Another Manager Poll
Excellent post abee. Thank you.
Dare I say that this now means you no longer think of the Board as you posted on the Southampton Match Report Thread??
Excellent post abee. Thank you.
. This season we have won nine out of twenty three home league matches scoring twenty four goals. .
I have said it before, but we wont get who we need or who we want, but who we can afford. A sensible enough approach, given our reasonably limited resources. But we aint going nowhere as long as the ambition is, get someone who can keep us up and maybe if we're lucky, have a tilt at the play offs. Unless something changes drastically, we wont be competing with the likes of MK Dons, Huddersfield, Peterborough. Our peers will be Hartlepool, Colchester, Tranmere, Yeovil etc. We have crowds of around 5500, and a benefactor who very sensibly said he would not throw money at the club, but rather help it keep on an even keel, and survive. So eminently sensible, and with people like AB at the helm, we surely shall survive. And we will get a manager who reflects that policy. Just dont expect me to get excited about it.

I agree with him. The whole experience of going to Brentford these days is dull. Griffin Park is like a morgue, there is no buzz whatsoever and hasn't been in a long time. It's rarely an enjoyable way to spend a Saturday afternoon any more.

I certainly posted on here somewhere months ago that if we didn't get it right this season then we'd look at where we went wrong and try to put it right. It's fair to say that Andy Scott was given a free hand with his selection of players as we operated on a 'minimum interference' basis. That's fine if a club has the right manager playing the football that we all wish to see and getting the results that anyone with the Club's interests at heart hope for but if not sooner or later any football club board has to step in. We have spent a long time considering various options for the new team manager......what we were looking for......the style of football to be played......experience......contacts in the game and the hundred other bullet points. Some posters on here if they were board members would have been pushing their colleagues to appoint one of several managers who were immediately available (because they were out of work) and within a few days of Andy Scott going and the board was criticised by some for 'losing' them. My vote was always to do this in a measured way, accept the criticisms but work on the maxim that 'You only get one chance to get it right first time'. The job description for BFC manager in January 2008 (just after I joined the board) was different to that of now. Then the brief was to stabilise the Club, avoid relegation to the Conference at all costs and get back into League One the following season but within two seasons maximum. AS achieved that and earned the right to manage us in League One. We consolidated in League One in some comfort in the end in our first season back. This season has been disappointing in that we didn't move on to the next step and to an extent the view on AS was coloured by the successes he had in the Carling and JPT competitions. Some supporters believe we acted too late, some professional commentators insist that we acted too prematurely.........it's always a personal viewpoint. This season we have won nine out of twenty three home league matches scoring twenty four goals. That is an unacceptable return for the resources available. We scored more that two goals only three times during the season........all away from home. We did not score more than two goals in a home league match all season. That is unacceptable for the resources made available. Nobody can promise success......we can only promise to try and all supporters want the same thing. If they were prepared to go into print you'd find directors of all twenty four League One clubs telling supporters the same thing and twenty one of them will not be promoted next season. That's the nature of football. We have a unique opportunity with MB's resources and when we get out of this bloody league and into the Championship then I'd like to be able to post 'It's Brentford innit' and be proud to say it.
With regard to season tickets we've made the Early Bird more attractive. With full price season tickets we are freezing the prices and swallowing the VAT increases. With pay on the day we are freezing prices and swallowing the VAT increases. The board would certainly hope that all season ticket holders renew but we are aware that they won't, some for economic reasons, some because they can't get to enough games to justify the cost of a season ticket, some because they are disillusioned with the Club and some like yourself who have heard it all before and would like to see some meat on the bones before committing. A supporter buying an Early Bird is a gesture of faith if you like or else they need their fix and would be watching Brentford whatever league we were in. Full price season tickets include of course the 'waiting time' cost so that hesitant supporters can see the players coming in before deciding whether or not to commit. That flexibility comes with a premium over the Early Bird. The other option is to pay on the day which provides the greatest flexibility but comes with the greatest cost. That seems fair to me.
Does anyone realise how well off MB is?
If you knew, then you'd be very excited.
How many clubs in the FL would you get this response from a director on a fans forum!
Top man abee
Thanks
Dream team of Coppell advising NF and Warburton works for me
I still have concerns, one post is hardly likely to change that. Has anyone provided any rationale behind Red Ball, Family Day or availability of season ticket information at the last home game for instance? There is feeling, you can see it on here, that the smaller, or perhaps more high profile, areas are not being managed in the way either fans would like or expect. Now there may well be well founded reasons for this, but wouldn't it be better to bring the supporters alongside such thinking? As long as this didn't involved commercially sensitive information of course.
I agree and I believe that we should bring supporters into the reasoning process. For example we have been managing without a Commercial Manager for quite a few months now since Gary Hooper left. Katie McLaren 'Trandy's bird' had to return to Australia in November to obtain a new work permit. This took longer than anticipated and she didn't return until April 13. She was far too valuable an employee to lose and we managed without her for more than four months. It's not easy being two full time employees down for that period of time but there is no purpose in our singing the blues and the staff just had to cope with the additional pressures including the Wembley Final and this they did remarkably. Think about it........we had no Commercial Manager and half our ticket office staff in Australia when we were selling twenty thousand Wembley tickets of which half were dealt with at Griffin Park. Because of the pressures on the Commercial Dept Peter Gilham was effectively left to organise and manage The Big Red Ball on his own and it was touch and go whether we'd be able to do it this year. Similarly The Family Fun Day........we haven't a sponsor. Without a sponsor it's a cost and in spite of posts on here to the effect that nobody cares about monies anymore since Matthew Benham became involved it's simply not true. I've explained that it's not true many time but still it's wheeled out in GPG posts by the same gang. The current thinking is that it's better to have a 'Meet the new manager and the 2011-12 squad' day later in the summer.I have no problem with trying to explain situations but what sticks in my craw are when instead of asking why The Big Red Ball announcement was delayed and why no Family Fun Day is yet organised it's immediately assumed that it's because of incompetence and I and others read the 'BFC treats its fans like sh*te' posts which are unfair to the staff, untrue and unpleasant to read. Post and criticise by all means but ask for the facts first rather than gleefully criticise the way that Brentford Football Club is presently run and try to turn the base support against the Club with these sort of comments. That plain and simple is my beef with some posters but of course if I respond in kind then I'm subjected to the 'BFC director fighting with fans' crap.
If anyone wants to say that we should have explained this in the first place and head the doom merchants off at the pass then I would agree entirely. I started this post by saying that we could do more to bring supporters into the reasoning process so I'll finish by repeating it and that should be our emphasis in the future.

