you. Anyway, Hunt's injury record in his early career is pretty much irrelevant - it's what he's like now that counts and if his time with Shrewsbury was indeed "littered with injuries" then I don't think it's too much of a stretch to describe him as "injury prone".

Hear hear, I've frankly had enough of picking holes in his career stats just to further my argument, and would much rather give the guy a chance and hopefully be proved wrong.

At least he looks like he could scare the oppo a bit.

Too many pretty boys in our side for my liking...

Centre midfield is a position we've been lacking in and it's a crucial position on the pitch so we've got someone in who has experience there instead of an unproven youngster.

Makes sense to me and would seem a decent enough signing

A difficult pitch and a hard game to come into at the stage he did. It would be unfair to judge him on the pony he produced as they had all gone crap by then. A frustrating day.

The David Hunt thread

we can start to look forward to a few long throws

The David Hunt thread

From my memory he appeared in a programme that used to be on sunday mornings about palace youth team players a few years ago, looked pretty good then and even did some double work as Beckham i think!

As an idea for a song how about a slight alteration to the chorus of Billy Hunt by the Jam? David Hunt, David Hunt, David David David, David HUUUUUUNNNT! :sorted:

He does have a good throw on him but not quite as far & fast as our Rory's ;)

I am sure that Andy Scott sees more in him than the ability to throwthe ball a long way!!

has to be a good signing, if Bean or O'Connor are out, who would fill the void, no one. Over 200 games experience, has to be good. Well done AS :sorted:

Yesterday's performance from Mr Hunt proves you 100% spot on maddogging :sorted:

The David Hunt thread

He will have the last laugh when he takes his Championship medal back to show his olde team-mates at Shrewbury

The David Hunt thread

solid performance yesterday :sorted:
and that long throw really is a weapon, just like a corner, and wycombe had to defend them like that!

The David Hunt thread

Can we do what Stoke do and get all excited like when we get a corner? :D

The David Hunt thread

He was outstanding yesterday when you consider that is his first start! Well done lad keep it up!

The David Hunt thread

It's interesting that Shrewsbury let him go. His long throw is an asset but its not all he's got. He can take decent set pieces and can play too. Their loss is our gain.

The David Hunt thread

He was excellant yesterdy and his throw in is a definate plus for us. Scored from a free kick too -can't be bad :sorted:

The David Hunt thread

Given it was his first 90 minutes for a year it was an outstanding performance. His dead ball kicking is very classy, everyone of them was notably deep and effective.

The David Hunt thread

Looked absolute mustard yesterday, good to know we've got decent cover for kev as i worry he could be out a while.

probably both parties wanted to move on, Hunt wanted to return to London area and Shrews didn't think he was up to the job, IMO he is! He showed something when he came on as sub several times and proved what a good player he is to have around.

The David Hunt thread

Nice words from him on the O/S. Great game yesterday from a top bloke.

He wore the red and white with pride yesderday and gave 110%.

Andy said yesterday that it was not too serious and he was looking at the Bradford game April 4.

The David Hunt thread

Agreed. He was superb yesterday and my (and many others I suspect) MOTM. His long throw, or rather rocket propelled throws a real asset too. Fluked the goal, but he had it on target so deserved the luck. :sorted:

The David Hunt thread

Did anyone else notice how good his corners were yesterday?

The David Hunt thread

Thought he was very good at the weekend, and hopefully will get better with more games under his belt. Wycombe were a big side, and his corners and throws still caused them huge problems. Smaller sides will crumble if he carries on delivering like that. Sounds from his interview like he is enjoying his time with us. Well done AS, this really is a good squad as well as team!

The David Hunt thread

Had a good game on Saturday. One very small criticism was that one or two of his throws went straight to their keepers hands. Easy to sort that out and then he can help us score from throw ins as well as directly from free kicks.

The David Hunt thread

David Hunt is very Beckham-esque in his passing style. He has done very well for us.

The David Hunt thread

Would have done if he had taken the penalty :(

Totally agree,him or smith.
I think he's done ok for us and may deserve a place in our side for a start on monday.

So we haven't won a game with him starting,so what! its some of the others who let us down today and certainly not him!....he's still would be in most peoples team on monday i'm sure

The David Hunt thread

I think he's shortened his throws a bit... and we seem to be making more of them because of that.

The David Hunt thread

And we are yet to score from one of them. Not making the most of attacking positions and I would rather we didnt use them at all - also means a centre midfielder is out of position once they head it clear.

Another opinion. :sorted:

The David Hunt thread

I think he's a fine player - he does drift at times but in general, he's quality on the ball and not afraid to get a decent tackle in.
