AFC Bournemouth

I have been told by a Bournemouth season ticket holder that there is a very strong rumour going round down there that they have plans to build a new ground on the outskirts of town fed by flyovers from the main road. But the council wants to include use for the hospital. Planning permission may depend on an agreement to do so

Thats a complete non-starter. There has been so much discussion about this road for years (the main road in and out of the town), but every time the answer is there is no money to build it or that the habitat for lizards would be destroyed. There are about £25m of improvements to that road about to be made, but its an attempt to make the road look more like a road rather than the rutted and unsafe road it is now. Not sure where this stadium would be placed. Only place I can think of is next to the sewage works!

The sewage works is about right (only joking). Seriously not sure where, but I heard somewher near the airport. Maybe on a site of a small stadium that's pretty close to the airport.

The joke is when visitors come to Bournemouth and see the £70k luminous welcome sign, they are also greeted by the stench of excrement!

That would be interesting because technically the ground would not be in Bournemouth, but rather Christchurch, and it would be under the jurisdiction of a different council, the almost bankrupt Dorset Council. The stadium I think would be Matchams, which is only used for stock car racing & karting. Its just an oval stadium with a couple of shacks. It would probably cost most their Premier winnings just to put a road infrastructure in! I imagine the lizard issue would put a halt to it.

It's years since I was at Dean Court (as was) but as I walked through the park, I remember thinking there was huge potential to expand the stadium if they ever needed it (didn't seem likely then, mind).

Anyhow, from looking at Google Earth, surely they could come up with a scheme whereby they expanded into the park, and the club then paid for the provision of some new parkland (or other amenity) somewhere else in the town?

https://www.google.co.uk/maps/@50.734358,-1.8381277,544m/data=!3m1!1e3

Or could they build a new stadium on the Athletics Stadium site, provide an alternative for them elsewhere and reinstate the present football stadium to parkland?

No doubt there are numerous problems with Planning Permission and access roads etc, but I always think Councils always seem to come up with reasons why something can't be done, rather than solutions to make sure that something does get done.

Unless, of course, they don't actually much want a football club in the town?

There was a bloke from the council on the local news the other night welcoming the money it would bring into the town outside the main tourist season. From the point of view of someone who lives 10 miles away, sounds like more reasons to go nowhere near it on a Saturday night.

My eldest is moving to Bournemouth next month, shame they're not in our division.

Massive night for Bournemouth. Shows what is possible and can see us being there with them within 2 years.

Disallowed goal seemed fair to me. Premiership bias?

AFC Bournemouth

Unsurprising decisions from the officials.

AFC Bournemouth

Just arrived home and seen the replay. Did those officials miss their email about the new rules?

AFC Bournemouth

Don't get me wrong Liverpool are good but can't help feel Bournemouth up against it with those decisions

AFC Bournemouth

Really is a case where all calls go in the big club's favour.

AFC Bournemouth

Extremely impressed with AFCB, deserved at least a draw.

AFC Bournemouth

Terrible decision, the goal should never have stood.

Bournemouth might as well get used to it as they will get bugger-all decisions against the big clubs. Waiting for Rodgers to claim another brilliant tactical coup on his part.

Eddie Howe has so much integrity, just seen his interview on Sky and although he was (quite rightly ) upset with the two major decisions going against Bournemouth, he conducted himself in such a dignified way. Messers Wenger, Mourinho, Pardew, Cotterill please take note !

Could not agree more and an inspiration to any young English manager looking to progress. He has proved you do not have to be a nasty piece of work to get some where. He is intelligent , commands respect and a real thinker . He gets his teams to play great football and with lots of discipline as well. He can consider himself unlucky not to have grabbed at least a point today . dubious goal for Liverpool allowed whilst Elphick was harshly penalised for an innocuous challenge.

Watched Manure Friday and Poo tonight. Premier league is going downhill FAST!

...but Sky keep telling everyone that it's the 'Best League in the World', and the deadheads lap it up. :grey:

The lack of atmosphere, or any crowd noise, at all games bar Villa vs. Utd., was noticeable on MotD, this week. Makes me sad. :(

And it's filtering throughout football. It's no different at GP.

Football has been aimed at a different crowd today . Look at the state of it at we,mobley for England games, same thing, an absolute joke.

And that's how the fa want it. Soulless

Clear case of big club vs small club decisions.

Same happened with Palace v Arsenal yesterday. Ref failed to red card Arsenal player even though he committed a second and third blatant yellow card foul, having already been booked.

Refs just can't bring themselves to penalise the big club when playing a smaller one.

Just makes football look amateurish compared to all other major world sports, where replays are available to confirm or reverse decisions.
Big changes needed ---
1. Refs should be full time professionals.

2. 4 Asst. refs needed to run the lines on each side of the pitch.

3. In addition to goal-line technology, there should be replays required for all penalty decisions, sending offs, and goals where there is a possibility of offside. Another ref sits in the action replay box reviewing it with the ref by microphone.

As in cricket, tennis etc... These decisions are crucial to the result of a match where so much is at stake.System works well in the Ashes, tennis, rugby, why not football?
FA could fund all of the above, bearing in mind the millions pouring into the game, and it would cost little in comparison to the cost of several bad decisions to a club during a season.

Bournemouth should have had at least a draw.

appreciate your indignation, and this sounds like a disgrace for Bournemouth. however, massively disagree here :)
1 is already the case no? but maybe better training needed?
2 you mean like one in each quarter?
3 the game would be interminably boring, take ages, there are loads of calls that are not "black or white" - it would literally ruin the game, in my opinion :)

some improvement may be possible, but certainly not every decision
