I think it's a joke that it looks like were signing this fool instead of Abbey (Who was excellent in his spell with us last year). I bet Abbey was on less wages aswell.

I believe he made some howlers in big games?Hibs finished third?Would Hibs beat most Championship sides?I think so,were in league 3.He should be more than adequate imho

I think he'll be ok. We were never going to get a keeper that never made mistakes, especially at league 2. Looking at other keepers in this league, most of them are real pants.

Just put the phone down to Hibs fan in East Kilbride and his asessment was …
“Great first season and a very good keeper who seemed to lose his confidence and was in and out of the team last year. He had 2 mares, one against Rangers and one in the Hibs v Hearts derby and is unkindly remembered for those. A big bloke who seems to carry a bit too much weight but he is sorry to see him go and thinks we have done well.”
He also said that Oli Gott was crap but I thought I’d post his thoughts as it is always about opinions.

All in all i'd be suprised if he doesn't do well for us. He'll be one of the most experienced keepers in the league next season and must have been doing something right to be the number one for Hibs for 2 year pretty much.

Completely fresh start, thats why I was surprised we offered a deal to Rhodes but I'm not disappointed he won't be staying.

Abbey was known as a comedy figure before we saw him play. Have a search for some of the posts when we had him on trial this time last year. You're posting based on what fans of another club have said, not based on what you know of the guy. Give him a chance. Every player we sign is a reject of one sort or another. This kind of negative rubbish is all over the site at the moment and it's not neccessary.

Hopefully we can get rid of Heywood and get a pacey central defender along side Mackie. If so a back four with O'Connor, Mackie and Frampton making up the other three with Charles and Osbourne backing them up could be good for league 2. I know O'Connor and Frampton are hated by some on this board, but if Butcher can get them playing with fight and confidence thats should be solid at least.

If supporters of some of the many clubs that Nathan Abbey has played for in his career were asked for their opinion, I suspect they'd crucify him as a complete joke of a keeper.
Players can only be judged on what they achieve at each club, so like all new signings, Simon Brown starts with a clean sheet and good luck to him.

I take your point, but look at Winterburn Bould Adams and Dixon. Not a great deal of pace there (I know I'm really not comparing like for like), but at this level, with a man of Butchers experience, then maybe we'll see an extremely organised defence.
Expect the kit man to start ironing the right sleeve of the back four's shirts in an upward direction.

The offside rule has changed slightly since those days and with non-active players allowed to become active, pace is far more relevant than 4 defenders with their hands up appealing.

At this level though, if the forwards are quick they cant finish and if they can finish, they'll be as slow as shipperley
So how would anyone know if they can finish if they are too slow to do so?

As much as I hoped it would work out for the best........the only thing Shipps could finish at Brentford were the pies !

This numpty let in countless direct free kicks in important games - Gazza FA cup semi-final, European Championship with Graham Taylor in charge, World cup against Germany at Wembley, World cup against Brazil, plus many others but I'm getting bored and this has nothing to do with Brown.......
I want Brown to succeed, but based on what information is available, I'm not comfortable we've let Nelson and Abbey go to have him step into their shoes.... that's all.
