id like to say now there is no way a southerner would move up to the north east to play in the bottom division when a team in an equal position is in for him, its horrible up there (unless the wages are astronomical then Darlo are mugs)

I'll take 7th with 2 - 3 games in hand thanks, if that's sh*t, then yes we're sh*t. Just a shame you couldn't be as sh*t as us eh?

But yes....to clarify, rumours up here are that he's on his way back down to Brentford to sign for you. Seems his agent had a lot to say in this one.

I suggested that we are slightly sh*tter than the worst team in the North East for the first time in living memory.

Unless you include Jossy's Giants or Blythe Spartans I suppose.

Cute. The sooner we get out of this sh*t league the better, god knows we've been stupidly close on numerous occasions. We're looking good this season though. We were 2nd up until Christmas when we had a tough run of games and postponements...and if we win those games in hand we're back up to 2nd.

Either way.... I just thought I'd let you guys know that he's as good as yours.

The bloke this comes from is a pretty reliable source up here, he used to release who was going to be playing on Friday night / Saturday morning when we had a manager that liked to rotate at every given opportunity.

Sadly not! It's no secret that we're looking to strengthen down the left hand side though, what with Martin Smith just returning from a long term injury.

Penney's no mug though, the players he's brought in so far have been excellent, experienced campaigners who know how to get out of this league. Our defence being our major strong point.

For the past year and a half our strong point has been being sh*t. hopefully we are on the up now, and dickson is going to sign for us. he will become a legend, scoring a playoff final goal to send us back in to league one.
And then be bought for a million quid next year by qpr, where he will turn poo and score an own goal to relegate them.
He will then be released, come back to brentford, and score a playoff final goal to send us up to the championship.

Tks for the info & I naturally hope that you are right as imo Dickson is an excellent prospect especially at left back. I'm sure that you won't worry too much about the banter above - they're all decent blokes really!!

For my part, I wish you luck - although naturally not at our expense. It's hard being a lower division supporter & after your Reynolds debacle it's good to see you are recovering & at least you've got a decent ground out of it. From a distance it seems a pity that you can't fill it - that's not a dig btw - as you seem to be putting it together on the field. Perhaps promotion would add a few thousand & with a bit more success - who knows?

Is he classed as a left midfielder then? Because there were rumblings that he played as left back for you lot. We've just signed Paul Mayo (albeit only on a months loan to play left back - and to me that says 'stopgap') but I wondered whether Penney had him in mind as a left back, or left midfielder.

Either way we need to strengthen down the left!

Thanks, we appreciate it! Yeah...the stadium, although it has fantastic facilities, is a bit of a burdon in how much it costs to run, our break even figure (attendance wise) has been noted at about 5,000 and even with our good run and performances, people are unwilling to turn up in their numbers to support the team siting price (even though we are competively priced compared to other league 2 clubs at £15 on the day, and £13 - £14 beforehand) and lack of atmosphere as their major reasons.

We're in a bit of a catch 22 situation really, we can't generate much of an atmosphere without fans, and fans dont want to come because of the atmosphere.....can't win really!

Can play left wing & started there for us against yourselves I believe.

However, he was recently switched to left back & looks really good there imo.

That's a good deal on prices - hopefully a sustained spell of success on the field will up the attendances. It's difficult to attract fans in Div 2 but if you get up you could have the benefit of the occasional well-supported away teams as well - eg: this year Leeds, Notts F, who are also not too far way geographically - & you could definitely fit them in!! We would have a problem doing that at GP.

Unfortunately, of course, they may not be around next year. But who knows???

We got Leeds this year in the second round of the Paint Pot Trophy and the numbers they bought with them was unreal. It was a fantastic sight to see, especially for the first round of a meaningless trophy being broadcast live on Sky!

Bit of an update, Penney had this to say this morning:

"One of them has been up to the club, agreed terms and had a medical but we'll have to wait and see because there are a couple of clubs in for him and I'm sure he's done the same at the other clubs.

"We've tried to sell the club to him as best we can, it's up to him where he goes now.

"I know for a fact that one of the offers we've made is more money than another club has offered, but the player is still thinking about it and our location is one of the things he has to think about."

It's quite obvious he's talking about Dickson, and I think we've offered more money than yourselves (just taking a guess here) but he's unwilling to uproot and move to the other end of the country, so Brentford maybe the best option for him.

I hope this doesn't turn into another Jason Price scenario. I remember the wild goal celebrations I think at Reading away, and then the next minute he pi**ed off to Tranmere.

I have a good feeling though that Ryan may go more with his heart than his wallet. He's young enough to do what is right for his career rather than trying to cash in at this stage. I hope I'm right as I agree with others that he could be a very important piece of our hopefully improving jigsaw.

He plays a brilliant overlap with Poole on the left and I really hope he decides that Brentford is the place to stay. I'm sure he knows how much we appreciate him as he always gets applause and cheers on the pitch, so hopefully he'll choose us.
