The Marcus Bean thread

Although Bean isn't easy on the eye and has shortcomings I think a lot of people will only see his real value (if he leaves) when he turns out for an opponent.

Bean could go to Peterborough and people would still be saying 'we need better to get out of this division'.

The Marcus Bean thread

Do you know something we don't then?

No but consider this. Why would any Championship club be chasing a player who isn't a first choice in a League 1 team ? Same applies to any top 10 League 1 club which leaves League 2. I've no issue with Beanie's effort but that's all he's got and he's inconsistent with that too.

You really have a problem with him it seems.

Because they recognise a quality in him that will add to their squad in an area they are currently lacking....players don't come with neat little tags "Championship", "Div 1 only", "Good Div Two not Quite Div One Promotion chasing standard". If a championship club see's a need for an industrious midfielder who wins a lot of ball and breaks up opposition play regularly they may well have other midfielders who can do the things Bean can't and require him to complete the jigsaw.

Tell me when Bent, Gayle or Hunt were with us before going on to greater things at a much higher level did you look at them and think Premiership quality one day.... Now I'm not saying Beanie is as young or as talented as any of those were but the point I'm making is that I disagree with your logic in casting him as a Div 2 player only.

The Marcus Bean thread

If there's room for him within the budget and he doesn't mind being a squad player then fine. If not then he has to move on as it's his career and he needs security just like GA wanted.

I think you picked a bad comparison there with the three you chose as they all looked like Championship stuff and of course Marcus Gayle played there with us. I have to disagree with how you believe clubs assess players. It isn't as easy to break up play with players of a higher standard as usually they can look after themselves as well as play the ball. IMO Bean would struggle to do that at a higher level as the players would be too sharp and he might get unloaded himself in the physical stakes. Still it's all about opinion isn't it and if he ends up at a Championship club you will be right and I will be wrong. We shall see.

I honestly couldn't see Hunt playing in the premiership, yet he has proven me wrong.

The trouble is, as soon as a player is either a) gone or b) on the way out, beebopalula instantly sees them as not being good enough for our team. As if a player has never left Brentford and gone on to bigger and better things. It's a fairly arrogant attitude.

He may not be a part of what Uwe wants in his style of play, but there are going to be plenty of clubs at all levels that will subscribe to the pragmatic style of play, and where Marcus will flourish.

I agree, i think Beanie is a 20/25 game a season man, perhaps half of those apps from the bench. If we need him to play more than that then i doubt we will be a real contender next season unless Bean is more consistent than he has ever been.

Time will indeed tell:). He may well turn up next season at a Div 2 side who have loftier aspirations, he may well not be part of Uwe's plans for next season he may well turn up at another Div 1 side but I stand by my original point that it is not inconceivable that a Championship side such as Peterborough may express an interest in him.

The Marcus Bean thread

We didn't miss him before he came on, on Saturday. With Reeves hopefully coming through next season and possibly Forshaw I don't think we'll need him. He's been a good servant to the club and always gives 100% but Saturday showed we can win by outplaying the opposition not just outbattling them.

He will end up at Crawley.:D

I don't know what you're talking about . I have been pleased to see the back of Wood, GA,CM and Bean if he goes. That's cos I don't rate them as good enough to take us up a level. That's my opinion. I have noticed that a couple of posters don't like being challenged for their views and resort to being rude. Sorry you think I'm arrogant because I don't agree with you. Don't you think that makes it look like you think you are right all the time?

No, you are not being arrogant because you dont agree with me. You are being arrogant because any player that leaves Brentford is 'not good enough to take us to the next level'. You can't accept that players who leave may go on to clubs that are either as good as, or better than us.

The Marcus Bean thread

Bean is a good player who on current form deserves a new contract..he has his limitations as seen when he fell over the ball 3 times with his first touch...but he should be playing week in week out and i think he wont get that with us

For goodness sake I've seen many a player over the years leave us for better things. Again you call me arrogant. Totally unnecessary.

