Buckle was being talked about, Di Matteo wasn't and worried that we may have to settle for someone we don't really want. Let Raras pay off Warnock silly comp and then offer him the chance to become a legend at a better West London club.

Maybe we wait to see who is available and interested after the last game of the season next week.

He's just led a club to the Championship title. Sorry, but he belongs at a bigger club than us. Not going to happen.:nono:

Another Manager Poll

This is becoming extremely scary now. With the team effectively playing Fozzy and Warbs out of contention (be honest, have you seen anything that makes you think they're the answer) it looks increasingly like we are going to be left scraping the barrel.

If that is where we're at, then bring home the Buckle now. :sorted:

If it is to be Forster, he should be told prior to the Huddersfield game, as if we go into next Saturdays game in Yorkshire, with the same appetite from players and management as on display for todays game then it could be a very messy end to the season!

Another heavy thumping and Nicky's goose looks cooked in this race!

Another Manager Poll

A month ago Forster looked to be a shoe-in for the job. All that was needed was a trophy and the job would have been confirmed as his the following week in my honest opinion. However a Brentford final performance followed by defeats to Swindon, Walsall and Southampton with only draws against Colchester and Notts County and his chances are fading. That's the fickle world of football. If he is to get the job I would back him to the hilt like I would for whoever we appoint.

His league record, with by and large an inherited side, is P18 W8 D4 L6 but compare his pre-Wembley record (i.e since beating Exeter) with his post-Wembley record:
Pre-Wembley: P11 W6 D2 L3, two of those defeats were to sides in the promotion places (Huddersfield were when we played them) and I thought we played well in both of those games.
Post-Wembley: P6 W1 D2 L3, one defeat to a side in the promotion places and two to sides scrapping down the bottom.

His signings in the main did well, until Wembley, but they appear to have tailed off since, as have most of the whole squad. I do wonder whether we could have signed them if we weren't going to Wembley. Carson was honest enough to admit it was the lure for him. I'd do the same but I'd only want Schlupp back next season.

My major annoyances from this season have been:

Our home form has been unacceptable from what I had become accustomed too from the previous two seasons when we only lost SIX out of 51 (two to Championship clubs) whereas we have lost NINE from 28 this season. Part of the cause has been the fact that expectation levels went through the roof this season
We've missed too many clear cut chances. Forster is/was a striker and I would have thought he'd have shown them how to take a good penalty. These misses have cost us over the season.
Neither manager this season seems to have been able to motivate the side to play the "lesser" teams (Dagenham, Swindon, Walsall, Hartlepool etc.) yet when we played a side either with reputation or doing well we played well and won (Sheff Wed, Southampton A, Charlton, Plymouth, Everton, Hull).
It also seems from the above figures that the prospect of playing Wembley played a role in the players improved performance. This has been the most frustrating thing as they are good players but it seems only when they want to be. Weston, for example, was absolute class against Everton, but has gone missing in several other games.

The new manager needs to address this in the summer. The magic 25 a season goalscorer would be incredible but I know they cost good money so a couple of strikers who can get 15+ would be good. I hope Forster, if he gets the job, can do this. We lost our last home game in 07/08 3-0. I hope we go on to have the same success as we had that following season.

#brentfordfc I take back Tisdale; too settled. I guess it'll be 1 from Nicky, Mark Warburton, Paul Trollope, Paul Buckle. Coppell DoF b nice

Can't see any of them somehow, Bill (not a DoF either).

Another Manager Poll

I now worry as to who will manage Brentford FC. It should've been sorted by now, after the Wembley debacle, if you're going to nab someone from another club, go ahead and do it, don't piss around. If it's someone out of work, then get them in, too much pissing around for me now. I fear we're going to get someone and be totally underwhelmed......... Should've pushed the boat out for Di Matteo, Hill or even Karl Robinson if he was on the "list of 6". Anyone one else, bar DiMatteo or Hill, and it'll be small time Bees.....

Another Manager Poll

Thanks but no thanks Nicky. Will be a good manager, maybe even at Brentford, in the future.
Di Matteo or Steve Coppell I would be very pleased with.
Undecided on Hoddle.
MB should aim higher than Buckle, or even Deano or Keith Hill.
Exciting times ahead hopefully.
We can win this.

Nicky can only play with the players he inherited from AS and until he can get a transfer kitty and a budget then we do not know what he can do.He had his interview last wednesday week and has yet to hear from the board so you can make your minds up from that.

The three best players on the pitch yesterday were Osborne, Wood and Weston. The three worst were Schlupp, Reed and Neilson.

Men against boys? Thats a fair asumption you will agree.Season for us was over weeks ago and with a sh*t load of injuries there wasnt a lot else he could do with the line up.If he gets the gig then he can get on with selecting his backroom staff and forging his own squad and then he could be judged properly.

