Rosler summed it up well in the chronny by saying bean is a very good squad player and you know what your getting with him. Worth keeping but only on our terms not his agents.

The Marcus Bean thread

With respect, I think we're in danger yet again of biggin up an average player. I doubt Marcus would feature as a regular first choice in most top 10 teams in League 1 so surprised at the Sky hype. Good luck to him if it comes off but I suspect it's a bit of agent work. I don't think we need him if we have a fit O'Connor .

Rosler is waiting to the end of the season before offering Marcus anything.
Hoping to attract a Forshaw or another young dynamic player from the Championship.
I'd have thought the club would have at least offered Marcus a 1 year extension....He'll be missed if he goes. Not as easily replaced as some might think

The Marcus Bean thread

If we were to secure Forshaw for next season, and don't move others on, we'd have Kev, Forshaw, Douglas, Diagouraga and Reeves for CM. Uwe might feel that's enough, with the odd loanee if injuries or suspensions hit us. if we don't get Forshaw, but do keep Marcus, then we'd have the same MF as this season, one which hasn't been consistent enough.. and where Reeves is the only one whose age makes significant improvement likely. I'd say one of Kev, Marcus and Toumani probably has to move on

Fully agree. Based on recent performances I would be happy for Dave to move on instead of Marcus but as we know he is under contract next season.

The Marcus Bean thread

We need to make sure we have sufficient 'bite' in midfield to win the ball in the first place (Marcus is good at this) to avoid being outmuscled by some of the very physical teams in this league. Too often we seem to get bullied in midfield.

Rubbish, Tourmani is a very good player and IMO one of a few in the squad who could get by in the Championship ( if we ever got there !!).....I would like to see Marcus stay and Forshaw sign, this would give us nice blend in Midfield with options in centre mid of Douglas, Tourmani,Beano, Forshaw, plus Sam and our new right midfielder Shaleum .....sorted !

The Marcus Bean thread

Shall we worry if he's good enough for the Championship if / when we ever get promoted ? He seems good enough for league one and at last glance that was the league we were in ,around 9th ,so not exactly setting the World on fire there either .

Agreed. Ball playing midfielders are an excellent commodity but without the water-carriers giving them the ball they cant do an awful lot to influence higher up the pitch.

The Marcus Bean thread

Agree that save has all the abities to play at a higher level, apart from one which is consistency. At times he looks great whilst at others he is anonymous, this can even happen during a game when it is easy to forget he is playing

In my book he would not be nailed on to play in a team which has aspirations of getting to the championship and staying there. He is I believe contracted through next season which is, in my opinion, a very important one for his future

For save read Dave!! Bloody phone !!

Madness!! Would you really get rid of Dave and keep O'Connor, how many teams in the top 10 would O'Connor walk in to?

NONE, Div 2 level at best and always will be...I know i'm in the minority, but I don''t care cos i'm right :sorted:

Did you see Dave at Orient or Muff, as he performed this season? I dont recall too many games where I thought we need to hang onto to this guy. In may ways I expect more from Dave than KOC or Beano, but he has not performed. Happy to hear you tell me of the games that he influenced....

Hear what you say and agree to a certain degree. Unfortunately Dave has been crap. Bean and KOC are similar in may ways, I expect more from Dave, he has not delivered end of. Do please tell me of the games in which he has performed, I am all ears...

I thought he performed well before his injury, I'll admit he's not been as good since he's returned, but I do believe he's a very good player.

The Marcus Bean thread

It would be a big mistake letting Beano go, but who knows where his mind is at. He knows he's not guaranteed a start every week, but maybe Uwe is playing the management card a little bit and has challenged Marcus to earn himself a contract for next season.

We certainly missed him when he wasn't playing. Against Rochdale, untill he got injured, definitely gave us that 'bite' in midfield.

So he keeps being picked and offered new contracts by multiple different managers because...?

