Believe me that ain't anything to laugh at. I went from 5ft 7 to 6ft 1 in just over a year at 16 to 17 and the back pain in particular was absolutely immense. The pain of having to keep buying new clothes was almost as bad.

Believe me that ain't anything to laugh at. I went from 5ft 7 to 6ft 1 in just over a year at 16 to 17 and the back pain in particular was absolutely immense. The pain of having to keep buying new clothes was lamost as bad.
I was 6ft 3 at 12 with size 13 feet.:sad: I was always pulling hamstrings and had disc trouble at 15 and there ended a life at sports. I have managed to pass it all to my son and his muscles aren't big enough for his bones so he has to be careful in all that he does, I suppose times have changed and they actually tell you the dos and don'ts now but quick growing isn't all that fun.
I had a hairy ballbag at primary school and everyone took the piss, then they took the piss out of the only one who didn't have any at secondary school!

We need a striker for **** sake !!! not another bloody defender , what awaste of club funds !! There are enough players who could fill that full back position at the club, and he wonders why we struggle to score more goals !

Could be, but I got the impression his priority was to find a centre forward rather than a replacement for Emmanuel, as Darius Charles and Kev were mentioned as viable options for the foreseeable.

As I repeat time and time again good centre forwards are not that easy to come by, they tend to be wanted where they are. Its' easy to go and get the next Wiijnaard, but that's not what we want.
I'm sure some oin here would cream their pants when a Cf is signed, then when he turns out to be another Onion Bhaji. It will be "Butcher out" calls.
I'd prefer to wait for the better option to become available and hope that Ide, Connell & Thorpe ( who are all better than the 2 above) hit some better form together.

Gees - if you lot moaning got your way and we spent all available funds on a striker you would no doubt moan when he scores a hat trick yet we lose games 3-4 due to a dodgy defence - its about balance guys

Signed for a Div One team but I suspect Simon Church from Reading was a big loss to us.

...all very true I'm sure, but my post was about how this signing seems to contradict what was reported in yesterday's Chronny - not about the difficulties around finding and signing a decent striker.
Hopefully this bloke is the last "non striker" TB will need to search out, because it all eats into the time spent away from the biggest task of all.
Lets also hope Ryan isnt costing any money because the search for a decent CF is going to be an even harder task with less dosh to spend on wages.

I heard and saw only good things about Ryan Dickson following his time at Torquay last year.
He'll fit into that left wing role VERY nicely!

He's not a left back.. He's a left winger who can play there if needed ala Adrian Pettigrew playing in the centre of midfield. He's in the Steve Hunt/Ryan Giggs mould, He'll get the ball and run with it.

Of that lot only Rhodes would have been available to us. But he's an unproven 17 year old.
Foran was signed for £200k by Southend and would no doubt be costing Darlington a tidy sum. He's also been so poor at Southend he has hardly played a game up front and is looked upon as a wide midfield player.
Akinfenwa has been injured and has not played since last season and probably not worth the risk at the price he no doubt wants and has gone to a league 1 club as has Church. Which is why I said what league 2 side has signed a forward good enough for us.

I think if we had offered Church a three month loan deal, Reading MAY have been prepared to let him go to get some first team experience. I do think Butcher is a bit stuck for ideas and all the ideas he does seem to have revolve around Ipswich's reserves!
I do still think that Butcher is holding back on signing a striker permanently in January as he is known to be keen on that Nwokeji fella from Staines but, they want a fee and we can't afford it. Of course, Mr Dyke could actually dip into his pocket just this once...oh no, sorry, he is a 'figurehead' who goes on TV shows prancing round giving people advice how to run a buisness! Practice what you preach Greg!

If our current forwards could get into a run of form the pressure would certainly be off TB. However, he himself acknowledges that a CF is a priority and that he needs to sort one out.
Of course no one wants a striker signed for the sake of signing a striker but the "wait for a better option" is a dangerous game to play and, I would argue, the reason for disasterous signings like OnionBhaji and Cylde last season were because it suddenly dawned on management that "no better option" was available and they were forced to go for it.
How long should TB wait for these supposed "better options" to come along?

We have only signed Moore from Ipswich.
The rest has been speculation so far. Although it is good to have contact with a club that is producing lot's of good youngsters.Church was never going to go anywhere below league 1 level imho.
Dyke has put £100k in, which I assume is a lot more than many. Anyway if anyone dips in their pocket and LOANS us some more money, our debt increases, which is not a good way of running a business. Or are you expecting a gift?
