Quite why people are voting for NF is beyond me. As a new manager he will be learning his trade over at least 3 or 4 years. That means that the quality of football and results will vary throughout the years before he becomes the finished article. This may be a good way to go as Alex Ferguson proves. However, both the club and many of the supporters have already shown that they will not put up with such a situation with AS.
Other choices are very optimistic and forget the fact that we have very large debts and almost no chance of moving to a new stadium in the next 10 years. We need an manager with some experience and who can produce a decent team on a tight budget. For me MA fits the bill perfectly. Although some of you moan about the style of play when he was manager, he did take over a poor team and at a time when the playing budget was slashed. He made the most of what we had. And towards the end of his stay there was some excellent football played. The second leg (or was it a replay?) At GP against Southampton saw some great passing football and we were very unlucky not to win.

As you know this stuff, who came out with a "I'm sick of it.." rant? Was that Tommy Trinder?
"She was lying on her back with her lips parted, squealing like a stuffed pig" was either Aled Jones or Matt Johnson of The The fame.
I'd keep quiet about that if I were you!!!,I only found out yesterday that a pigs' orgasm lasts about half an hour.
No he said " I have a dream ............. " I think he went on to star In Joseph in the West End ?

Paul Buckle, Gary Waddock and Chris Wilder are three managers, currently in employment that the club may have approached...
Paul Trollope the ex-Rovers manager is currently unemployed, but seems to have had his best success alongside Lennie Lawrence.
If this is the level of our ambition, then I hope that Forster gets the gig. I hope though that it's not.

actually quite surprised that Curbishley hasn't been more vociferously linked to the job...has he fallen off most people's radar screens?
I agree with Kingston Bee... Nicky is doing a great job, which is hopefully not a 'dead cat' bounce. He has no experience and as KB say, how will he react to a couple of defeats. Martin Allen has agreat personality, will bring the club to the attention of the press and the 'supporters' who only come along when things are looking good. Remember that Andy was always complaining that the club wasn't recognised, well that was down to him, nobody likes a the constant complaning. How about Martin Allen as director fo football and Nicky as manager, or would that be destined for dissaster as Martin would want to run the show?
I'd say there is little to no chance of it being either Coppell or Allen. As has been said so many times before, Coppell is retired and wouldn't come out of retirement even when Palace came calling - not even in a 'director of football' position. He's not interested anymore, move on. And I doubt very much as to whether Allen matches the criteria the board are looking for. He's the past and in my opinion, it would be a backwards step for him to even be considered for the role this time around. As far as I'm concerned, there's no chance of either becoming Brentford manager anytime soon.
The thing you have to say about Johnson is that although a lot of us were clambering for him to be offered the job as soon as Scott was sacked, it's been weeks and you have to think if we wanted him, we'd have got him by now. He's certainly very keen, as he told the Chronny. But I think bringing him in now would be a bit of an anti-climax. He seems to be something of a safety net if we miss out on more high profile names, I'd guess. That said, he certainly has a proven track record and I still wouldn't be against his appointment. I think we can do better though, to be honest. As somebody said in the other thread, people want to come to us now, rather than us pinning our hopes on them wanting us. In the past, we'd have had Johnson in the next day.
Hughton is a name I'm sure the board are considering but chances are he wouldn't want to come to us. He's hot property, a wanted man. He will get a job in the top two divisions sooner rather than later. I don't think we can compete.
Same goes for Di Matteo. I think his success at West Brom will mean he commands a higher profile job than us but there's always a chance he'll feel he has unfinished business in this league and our club has very serious ambitions of getting into the Championship. May appeal to him but most likely not. As with Hughton, worth sounding him out. Worst that can happen is he ain't interested.
Another ambitious option would be Curbishley. I have a good feeling about him actually. Mills mentioned before the Plymouth game that one of the applicants came from somebody he hadn't spoken to in five years - Curbishley left Charlton five years ago. Why make reference to something seemingly so specific (similarly how he hinted Allen was 'interested')? Although Curbishley could get a job in a higher division, he may well be interested in us as a new 'project', much like Charlton was all those years ago. Of the three 'high profile' names in Di Matteo, Hughton and Curbishley, I reckon we have a much higher chance of getting Curbishley interested, or at least willing to have a chat with Mills about the job. His working relationship with Mills could work out pretty well for us. That said, he might laugh in our face and tell us to do one.
We know Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink is interested but can't see him getting the gig. Too much of a gamble. Sousa's been mentioned in another thread and is looking to get back into management, I reckon he'd see us as a good oppurtunity. Again, wouldn't want him. Negative football and supposedly poor man management. Jim Magilton... would be thoroughly uninspiring, not much better than what we had before. What about Zola? Could be the next Poyet? Other names that could be decent are Tisdale and Hill. Oh and Buckle but again, don't know if he'd be an upgrade on Scott.
And of course Nicky Forster has to be considered now. He's really got us playing and has good football principals. Not sure he's ready just yet and would hate for it all to go tits up for him. I'd love to see him in an assistant manager/coaching role whilst continuing with his playing. Don't want to lose his management skills to another club so would love him to be groomed here at GP, a la McCoist at Rangers. Though if he keeps doing what he's doing, who am I to question whether he's ready or not...
So I'd say a poll featuring; Buckle, Curbishley, Di Matteo, Forster, Hasselbaink, Hill, Hughton, Johnson, Magilton, Sousa, Tisdale, Zola. A good combination of ambitious names (but perhaps unrealistic) and names that are/may well be interested. All that said, I think the role could well go to someone that hasn't even been mentioned on here yet. I will be 100% behind whoever the board eventually go with.

