The 'Reds'

When did we become the 'Reds'?
'Come on you reds' As a fairly generic chant is fine. But the Brook Road banner and people referring to us as 'the reds' doesn't feel right at all.
We are the Bees or just plain old Brentford surely?

Am I just being a miserable git?

Nah I'm a little funny with us being called 'the reds', because we don't play in red! While red is probably out primary colour I get the impression it's in the chants purely because 'red and whites' doesn't fit.

As a result I don't mind it in chants but I agree it shouldn't be written elsewhere really as that can't really be used as a reason.

I know what you mean - we were always the Bees but as you say, over recent years we have moved towards both names. I still call them the Bees, but I guess that time moves on and things evolve. Man U have always, for me, been United, but there are plenty of official supporters clubs that call themselves The 'something' Reds. You know, Surbiton, Torquay, Antananarivo....

We've been singing Come On You Reds since at least the 71-72 season. FACT!

In fact it may be one of our longest and most enduring chants

We play in Red & White stripes. Man U are associated with the "Reds". Therefore I think it's either "You Stripes" or "You Whites". I prefer "Come on you Whites".

like you say, as a chant or a massive 'you reeeeeeds' shout, its fine. But to see it written down looks weird.

This needs to come from the fans. WE need to be chanting this from all three sides on Saturday. I'll lead in New Road. Need some volunteers in Ealing Rd & Braemar. We can make this happen!!! COYW

Sunderland, who have bestowed upon themselves the privilege of wearing red and white stripes are the "Black Cats" and Exeter City, similarly advantaged, are the "Grecians".

Things are so great at the moment people just have to come up with stupid things to discuss otherwise it just gets boring saying how great things are - I think!

Presumably it's like the England tournament (Euro 96/France 98?) when Shearer and Co. had a running bet to see who could name the most song titles in each TV interview they gave. Cue "Winner Takes It All" etc. etc. Funny the first couple of times, then....

Perhaps "Red & Whites - with some Black as well in some seasons" which is rather catchy, I think.

On second thoughts , let's just stick with Bees.

Ok, the joke has now done its course, but if continued it could backfire and result in our club being more regularly known as 'The Reds' by new supporters that have been attracted to us this season.

We really must promote our famous, traditional Bees trademark and insist that:

1. Any large 'official' flags calling us 'Reds' be modified immediately.

2. Any singing during matches (starting on on Saturday) must focus on our Bees songs and the chant should be COYB rather than COYR.

3. Anyone not following this agenda should be forced to recite 3 'Hail Fulhams'