The Marcus Bean thread

The five who have started the last two games across midfield are all contracted to us next season. We are all hoping Reeves will feature again soon, if not Oyeleke; Uwe has confirmed he wants Forshaw back; we still have Kev to return and I think Dean would make a good holding midfielder. I like Bean but I could understand if he wants to try his luck elsewhere.

Stephen Hunt wasn't 1st choice for Allen's Bees.
...look at him now...

yes - I am likening Hunt to Bean in some ways

Didn't they fall out though? If you're in the playground picking your side and you can choose Bean or Hunt- who do you pick?:D

The Marcus Bean thread

I guess my problem with Bean is you might pick him if you don't want to lose a game but not necessarily if you have to win one. He's very one dimensional and perhaps we need more than that.

I'd pick Bean and tell the teacher that Hunt wrote "Allen is Gay" in the toilets

Very sensible and probably sums it up very well

The Marcus Bean thread

The time you need a Bean is when confidence is low and the flowing football aint flowing and you're looking for players to stand up and be counted. We'll surely find periods like that in any season. The point is can we afford to pay for a player to undertake that role. If he goes we'll certainly miss him during those periods let me tell you

Hopefully we can find a mid player who can play AND put his foot in.

and be good in the air and stay relatively injury free and be a model professional hmm hope you're paying

I'd hope the last is a given, the first would be nice but not essential. Injuries, well? Have faith, we got Douglas.

The Marcus Bean thread

Let's pretend for a moment that we got another midfielder in the summer like Jon Douglas - perhaps with one or two more goals in him and maybe one who shouted a bit more. That would be better than Bean wouldn't it surely?

IMO we need a footballer who can give us consistency in a game and between games as well as a goal or two. If the going rate is too high , then we'll have to make do but I trust we won't be hearing complaints about failing to bring in a mid player. Hopefully we can pull it off within our means.

hasnt Douglas been ever present and consistent all season ? Maybe his recent better form coincides with Uwes new midfield taking some of the burden off him ? IE ,Forrester and Saunders making tackles ,unlike McGinn ??

..............looked like he enjoyed his goal.............

The Marcus Bean thread

Bean showed why he is needed next season, a goal, covered so much of the pitch, battled for everything, got stuck it, he had it all in that first half.

OK it's all about opinions but:confused:

The Marcus Bean thread

Not Bean's fault he got pushed out to the left wing. Before that he played very well.

The Marcus Bean thread

Good solid performance fom Beanie
Love his fight and commitment
Good too see him back on the scoresheet
Always acknowledges the crowd just before kick off when the pele song is being sung :)
Guess he was injured as he didn't sit on the bench walked down the tunnel shortly after the came off

Noticed that once he went off we were a lot deeper and their midfield seemed to have more time on the ball..he does a lot of closing down /pressure on the other team which can go unnoticed pleased he got the goal .he will be missed if he goes

The Marcus Bean thread

He did alright.... got a goal, but that doesn't make a performance.

I thought he headed it but the Sky Sports News highlights suggest...thigh?

Made a few good tackles but I've seen him do better, and I've seen him do worse. Didn't change his position with the club here imo.

He's not bad, but we can get better is still where I stand. If he leaves I would wish him all the best though.

Currently carrying an injury - playing through the pain barrier for the team - add that to the list.

The Marcus Bean thread

Oh and 'good engine' bags of energy

The Marcus Bean thread

Oh... and as shown last night ...reliably follows tactical instructions given to him by his manager

The Marcus Bean thread

Are you Marcus?

Don't tell me, you wish Sam Wood was playing too, alongside our other 100%'ers..... Sometimes you need a little more to go with the efforts and blood and thunder. I like Bean, but it depends if he's prepared to be a squad player and to only get a years contract, when maybe a two year deal is offered by a club like Wycombe, Gillingham or Southend.