As I've maintained right from the beginning, Coppell as DoF and Hughton as head coach with Nicky (player coach) and Warburton helping out too. This would really mark out our card as a progressive football club.
............................wasn't that Martin Luther King (who said "I have a dream" - not who went on to star in Joseph)?.......................
Nope .it was Martin Luther Vandross Blissett who had a dream of singing and of playing for Watford and ended up at AC Milan after John Barnes scored for England

Good post but you used up my whole luch hour...![]()
We would need bigger dug-outs... Too many people do the same jobs!
I see Peter Taylor is leaving Bradford after Saturdays game against Stockport. Not my choice, but he does have a good record of getting clubs promoted

Sheff United!
Let's turn this around and unsettle theirmanager, see how they like it.![]()
As results have picked up, so NF seems to have picked up more votes as well, that follows naturally, but lets not get carried away, we need a proven manager to take us forward, in saying that, I believe that NF appears to have the attributes to be a Manager in time to come, and who ever we choose as our new manager I feel some coaching/tactical role could be created for NF as well, AS at least had some team coaching experience with Orient Reserves, this is NF first time into coaching, what we don't want 3 years down the line is the same senario with NF as we have had with AS, it would not be fair on him, and we would be back to square one again, we are lookin at a long term future, not the same old, same old every 3 years.
Who they are going to choose nobody knows, there are so many if's and butt's, and they must get it spot on, it's all very well us supporters trying to choose who we want, but it does not work like that, SC is now retired from football, that's a well documented fact, more's the pity, MA that would be a extreme backward step, CH is destined for a bigger Club, the sames R de M and PS, that does not leave much out there in the way of PROVEN experience except AC & GJ, and I know who I would choose out of the two.
I would rather continue the way things are at the moment with NF, and the Board taking their time appointing the RIGHT man for the long term future, as it stands we are looking safer and safer each week, so time doe's not appear to be a problem, at least we have Wembley to look forward to.
In other words "Don't panic Mr Mainwaring"
if the man is right, the time is right. be brave captain mainwaring, be brave.
but atm I am not to bothered about a new manager it is enjoyable going to Brentford again.

Tisdale and the Ex Bournemouth boss seem to have done very well as novices

Chris Hughton, Steve Coppell, Alan Curbishley, Dean Holdsworth and Keith Hill all have one thing in common. That is, that none of them are realistic propositions as Brentford's new manager. And over a hundred people have completely screwed this poll by voting for them. Well done.

So you don't think Dean Holdsworth would come to a club that can double his wages and give him about 5 times the playing budget?
Actually, with the exception of Nicky Forster, I rather suspect the whole list are non starters lol.To be fair the poll question isn't who will be the next manager Which would definitely reduce options but who should it be which is subjective?
I didn't vote for any of your non starters but suspect one may not be a complete no no
No. He's only just signed up for Aldershot. I'm sure he's fine where he is and if he did jump ship after five minutes, that would make him a scumbag of the highest order and we don't want any more of those.