Much as I like nicky, not sure he is the man for the job. I really think we should try and steal Deano from Aldershot.

I would be interested to know who NF wants as his No2 then? If he wants to appoint his own staff. Because from what I, and a few others, have seen, it's MW that takes the players at training and seems to be the voice to be listened too. Even on the sidelines during games. I believe you are correct that NF and MW have had their interviews, but who hasn't? Are there 2,3 or 4 more to go? Has there been others that have been asked to come but not turned up or declined the opportunity? It's a hard decision, especially for MB and his own money which is at risk in BFC, he probably wants a manager of some substance, but those he wants to offer the job to (his main choices to take the club forward) are probably already employed and have turned us down. I wished it was already done and dusted.

It won't be Hoddle - Swindon supporting mate has seen him at each of their last 6 games. He'll be going back to the County Ground this summer.

Totally agree. I doubt anyone else would have got a result yesterday given the personnel available. A big name doesn't guarantee anything. Coppell was great but remember he finished third with probably the strongest squad in recent years and lost the playoff.

That's why I was keen on a managerial change in November (when we had already lost four times at home). We could have easily gotten Deano.
But if it's not going to be a 'big' name now, then it's Keith Hill for me.

Completely agree with that.

Another Manager Poll

I worry that NF may be to nice to get the gig, certainly some of his team selections have been "interesting" with players playing out of position. However I do not beleive that any team should decide to finish their season so early. We did not perform at Wembley and by and large it would seem that the final was perceived by the players as the last game of the season, certainly results post that game would indicate this.

We know that we do not have leaders on the pitch however for NF he needed to get his team playing with some passion and desire, I am not talking about playing like headless chickens, but I do expect to see my team hurting when things are not going well, fast out of the blocks with a will to win. That has not been evidenced and leads me to beleive that NF does not have the capacity to be "nasty"

I know that the players he has to work with are those chosen by Scott and quite frankly to make anything out of such a collection must be difficult, I have been pleased to see a change in style but at the same time alarmed to see that when it is not working the only changes seem to be like for like players rather than something a bit more challenging.

Conscerned at who will get the gig next season as NF or Buckle do not send out the message that we are looking to improve, I beleive the board need to make a statement to the football world that we are not little old Brentford but instead a club that has ambitions and is setting its store out accordingley. At the same time there is also the problem that we have a large squad of players who dont need to be here as they have shown they are not good enough to take us forward.

Tough decisions ahead

Well i hope they are right. Nothing wrong with Buckle per se, and i accept that he has done as ok job at Torquay - you cannot sniff at promotion. But Andy Scott got us promotion too. I just want us to go for something more than "OK".

As has been said by Les above, all rumours, but! Buckle has taken a non league side into league 2, then into the play offs, if he gets them up at Old Trafford, will he still be a no no? As he would've done what we all want, promotion, win a play off, win at wembley (??) the only thing against him would be is he capable of bringing in bigger players from the championship? Or will he stick to league 1/2 players that he may know? It's a difficult decision and one that I would've hoped to have been sorted by now.

Don't hold your breath ! Just cast your mind back to how long it took our board to sack scott, whilst at the same time giving long term deals to players who should have been leaving next week. If they gave the job to Buckle ahead of Nicky I will find other things to do on Saturday afternoons.

The club, via Andrew Mills' comments, have been 'bigging' up the new manager, new ground situation etc. Sadly too many of us have seen this in the past - remember the established 'Premier' player! - & it's time to deliver at last.

If we get a 'Sixfields' & a Buckle/Trollope-type appointment, the disappointment may well be the final straw for many.

I would have welcomed a Buckle or Tisdale-type appointment a few years back & would still support the manager if this happens, BUT I have to say that I would be more than underwhelmed by it or a meccano mini-stadium.

Considering how traumatic leaving GP will be for most of us any new stadium has to be worthy of the mighty Bees. I am sure it will be .

Hope so, Nick. After 55+ years of going to GP I will miss it, but when I started going we could get 35k plus in the ground - now it's a max of 11k. I still have hope for the club to become a real force but those hopes have become less 'hopeful' as the years have gone by!

Torquay under Paul Buckle had to endure a period of poor results while he built the squad he wanted, a period where it looked like things weren't working, but like Keith Hill, he has a clear vision of the tippy-tappy football he wants played.
I'm just not sure how good a manager Di Matteo really is. He inherited a decent set-up at both clubs he's managed.
Di Mateo will get us column inches in the newspapers because of who he is, but Buckle might actually be a better manager at this level.

They might not have been big names but were at least mouth watering appointments. After yesterday i now wonder whether its not so much the manager we get but the squad we get. Get a decent squad and a manager like Forster could probably get them up or at least give it a go. Get a better manager with a similar squad to what we have now and it would just end in dissapointment perhaps.
