Stanley said:Its because of the greed of Premiership clubs that we, as for most Nationwide clubs, are in the sh*te, hence yes it is funny when they fall into the abyss they have created.
This season is not over yet. It could still be a joke but there's still time for either a tragedy, a feel good story, a thriller or a horror story.Led Zeppelin said:Maybe so but at the end of it all Brentford ARE the joke.
California Bee said:That kind of schadenfreud should be reserved for Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool and especially Manchester United.
Stanley said:Well someone correct me if I'm wrong but the original "breakaway five" were Arsenal, Manu, Liverpool, Everton and Spurs.
I blame them all.
California Bee said:My point is that Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool and especially Manchester United have used their money to dominate the game for the past 25 years.
Carri Bee Un said:and because Spurs have used their money disastrously they're alright?
All of them must burn. A curse on all their houses.

California Bee said:For whatever reason the others have wreaked more harm. Anyway, we're not warlocks so our curses would not be effective

Dalglish from Celtic to Liverpool, Cantona from Leeds and Cole fom Newcastle to Man U come immediately to mind, not to mention Ferguson the manager from Aberdeen.Carl Super-Hooper said:I don't remember Liverpool spending much money in the eighties to "dominate" the game... and I don't recall Man U in the early nineties spending a shed load on Beckham / Scholes / Giggs / Neville / Butt either.

In the case of today's Liverpool they have spent over £100m and ending up with their worst team in ages.
CJC said:Liverpool were a class act and Man U and Arsenal are now, there's no doubting that it's just the greed that puts people off.

Spurs are always good for a laugh. They aren't many teams around with a bigger delusional sense of being a big club! If they went down i would laugh all summer![]()

Dan the Bee said:history counts for a lot. but for the past ten years or so, spurs have been irrelevant to the upper ranks of the game, yet they're constantly linked to all sorts of big names. maybe one day they'll come big again, but for the moment, they are a club to ridicule, and exactly the sort i'd love to see go to division 1![]()
I stand corrected. ThanksMilton Keynes Bee said:I think that was Maurice Norman not Mike Norman, California Bee

When we played them in the cup a couple of years ago, the Spurs fans sang ''sh*t ground, no fans.'' The Brentford fans replied with ''Big club, my arse.''
Spurs have a history & a pedigree - but then so do Blackpool. I know a few Spurs fans & they really do think that they ''Mean'' something in the current game. Do they feck. They are bad enough to go down, their ''Star'' player wants to bugger off to play for Mali rofl rofl rofl , their squad is very poor & they have a guy in charge of them who (with all due respect to the bloke) is just not a premiership manager anymore.
I think it is funny when the ''Mighty'' fall. Supporting a little club means that I cannot help taking amusement at the misfortune of a big club.
California Bee said:You could say this about 89 of the 92 clubs in the league.
Tottenham have the following and the capacity to compete. I see nothing wrong with their ambition or with linking them with "big" names. Why you would get joy from their relegation escapes me. I could understand it if you wanted Arsenal or Man U to get relegated after all their years of dominating with money but Tottenham have been struggling to get back on par with these all-powerful monsters.
California Bee said:You seem to be saying that, on the one hand, Tottenham are not mighty...
"think that they ''Mean'' something in the current game. Do they feck".
On the other hand you want to see the "''Mighty'' fall" and you will take amusement at the misfortune of a big club".
Compared with almost all of the Premiership clubs we do have a "sh*t ground" and "no fans" and if the roles were reversed we would be saying the same thing to them.
If the "mighty" are going to fall, I want it to be Manchester United and Arsenal, not former great clubs like Spurs, Villa, Manchester City and Everton who are now struggling. Man U and Arsenal are the clubs who for years now have sucked the league dry of attention, money, talent, fans and trophies alike.
Dan the Bee said:California Bee - u've already mentioned a slight allegiance and preference for spurs, so with all due respect, it's only natural u'd want to see them stay up. I'd say there are a fair few people around who want to see them go - it would be funny. They have a lot of fans who are very up themselves and actually believe they are a big club who are relevant. What a joke. Yes, i'd prefer to see Man U go, but Spurs would be quite high up on my wish list.
For what it's worth, shaun has pretty much hit the nail on the head for why their relegation would amuse me. But i imagine they'll survive
California Bee said:Man U have used their wealth to weaken their opponents (eg Dwight Yorke, Eric Cantona, Teddy Sheringham, Rio Ferdinand and trying for Saha today) as well as to boost their own team.

I don't know about you but I go back a long way and in the late fifties/early sixties Tottenham Hotspur played football that was a joy to watch and lifted the standard of play in the league. John White, Cliff Jones, Dave Mackay and co were artists. This is the Tottenham I remember and they were also my Dad's team although he never took me there. Also, apart from the odd transaction like Greaves, they won it on the pitch, not in the chequebook and at other clubs' expense. So, yes, I would get no pleasure from Tottenham falling from grace. Arsenal. Manchester United are very successful businesses but they do it mostly with money. It's not just the money they spend on transfer-ins but also the money that makes them almost never have to put their own home-grown players on the market the way the rest of the league does.
shaun said:If money/ buying funds was all it took, then Liverpool would be at the top of the league, Arsenal (Wenger has made a fortune for the club by buying great players cheaply) would be nowhere (their record signign was Wiltord @ £11mn) & Spurs would be a lot higher than they are now (how much did Rebrov & Keane cost? Probably 2x the whole Birmingham City squad).
California Bee said:If Spurs continue to play the way they did in today's 4-1 win over Birmingham City this thread will be moot in a few weeks.
