Why do we need a new keeper? The two we have are pretty good already. Need an experienced striker to partner May/Tabb/Harrold and score five or six goals before the end of the season.

Nelson looks a good prospect, but Julian and crosses seem not to be singing from different songsheets, albeit Julian is a great shot stopper. The combination of Julian and crosses worries me slightly for the next 2 games, but who would come on loan for 2 games, with Nelson's suspension being up after that? And with the injunction against MA next Monday, I can't realistically see us getting any new player in this week.

If the injunction doesn't take effect until Monday at earliest, it wouldn't stop Allen making signings... I don't think that the injunction could be retrospective to make any of his signings ineligible for 2 months.

The possible need to pay off Barnet might however make us reluctant to invest in wages.

I'm less worried about new signings (though agree about GK) than about the prospect of being managerless at this time, presumably with the ex-Barnet coach as temp mgr, aided by Stannard

I doubt it's that much.

Peters and Allen-Page between them would probably have been on less than £500 per week.

However there may still be some wage cash available, provided Talbot and Fitzgerald didn't take up too much.

Rougier staying or going would also make the situation very different, as would possible compensation/pay-offs to Barnet, Thompson, Downes, McLoughlin.

I might get a verbal battering for this but I always thought we had a rather large squad considering the circumstances.

If we're going to make a fight of it next season - whatever division we're in - then it might be better to have a tighter, better squad - of say 25.

Ideally with minimal loan players so in, on permenant contracts, come Ronnie Bull and Scott Fitzgerald + Unnamed Martin Allen signings (say 3 - striker, midfielder and defender).

Out go the fringe players and back go the loan signings - unless we can persuade Millwall to part with Ben May.

In our surrent situation the squad size is ridiculous IMHO.

With a youth set-up I believe we need a squad of 20-22, with the reserves being mainly youth team players.

This would allow a better quality of player, and additional loans should we need them, which we probably will.

Frees are often so that the 'selling' club (though not actually selling, clearly) are relieved of a salary. Paul Hall looked OK to me on Saturday, but given his pedigree he may be on quite a whack, and thus R&D may be keen to reduce their wages bill, reckon they are safe from the drop (Hah!), thus let some of the more costly players go.
