NF doesn't do the coaching anyway, MW does that, NF picks and chooses who to play, A DoF, as you say, does the 'paperwork' and keeps check on football at all levels.

Blimey, that's money for old rope. If that's all NF has got to do I'll stick my CV in too.

Another Manager Poll

Just after an opinion.............. Do we think NF hasnt been given the job due to BFC again this season making quite a large budget available to the manager but they are wanting someone with a bit of transfer market experience?? I dnt have a clue what the budget has ever been or will be but looking from the outside in it seemed to be quite a strong one as we brought in quite a few players!!! I think the way AS spent has scared the board and they through no fault of NFs are probably scared to give any real investment to a relatively inexperienced manager?? I could be way off the mark who knows but it seems quite a possibility from where im standing. For me the DOF role by steve coppell or someone similar seems a good idea as this would help us spend more wisely and keep a good young manager and club legend at BFC!!!

Another Manager Poll

OK, for me the DOF role is to enable the Manager or coach to concentrate on day to matters of the first team on the pitch. The DoF should be someone who can offer support and experience when the coach needs help in dealing with strategy for the club at all levels, to include youth, reserves, press, players agents, transfer negotiations for players identified by the coach. NF cannot be an expert at all this after 15 games or so in charge so needs support if he is in the frame

A reasonable explanation, but I think the Manager should have a firm overall grip on reserve and youth matters as well, so I'd prefer a different structure where press, players agents and transfer negotiations are handled by someone else, but not a Director of Football. I think the Manager/Director of Football combination inherently leaves scope for conflict.

Considering Copp's has " retired " he may be getting bored on the golf course and the occasional bit of telly work . Nicky's inexperience worries me if the going got tough ,an old head like Copp's to call on when needed is ideal .

Another Manager Poll

Fozzy, Coppy, Warbs (FC West London, Winners, Wonderful...)

Another Manager Poll

I think Coppell would be ideal on a part time basis to advise Fozzy and Warbs when needed and maybe to look out for potential signings. I have great respect for Copppell but let's not forget he's getting on a bit [ like me] and wouldn't be a longer term solution and indeed, may not want a longer term commitment.

yes i agree with you. a couple of days a week? (getting on? me too!)

Another Manager Poll

Good for me to !!

The dream team ...........with Coppell on board we'll be able to attract better players, maybe he still has connections with some of the current and ex-Reading boys ?

Another Manager Poll

Thank god i didn't go today.Live only 35 miles away.got a chest infection so left it up to my son who said nah.
Mr Benham must be well pleased with his millions spent

Another Manager Poll

As I have said before I would be happy (at least to start with:D ) with Nicky & Warburton in charge but with Coppel on 2/3 days a week as a mentor to Nicky not as a full blown DoF

Mates with Barnet's Performance analyst and he said its going to be Roberto di Matteo and that everythings all lined up. Dont really believe him but it was a out of the blue comment so who knowsss?

I'd be happy to get Di Matteo, he did well at MK Dons and even better at West Brom and his teams play lovely football

Sir Steve Coppell has been there, and round the block a few times, knows when the setup is right and when it isn't. That's why he walked from Brizzle City and Man City.

Why would he know ?

Another Manager Poll

Just out of interest why shouldn't someone like Parkinson who Colchester up or Di Matteo who took MK Dons to 3rd place and West Brom up to Prem be considered?

For the record I'd like Coppell back, always have hoped he'd make himself available but not a scooby as to if he has thrown his hat in the ring.

What we must have is what is best for the club. Recent decisions at this club have often been done with finance the only consideration. The cheap solution will not get us promoted. Up the Bees.

On what do you base this? Forster as temporary manager? Warburton as temporary assistant? Moving the dugouts? Extending the away dugout? I'm not sure you can draw that conclusion.

Erm......I thought that was the key criteria for all businesses not just Brentford Football Club.........how much monies do we have to spend and what's the best use for them. Surely whether we're buying a box of paper clips or appointing a new team manager finance is the major consideration.

Thorne in the Side is tweeting that Torquay have allowed us to talk to Paul Buckle.

I don't like the thought of abee having sleepless nights......Therefore I've sent a paper clip in the post & urge all fellow Bees to do likewise. We must all do our bit.

Another Manager Poll

So, if rumours are to be believed, the six candidates are:

Buckle
Forster
Warburton
Di Matteo
Hoddle
Coppell

Strong list I reckon. All have their merits.

It will help more if you forget the paper clips and all send to me a team manager.

