The Simon Brown thread

Heard from a mate that Simon Brown (Hibernian goalkeeper) has been talking with Brentford about a possible move. How do i know? My mate was talking with him at a wedding in Scotland last week.:)

Initially I am doubtful, as this would mean two S Browns (both keepers) at the club.

This is against FIFA rules

Born in Essex apparently......so maybe looking for a move south ?

31 years old , Hibs have released him allegedly.

The Simon Brown thread

Didn't we get Oli Gott from Hibs? If so, that would be a hopeful precedent, though if he has other offers it would surprise me if a broke Lge 2 club could compete with a middling Scottish Prem club (but if he has no other offers, it would be different)

The Simon Brown thread

Yes he is free - released in June.

The Simon Brown thread

Ex Spurs and Colchester keeper where he competerd with Andy Woodman.

Reasonable keeper but a bit unreliable

The Simon Brown thread

Wasn't this rumoured before when we let Abbey and Nellie go...doesn't he want to come South and continue his part time education or something??

:nono:

Infraction time for NLB for mentioning the above named piece of sh*t !

Had his testimonial within earshot up here recently.

Do you know why he left/had to leave Northampton?lol

Woodman was there for a year compared to 5 by Brown and although they were there at the same time Brown was injured for large part of their stay together and was the reason Woodman was signed originally.

please don't use the word GOALIE ever again

sounds like a good goalie..... good luck tel~ up the bees

The Simon Brown thread

Well we broke FIFA rules to have two Scott Fitzgeralds, after all, never mind two Dean Williamses.
And on a number of occasions last season we fielded a whole team featuring A.N. Onymous.

In fact, around the time of Billy Stagg (mentioned on another thread) didn't we have four (three) Smiths, two of whom had the same Christian name?

Been reading some shocking comments bout him by hibs fans, sounds like an overweight clown by all accounts! Lets hope we can find a better keeper than this!!!!

We are a 4th Division club, get used to it.

He was the reserve keeper for an SPL side. So he can't be that bad. I'm sure Terry butcher will know him well and if he rates him and we can fix up a deal. I for one would welcome a player of this type. As a previous poster has said ......we are a 4th division side now :(

The Simon Brown thread

I recall that Hibs fans didn't rate Oli and he was superb for us.

I don't quite remember Oli through those rose tinted glasses.

He had many superb matches for us and made some seemingly impossible saves but he never showed the consistency of a McKellar or a Smith.

I also remember that horror patch in mid 2001-2 where his lack of judgment cost us matches against Wigan and Northampton.

This is not to slag him off as he was mainly excellent but in my opinion not as good as you suggested.

From what I gather Brown also blows hot and very very cold

I worked with Simon Brown whilst I was at Reusch, we supplied him gloves and if I recall he was under study to Ian Walker whilst at Tottenham at the time.

I say 'as I recall' because it was a long time ago and that just shows you how old he is!

He was tipped to do quite well, although my mate who worked with me at the time (An home and away Hibs fan) has just phoned me to say that the bloke is a liability and the Hibs fans are glad to see the back of him!

He would have slotted in seamlessly to last seasons team then.

Doesnt mean we should have to put up with total sh*t! If simon brown or chris day are the best we can do then bring back nelson!

Yeah, why not. Why not go the whole hog and bring back Willock,Griffiths, Pinault and maybe persuade Shipperly the pie man to come back to us

So tell me about Simon Brown then.

Well im only going on what i read from hibs fans who watch him every week say and basically he's unfit, clanger prone and a disruptive influence in the dressing room. Dont get me wrong if we did sign him he'd get my full support but if any other club who wer unfortunate enough to sign Wijnard or onibuje read what people on here have said about them then i would fully expect them to show concern to.

When Brown left he slagged off the manager John Collins who is a Hibs legend. I was talking to a few die hard Scottish football fans yesterday and it's no surprise that the Hibs fan couldn't stand him because of it but the non-Hibs ones seem to think he was ok without being outstanding. An average Scot Prem keeper will be a lot better than Stuart Nelson.

If you want a Brentford parallel think Martin Rowlands.

I know nothing more than the next man about Brown. Day is good enough to play for us IMO but is unwelcome for other reasons.

Sounds familiar....so Nelson mark 2 it is then..

Lots in this so it's going in a few threads. Quotes from Butcher confirming interest in Brown. I assume Flood asked him after reading this thread

...........a bit of a shame that Terry Butcher doesn't put anything on the O/S, but is quite prepared to air his views in other local media, which is probably adequate for locals, but not to those of us living outside the catchment area........
