Do not trust the odds. Wise has ruled himself out yet VC offer him at 10's. The bookies have absolutely no clue on this one.

There must be more going on at the training ground than we know new players, playing out from the back, I can't see this all coming from NF.

Another Manager Poll

No, not at all, NF has 20 years in the game as a player and no experience at all as a manager, I think the players like him and the freedom they have to play football rather than hit the ball down the channel head tennis they played before. The new style of play must come from the training sessions with the bread man and coaching staff.

Another Manager Poll

Have I missed something here, but when has the role of director if football ever been a good thing??? or ever worked???

I was one of those who voted for the DOF/Forster option, not because i believe in the DOF Position, i don't. I was thinking more of a mentor. Someone who could advise, assist and, perhaps, allow Nicky sometime off to spend with his wife and new young family. We have already had one burnt out young manager in Andy Scott. Do we want to see the same thing happen to Nicky Forster.

Another Manager Poll

I like NF's outlook on how football should be played. I expect to lose some matches with this style of play but at least I don't leave Griffin Park anymore with the feeling why am I travelling from Faversham to watch this rubbish. The points are clocking up towards the total 51-54 target,
lets enjoy the journey. Whoever they appoint NO HOOFBALL PLEASE!!!!

...substitute NF for AS and your opinions would echo what a lot of Brentford fans felt after Butcher was dispatched...

Yes - a great start for Nicky and an impressive run for the club, but let's not herald another new golden era just yet.
Notts Co at home and Hartlepool away will be tricky, Brighton at home will be difficult.
Will we play "tippy tappy" against these 3 teams ? I am not sure many clubs in this league would dare...

I agree with that....................There were quite a few on here that wanted Dean Holdsworth...he too, had a winning start with Aldershot but now they have not won for 8 games and are sliding down the table, only 8 points above Burton, who are in the drop zone. but Burton have 5 games in hand.....can't really see the same scenario happening to the Bees but you never know...it's Brentford innit ?

Another Manager Poll

Our next five games are:
H Notts County
A Hartlepool
H Brighton
A Charlton
H Huddersfield

The turning point of our season?
If Nicky can get 9 or 10 points from these fixtures, he's doing well.
I'm encouraged by him so far, but I think these sides will test whether our midfield is strong enough.

Another Manager Poll

Take a look at Oldham's run since they beat us: W 1; D 5; L 3, not scored in 5 and shipped 5 at home to Peterborough yesterday. Rookie manager. The test of a good manager is how you get out of a situation like that; NF has not yet had that sort of test (not that I wish it).

Oldham's players have not been paid this month. Problems behind the scenes. I wouldn't put it all on Paul Dickov's shoulders. Both he and Keith Hill at Rochdale have been doing a good job on limited resources (more limited than ours, that's for sure).
I think Rochdale's average gate is under 4000 and they don't have a sugar daddy. And they play tippy tappy.

Nicky's has more experience in his footballing career than AS ever did and worked under far better managers than AS did as well.

AS footballing style comes from the lower leagues where he played his entire career, thats why he is limited in his tactics.

I'd say NF has plenty of input but i cant say i'm sure about it.You appear to know because you say MUST so could you enlighten me on your role at the training ground?

I don't think tactics were the limiting factor with AS; and btw, he actually did spend some time with Sheff Utd playing championship/premier league footy. I think his man management skills
[and perceived lack of] were more likely to have been the contributing factor to his downfall.

I’ve not been to the training ground myself the word MUST is just an expression, I agree NF has played at better clubs than AS and that the styles of management could well be very different in there approach to the players.

Where does this analysis leave Terry Butcher's coaching skills ?
Better than AS and NF combined :sorted:

Another Manager Poll

I was a bit cranky earlier so apologies i didn't mean to come over as glib as i did.

All i'm really trying to say is that i think NF playes a big part at the training ground and it's his style we're playing to along with a likeminded MW.

I think NF is just a very modest bloke and wouldn't blow his own trumpet, rather he'd play down his role. It's that part of him that i really like but it does mean that he gets less credit.

Another Manager Poll

I think a lot of people on here are overthinking things.
I reckon NF was happy to babysit the team and removed a lot of existing rules and scrapped the hoofball tactics to see if results improved. Immediate results and winning teams are mostly happy teams coupled with relieved and happy fans. If it ain't broke don't mend it and so far so good, the players are playing with freedom but at times IMHO lack discipline but it's so much better on the eye than previous so let it roll.
When we lose and we will it's how we cope and address but I'm confident that NF is a good communicator and won't over react

Players play to the managers instructions. The players have responded to NF's style of play. This squad would run at a brick wall for Fozzie.

