The Simon Brown thread

I posted in similar vein on the Rochdale reports thread and I am repeating myself in saying that INHMO Brown is the worst 'keeper I have seen in a Bees Jersey.
I also wonder what level of 'keeper training is given. In the warm up SM just seems to stand and watch Brown and Hamer punt the ball to each other, even Stannard used to get more involved in the pre-match warm up last season.

Clearly not been coming to GP as long as I have then

Bees 'keeper when I saw my first game at Griffin Park was Alf Jefferies !

Well if you've been watching for about 60 years that makes your comment all the more ridiculous! did you not see ashley bayes, bill glazier, peter borota .... stuart nelson:fishing: ?

Football is all about opinions, I have mine and I don't take kindly to having comments referred to as ridiculous.
Incidentally it's only 56 years that I've been coming to GP ! ! And I've seen all the 'keepers

Brown is crap !! end of . never looks safe to me unless the opposition decide not to shoot on goal

He is a cross between Andy Woodman , The flying pig...with a bit of Kevin Pressman fatness thrown in . lol

Is that geezer still playing in goal for Staines ??? He would be a lot better and i dare say not on the same sot of dough as the Brown one.

The Simon Brown thread

......not me.....................he made a good one handed stop early on and then..........oops its slipped through his hands....grrrr.........ought he have done better with the wall for the free kick???.............although it was a peach of a strike..................

Wouldn't argue with any of that. I'd play Hamer in the remaining 2 games - what will Scott learn from playing Brown in them?

BTW: Did anyone see Masters' howler yesterday? Thank goodness he's not still in the equation!

The Simon Brown thread

I could not get my head round that first goal yesterday !!!!!!

What the **** was he doing ??? We must get a decent keeper for next season, i cant see us signing Hamer.
Brown is a CLOWN , got to get rid of, SHARPISH !

Saw the goal on the championship this morning.

What a complete and utter W****R. Time to go Brown

I wouldn't call him a W****R or a C**T (nor would you to his face).

He is however an average at best keeper who is prone to a few of 'those'.

No need to slag the guy off, he's probably doing his best....blame the complete idiotic, who signed him, and the incompetent fool who employed him.

The Simon Brown thread

Its not really gone for him since he joined us, getting injured, Hamer coming in, then a few unconvincing diplsays means the crowd have got onto him.

You don't judge him on a day like yesterday but I do feel you can see his confidence has gone....pretty vital for a keeper...and a new start elesewhere would be best all round. I can't see he will ever bring the Ealing Rd crowd back on his side and to be honest that's pretty much curtains for any keeper..

The Simon Brown thread

Looks more indecisive with evey performance.
He's obviously lost confidence & is struggling behind a back 4 that are are less than solid themselves.
He can make great saves, but then the next minute balls it up.
He's far from the worst GK I've seen playing for the Bees but at the moment is struggling. I can't see how he can play next season, but look at Heywood so anything's possible.

Good old Paddy .........The diference then was we usually has scored 2 0r 3 already.......With the likes of Hurlock , Kamara , Bowles , Joseph , Roberts , Mahoney in the side. Got me thinking now....I wonder how many games we lost 1-0 back then , i bet it wasn't many.

Mr Scott,

I like you but we can fall out and we will if you continue to play this very bad custodian of the net whilst expecting us to turn up and support our team. A small piece of advice would be to drop him and play someone else, it's not science of the rocket variety but it is basic common sense.

If I can be of further help please do not hesitate to contact me.

Many Thanks,

NB

I know I am quoting myself from my post of 3rd April but my comments do not have seemed to have provoked reaction from anyone.
In the light of yet further 'keeper errors on Saturday,is there anyone who has any opinions on 'keeper training now ?

well said. nobody goes out to make mistakes.

even decent keepers (and i'm not saying he is...) make mistakes - ask jens.

problem is we are a broke club in division two and cannot keep paying players or managers off - especially those who nobody else will want. it will be another £50 grand down the drain.

and remember, we are (probably) still paying TB off as well as a few others....

Doesn't really matter what training and warm up exercises you carry out before the game, you really cannot make allowances for a mistake like Brown made on Saturday.

It was a pure lack of concentration and I suspect he was mentally deciding who he was going to throw the ball to once he had caught it - it was all too easy.

He gets paid to do a job and I contribute to those wages. I told him what I thought of him on Saturday as I feel I'm entitled to do and if he doesn't like it he can find a job elsewhere. I accept that there will be players of less ability at this level but incomepetency like that is just unacceptable and Sunday League stuff whether it's an end of season knockabout or not.

Well said, it wasn't just the obvious mistake though. Every ball that went into our box had a keeper who took five steps forward and planted himself in no mans land, his confidence may have gone but I don't think he would be any good with his confidence restored. Simon Brown just simply tests the bowel movement of all that follow BFC.

The Simon Brown thread

I seriously hope not as he has secured himself another job.

All contract terminations settled since last November have been by negotiated lump sum payments and all accepted and received less than their contractual entitlement including Terry Butcher.

Nobody who has been released/terminated is on the current payroll by way of extended contract termination payments.

It certainly does matter what training and warm up exercises are carried out before a game both for 'keepers and outfield players.
Any coaching manual will tell you that the purpose of a warm up is not only to warm up the muscles but to improve focus on the game ahead.

Having seen the Cock Up for the First Goal on the Championship, I repeat what I have said all season, If we are serious about going for Promotion next season we need a decent keeper. Brown is not up to it IMO Having said that I believe he is on a 2 year contract, Don`t pay him off but use him as cover and we would save on the wages of getting someone in on Loan just to sit on the bench as we are doing now with Hamer.

Is Brown studying at university part time? or have I got that totally wrong?

Totally wrong, that was another pre season target Stillie, who plays for Gillingham now.

ok not staged payments i stand corrected. thank you. but never the less money out of the kitty - or, in our case, the over-draft.

Doesn't have to be as we saved some by going without an assistant manager for a few months. Plus the overall package until the end of next season for Scott & Bullivant, maybe somewhat less for the same period had it been Butcher & Scott.

That's the one for me. If no one wants to buy him off us, we shouldn't get rid by pay-off. He's ok for a 2nd choice, but for crying out loud get Hamer or someone else in as first choice as at least Hamer's young enough to improve.

id rather at least try and ship him out-his wages are too much to be wasted on a subsitute and could be put to better use.

we need to sign a quality first choice and then seb brown can be cover-if the first choice gets injured then bring someone in on loan

Pay offs mean we don't need to pay National Insurance and often the player will take less than owed as they're receiving the amount in one go so we could squeeze another young player out of getting rid of Brown rather than keeping him on the bench.

Iv heard rumours that Hamer has turned reading's first offer, but sitting on the bench here is frustrating him and other clubs are interested. Real shame as i think had we treated him in the right way we could have a player of real quality on our books.

I've heard rumours that Hamer enjoys sitting on the bench, getting a masterclass in keeping from Simon Brown, and a masterclass in porn from Lanre Oyebanjo, during games.
I think this is a real shame, as if we had treated him to a few more first team games we would be in a UEFA Cup spot by now....I mean, look at Cardiff FFS :banghead:

The Simon Brown thread

Dont really see what your getting at, yes iv stated the obvious that he doesnt like sitting on the bench but id say the news he turned down a new offer from reading may suggest he is available in the summer is something people might want to hear