He is a good squad player, can fill in in defence or midfield. We have missed his influence in plenty of games this season where Kev could have been subbed on to use his experience, settle the team down and ensure the points.

Thanks Marcus for what you have done on the pitch for this club. There is alot of competition for places in the team as is the case all over. If you get a better offer to pastures new, where perhaps a change is as good as a rest. So be it. If you do stay you will have to be at your best to keep in the side. At your best you are a big plus for us. So all in all without being indifferent and I hope I'm not ,whatever happens I hope is for the best. Good luck Marcus.

Rochdale home and Preston away? beg to differ....not a good return from 30 odd games though is it?

When he came on last week he scored and played much better than his recent performances and was more in the game.
We're you there at Preston, what did you think of Daves performance then?
He's only started 22 games this season I believe not sure how many as sub but still I reckon he's a had a good season, injury didn't help and he's never not played crap for a few games he's been ok just been going missing for spells. I'm sure Uwe and the rest of the coaches are working on that :)
Dave is a very talented player. I'm sure he will be here next season. Uwe seems to like him too.

I will always remember beano for his goal against Lincoln away ran onto a through ball from the half way line and calmy tucked it away when every bees fan there thought he would mess it up as he had to long to think about it

...........yep...........was a very composed finish.............shame he wasn't as composed at H'field this season.............

Funny how so many of our poor performances have coincided with Kevs injury. Kev is never going to set the world alight, but he is better than div2. Sign of a good payer is when he is not noticed on the pitch Douglass fits ito that bill as well. But this is only my opinion

The Marcus Bean thread

I find the attitude towards Marcus disturbing and uncomfortable. He is one of us from our season 3 years ago, winners and part of that history. For people to say don't want you now well why not say it then. It rubbishes our title season and makes it pointless. There has to be some BRENTFORD heart longevity to make it mean something. Further when people say he is not good enough for the championship, well we ain't there yet so how do you know. I believe some players who we cheered and felt emotional over are above this mindless get rid of philosophy.

Did not go to Preston but did not see his name mentioned in any reports. I saw him on the pitch at Orient and he was awful, showed no leadership to the younger players. To me he falls between 2 stalls, he is not a KOC or a Bean and he is not a Saunders or Forrester. Now we have Douglas would not bother me if Dave moved on. When I think back over the season I cannot think of any outstanding performances. Whilst he has one or two nice touches he drifts through too many games, does not dominate, and goes missing. Accept that we beg to differ but out of our midfield 2 out of KOC, Bean and Dave need to move on if we are to progress imo.

I bet when Grant Holt was turning out for Shrewsbury knowbody would have thought he'd cut it in the top flight...we may never know what of our own players can cut it in the higher divisions

The Marcus Bean thread

I'll be very sad when he goes. I think he balances out Dave in the midfield and is a real stopper who can break up play. Don't understand this tbh.

The Marcus Bean thread

We really will miss him, believe me

The Marcus Bean thread

it will be a mistake to let him go
breaks up play so well.
Why he gets so much stick is beyond me

The Marcus Bean thread

He should not have reacted in the way he did but Lewington fouled him then went down like Lewinsky trying to gain a free kick and get Bean sent off. That the ref also booked Lewington meant that he was not fooled.

I think it's a case of wanting to do better. IMO we need better than a tackler who has good and bad games if we are to get up a level.

The Marcus Bean thread

Very difficult, without doubt his tenacity has been missed at various times this season and I guess there is always a need for a player of his type

Hopefully we can find a similar style of player but with more ability. Guess a lot depends upon what is spent in the summer, if funds are available then a years contract might have merit, a useful guy to have in the squad. If however by giving a contract we miss out on say a Dean or Thompson then not money well spent

The Marcus Bean thread

We really won't miss him- believe me.

you can always find better but, there are a few others I would rather see the back of before Marcus..............

The Marcus Bean thread

He's just passed his UEFA B coaching qualification. Will probably make a good coach/manager one day. But not for quite sometime yet.