I think Di Matteo would be a great appointment.
He's got a good record in this and the next division, plus he must still have great Chelsea links which would be very useful. I've always wondered why we don't do better out of Chelsea's youth academy with players coming here. Di Matteo could surely call upon those contacts.
He'd be expensive though...... After the West Brom job, he can command top dollar and you'd need instant results to justify it, so makes the length of contract a possible sticking point.

Hoddle will surely be earning more doing his pundit work on Sky Sports. Where did that rumour come from?

As much as i loved the year Coppell was in charge, after what happened at Bristol City, i'd be worried that he could commit to the job.

None of us know for sure exactly how much MB is willing to throw at us though? If we are interviewing Di Matteo in the first place then we will know exactly how much salary he would require along with the kind of playing budget he would be looking for at this level. If we are never going to match his kind of demands, which I assume we will know already as the football world is a small one, then surely we wouldn't be interviewing him in the first place, assuming of course that he is indeed on the shortlist.

If it transpires he's on the list at all, even if he didn't get the job, then that would be an indication of ambition and money available as we're surely not gonna waste time interviewing managers who we know to be out of our league in money terms before we've even started the process?

Before people speculate on Steve Coppell and Bristol City, I think they need to be aware of all the circumstances surrounding him leaving instead of assuming he has fallen out of love with football ??

Didn't Coppell say he no longer had the desire and intended to quit management as a result? I wasn't assuming that, i thought that was the true story?

What have i missed?

That he might change his mind when it's a cosy little club on his doorstep with a bit of money to spend.

I base this on that with the right commercial decisions eg employing a manager that has the experience to get us promoted, we would have gone up this season.Running a commercial affair means taking intelligent commercial risks which Brentford (perhaps understandably) do not and have not done. This would have surely given us a short cut to promotion.Mangers ,loanees, players very similar to the ones they have replaced have not given Brentford the force needed for promotion.

Do you honestly believe that, if BFC had spend more money on a manager than the incumbent at the beginning of this season, it would have guaranteed us promotion?

Another Manager Poll

Does anyone else think that this interview suggests he's interested in getting back into football, despite the first line?

http://www.talksport.co.uk/sports-n...inted-environment-i-found-myself-bristol-city

At one point in that interview he stated the average life span of current day managers and the fact that at Palace he had 5 years before gaining promotion, something that wouldnt happen today.Would we as supporters be that patient? I think not.He had his reasons for leaving Bristol City and I respect the man for that. Was a blinding interview as well

i imagine David James being signed over his head was a major factor in his decision to quit but I do have my doubts about Coppell's commitment if he were to get the job

He would be 100% commited if allowed to get on with the job he was employed to do.Interfere and yes he would walk.I am not sure if he trusts most of the chairman out there so thats why he would be reluctant to take a job on.Shame really, because he created a fine side here that played possibly the best football i had seen at GP.

Yes, and not only that the last four Brentford managers, have not had the knowledge, coaching and man management skills or the experience to take a team into the Championship. The last one was Martin Allen and prior to that Steve Coppell.

reckon i could do that job...

"sh*t performance today lads."
"crap performance today lads."
"rubbish performance today lads."

also, does he/she analyse the performance of penalty taking? izale's the other day was quality... in a comical way.

Eh? Neither Martin Allen nor Steve Coppell took us into the Chamionship... Anyway, my point was that no amount of money spent on a manager will guarantee promotion.

Another Manager Poll

We need someone with experience not Forster who is a rookie. Chris Hughton would be lovely but he won't consider League One. Coppell, if he can be persuaded back into management for a team he's fond of.

No it doesn't guarentee anything. But if you pay peanuts you get.........................
Oh( if you read my post carefully) by the way Martin Allen and Steve Coppell were much closer than anyone since and if they had stayed we would have surely seen the Bees promoted.

Another Manager Poll

My thoughts exactly - would be devestated if someone like he leads out my team next season...

tis rather underwhelming considering previous names mentioned. would rather forster/warbs.

does anyone know any of the applicants who haven't got an interview? was rather hoping buckle might fall into that category.

There are no guarantees in football end of, but one would hope that you would have a wider and better choice of candidate with more money on offer. As you say just appointing a manager (any manager) is not going to be good enough in itself, the squad needs major surgery, and to sustain a position in the championship over the next 5 years of so (if we got there) would require us securing a new home imo. Money is not everything but if you have a good management team in place making the investment hopefully the rewards will follow.

Another Manager Poll

With or without the recent "big" names being mentioned I would be well miffed if Buckle became the boss. Would be classic same old Brentford.
