...........a bit of a shame that Terry Butcher doesn't put anything on the O/S, but is quite prepared to air his views in other local media, which is probably adequate for locals, but not to those of us living outside the catchment area........

I'm sure you haven't missed anything thanks to the valuable public service provided by the GPG. ;)

He had many superb matches for us and made some seemingly impossible saves but he never showed the consistency of a McKellar or a Smith.

I also remember that horror patch in mid 2001-2 where his lack of judgment cost us matches against Wigan and Northampton.

This is not to slag him off as he was mainly excellent but in my opinion not as good as you suggested.

I guess it's personal opinions again, NLB. I'm with you on McKellar (tho' I do recall that fans at some of his other clubs didn't rate him at all) but I reckoned Oli was a better allround keeper than Smith - both excellent shot stoppers, but Oli definitely had it in the command of the air in his box. I do recall his couple of misjudgements but I also seem to remember that on at least one of those occasions he's an injury (was it a hamstring problem). Against that, I also remember Smithy's awful clanger in the playoff game (Huddersfield?) when he let a simple shot slip through his gloves at head height. Fortunately, it didn't cost us the match..

Doesnt mean we should have to put up with total sh*t! If simon brown or chris day are the best we can do then bring back nelson!

I agree. IMHO Nelson is not only a knobhead but much better than these two. Would also be happy with Abbey, but draw the line at Bankole. (I've seen them all since Gerry Cakebread - SH*T I've just remembered Fred Ryecraft !!! Nurse, where's my medication ?....).

The Simon Brown thread

It's not pleasant reading but the sh*t I took when I told people up here that Abbey was ours was plentiful. He didn't work out too bad and bearing in mind we had/have a few on here who thought/think Brooker can play, maybe not best to get too excited just yet.

The Simon Brown thread

Oh my Buddha ! This is madness. Surely we can do better than "Gaffe after Gaffe"?

Masters will need to get his act together PDQ.

Masters hasn't signed on for next year yet

How can Brown be training with Brentford, we ain't training yet!!??

The Simon Brown thread

"Brown would be the second goalkeeper to join Brentford from Hibs, Oli Gottskalksson joined the English club from Hibees.

Brentford seem to have a knack of taking our dodgy keepers, any chance they are looking for a Polish one as well??"

Thats taken from Hibs website...Are they having a laugh Oli was a legend!!!

One of the best keepers i've seen at GP (bear in mind im 21). Before i get trounced with he made c*ck up remarks, just remember all players make mistakes only goalkeepers get noticed more!!!

local media ?

it's an on-line newspaper.....should be available over the world (except China)

..................missed the point, Smiffy...........why does he air his views on 'thisisLOCALLondon' or whatever it is called, (and found only because of a link to it here on the GPG) rather than the O/S.....?

The O/S has never been in the habit of repeating tales from local media outlets...
Butcher was probably asked for "a few words" and gave them.

I'd say quite a few people at the club were on holiday at the moment, and things (e-media style) will pick up during July.

The statements in the "interview" were hardly groundbreaking anyway...

...................not asking for the O/S to 'repeat' tales from other media.....maybe being the source of information might be a new adventure for those operating the O/S......hopefully TB hasn't immediately gone on holiday as soon as he got his feet under the table (although that could possibly explain the lack of transfer activity), there's a squad he needs to assemble, and fairly pronto too.............

.......and whether the statements were groundbreaking or not, the fact remains that 'thisislocallondon' has more from him than the O/S has recently.........

Some of the "This Local London" interview was taken from the GPG anyway.

I would agree with you, I rated Oli highly so hopefully their judgement is true !!!!

Hiya guys Hibs fan here.

Sorry to invade your site.

Brown is pretty bad to be honest, he has made so many mistakes it's unreal. he's pish.

He was a decent shot stopper, but he's too fat and prone to mistakes in big games.

Plus he spoke out against St JC, so he's went down imo.

He may be good for Brentford, but i doubt it. He's abit of a lazt bastart.

Here is a video.

http://youtube.com/watch?v=n19izAwuVgA

There's more vids but i can't find them on youtube.

I wish you all the best. I hope you don't sign him. If you do, good luck to him.

Good luck for the rst of the season. You'll need it if he signs for you.:(

Welcome mate.

He looks a bit Ashley Bayes esq in that clip..

He'll do well enough for us should he sign, He proved he is capable of playing at our sort of level whilst with Colchester.

Make him first choice keeper and he'll do well for us, cutting out those errors which come when your in and out of the side.

The Simon Brown thread

Just wathed Brown in action against Rangers and his schoolboy gaffs
**** him , lets get Abbey back asap

Well i hope he does well for you if he signs.

He pulls of some good saves sometimes but he'l then go do something stupid.

He once, in an Edinburgh derby, put his hands up to say the ball was going wide, when it was crossed in and it went straight past him into the bottom corner.

The Simon Brown thread

I am not convinced by the prospect of Brown.

There is a little part of me that wishes that we would sign Ashley Bayes on trial and give him the chance to redeem himself with the Bees - you know what, I bet he would do a decent job !

The Simon Brown thread

what was your opinion of Oli Gottskalksson

When he played for us he was mince.

We have only had two good goalies, Daniel Anderson & Nick Colgan, in the last 10 years or so.

That was after a period of having such keepers as Andy Goram & Jim Leighton.

So i suppose whoever replaced Leighton was on a hiding to nothing.

The Simon Brown thread

I like mince if it's cooked properly but my missus hates it so I can't help you Smiffy.

The Simon Brown thread

I am no great fan of Nelson, but Brown does not look to be any improvement in the goalkeeping department

The Simon Brown thread

My Point exactly Oli was a very good goalkeeper for us!
If Brown doesn't play every week he will make mistakes! Goalkeepers need a run in a side to gain confidence and also so they learn to work with their back four!

He played every week for a whole season and wasn't good enough, he lost his place to a Polish keeper, Malkoswki and HE isn't a goalkeeper, he really is terrible.

Brown got back in and blew it badly.

The Scottish Sun had a thing in the paper, counting the gaffs Hibs goalkeepers had cost us re points, this season, and they worked out it added upto 17 points. Which basically cost us a European place.

All three keepers we have tried this season have been a joke tbh.

Im not saying he won't work out down at Brentford, he may well do and good luck to him.

The Simon Brown thread

Given all this worrying information from Hibs fans maybe I really SHOULD start a "Welcome Home Ashley" thread !!

Who else would be in favour?

May as well.

He's just left Grays and Exeter opted against making him player coach, So there's every chance.. ;)

The Simon Brown thread

so is this Brown guy coming to GP or not ?

The Simon Brown thread

Oh dear - just watched the Rangers Vid...

I guess we'll just have to make sure we don't give away any freekicks!!

The Simon Brown thread

I suspect he will be out of the Paul McCullough and Alan Julian school of goalkeeping rather than the McKellar or Benstead (circa 1991)

Dear oh dear indeed.

Mind you Nelson was prone to the odd gaffe

Soton Away and Gillingham at home spring to mind.

The Simon Brown thread

Does anyone know of a goalkeeper that hasn't made a mistake ?

The Simon Brown thread

So if we are still in the hunt for a decent keeper - has Nathan Abbey fixed himself up with a club yet?:fishing:

The Simon Brown thread

All i've heard this week is pending a medical our third signing of the close season will be made, how long does it take to have a medical.

The Simon Brown thread

This is likely of course to be TB's signing, and he does worry me in that dept.He only has rusty knowledge of crap Scots players.I have much more confidence on players that I assume we are going to be signing from lower league English leagues recommended and scouted by AS.