I fancy a win at Charlton and if theres one game Fozzie will want to win its BHA next week.Would love to hear the team talk for that one.Do you realise the stick i'll get if we lose that one,i want bragging rights. In Forster i trust

Another Manager Poll

Ive gone for the DOF/Forster option but in a sense doesnt need to be a DOF as such. maybe someone like what John Gorman is to Karl Robinson at MK Dons.

Yeah, I got a feeling that Charlton aren't all that under Chris Powell. I thought it was a strange appointment. I think in these games it might come down to how solid our midfield is. They're more creative than under Andy Scott, but will they get overrun against better Division One sides?
I'd guess:
Notts County - Draw
Hartlepool - Sneak a win
Brighton - Defeat
Charlton - Win
Huddersfield - hard to call. Don't think we'll lose. Then again, a new manager could be in place by then.

from NF's press conference:

Interviewer: With four wins in five games, at what point do you think there will be a discussion about whether that is enough for you to stay? It’s got to come at some point?

NF: Don’t know; I think they are waiting for me to lose! There is a process going on at the moment, but I don’t know what stage it is at. The most up to date I’m being kept is with you guys. They say there will be a short-list of six and some say I might be on that, some say I won’t. So I really don’t know. They have not come to me at any stage so I just continue to do it to the best of my capability for the time I am here, however long that is.

Yet another bfc pr disaster me thinks. why the hell doesn't the club keep NF in the loop out of courtesy if not basic management skills. I suspect the ceo is enjoying this process and is making it last as lonmg as possible ----- king maker and all that crap. sadly we really are a mickey mouse club these days. doh.

So you believe NF has told you everything he knows? He is not likely to say anything else is he. There is a process that is being followed as has been explained many times on here, that the Brentford of old never used to adopt. Hopefully it will ensure we get the right person(s) at the end of it, got to be better that just appointing someone off the cuff. NF is also playing the game, dont believe all you read...

Congratulations to the club for managing the process in a thoroughly professional manner. Did you expect that AS was consulted as to the termination of the previous manager's position?

Oh for goodness sake, what part of the loop do you want him to be included in??? BFC have made it clear the process they are following and if by now have produced a short list of candidates then Forster may or may not be on it, I would be amazed if any of the candidates have been advised they are on a short list.

I have no doubts whatsoever that Nickey is aware that the board are delighted with the results and i am sure, deep down, he is pretty confident that he is on the short list. However we are at a pivtal role in our future and i would far rather the club make a decision based on a wide ranging criteria than just sign someone for the sake of it.

BFC like a lot of other clubs have had PR disasters and various cockups but on this occassion I think you are being totaly unrealistic.

i think that is a very good point. the DOF can undermine a manager/head coach/1st team player picker etc and i don't think forster needs this. to be honest, i'd be perfectly happy for forster and warburton to get contracts up to the end of NEXT season now. people may point to fitzgerald and scott but i do think forster is a much better option than either of those two were when they were appointed.

yep, forster for me.

I think you are worrying unnecessarily. This is following the pattern of any senior appointment i have ever been involved in, either as hopeful applicant or one of those making the decision. I would suggest that NF is being kept thoroughly in the loop, either formally or informally, and it is to his credit that he has already, after just a couple of weeks in charge, learned how to play the corporate game. He'll be wearing red braces and carrying a iPad next!!

Strange to give up after 50 years when the team is 6 games unbeaten (4 wins) and on their way to wembley.
Quite mental in fact.

How does someone become a good manager?? By being given a chance that how, Eddie Howe is a good manager, Nigel Adkins is a good manager, Brendan Rogers is a good manager....we did not know this until they were given a chance!!! Since Scott left we are unbeaten in 6 games, Nicky must being doing something right.

After 1967, the dark days of the 70s, W£bb, Noad£s, Leroy and Butcher, what is so dire about today that has made you decide after 50 years to drop down three divisions because you can't take anymore?

I am still undecided, and the idea of giving him the season suggests I am not the only one. An experienced head is needed when the team rebuilding begins again this summer, but whatever happens I think I will pass on following Dover even though they're only down the road from me.