Once again, thank you abee. Your note certainly provides the background to certain situations, and it was a brilliant effort re the ticket sales.
Can't somebody marry her and then she won't need permits to stay or work here! Can we have a photo of her on here please?Cheers abee and for gawds sake please don't stop communicating with us. BTW posted last week but that young Aussie lady is an excellent brand ambassador for the club, pleasant, intelligent, helpful, professional and attractive
I agree, they both should have waited until it was nigh on impossible to change their seasons.
I don't think you can accuse NB of basing his opinions of AS on hindsight.but you work on 20/20 hindsight as ever.
It won't be Forster anyway but I don't know where this idea that Forster as manager and Coppell as Director of Football comes from. It doesn't work, it wouldn't work. As has been said so often over the past couple of days, we need strong leadership. I would be unhappy in a situation where we don't really know who's in charge. To employ a DoF would show a total lack of confidence in any manager and would be restricting. And if they are there as simply a 'mentor', an old head who can be called on when the going gets tough, why do they need to be employed by the club? Surely Forster is friendly enough with Coppell to call on him for advice if need be. It's a total non-job and would be a waste of money. I don't believe Coppell would accept or enjoy that position either.
I feel confident enough in the board to not take us down that route (and I have heard Mills interview on Beesplayer, yes).
A smug answer does not deflect from the truth of the matter. Norwich realised they had made a massive mistake in Bryan Gunn. The performances were fine at Southampton, it was personalities that clashed that led to Pardew going. Your clamour for AS to be sacked in August or September after the board had sanctioned multiple signings only weeks earlier would have been utter stupidity but you work on 20/20 hindsight as ever.
I don't think you can accuse NB of basing his opinions of AS on hindsight.
Agreed, NB cannot be accused of jumping on any bandwagon or being wise and vocal after his dismissal, he was shortly behind Davee who wanted him dead, NB expressed grave concerns about his style of football and attitude even when we were winning and performing well in the Carling Cup.
Couldn't agree more we should be very grateful for the time abee is prepared to spend posting such detailed replies and explanations, its certainly a great improvement from the bad old days when the board couldn't give a stuff. How many clubs in the FL would you get this response from a director on a fans forum!

How do you know that Coppell and Forster wouldnt work? Why would a DOF show a lack of confidence in the manager? Forster knows as well as anyone that he is out of his depth and has many lessons to learn, but at the same time he has shown that he has what is needed to be a decent manager in the future. In a similar way that the big man up front compliments the little man we could have the wise old owl complimenting the enthusiatic but "naive" apprentice in Forster. Coppell might not want the stress of being "the manager" but watching him the other day on the panel for the current football enquiry you can see he still loves the game and has a lot to offer it. On the other hand Forster still has many lessons to learn and with Coppell as an advisor he might not have to learn these lesson the hard way. As you say he can always just ask Coppell as a friend if he wants but then Coppell wont have seen how they have performed in training, know they players mindset and character's or even seen all the games so his advice would be patchy at best. Who is to say Coppell even wants the job but for you to know that it wouldnt work is wrong and as both Coppell and Nicky have a special place for Brentford in their hearts it would be nice to have them both feeding of each other helping to get us in the promised land that is the Championship.
I didn't see this until a bit was quoted above. Hindsight indeed!
We're never going to agree on this one but c'est la vie.
I would hope the new choice makes it all a distant nightmare. I would have sacked him at Carlilse after 45 minutes.![]()
Where did I finish up behind Davee then?
I admit I never wanted AS dead and I'm pretty sure nor did Davee.
All I ever wanted was AS to go.
I think that Norwich and Southampton have shown that getting rid of your manager early in the season doesn't work, I agree with the professional soccer brains.![]()

He should have been sacked after losing to Fulham.
You may jest but that was a worrying sign of things to come!
Then now is not the right time for him to become Brentford manager, with or without a DoF.
Well this really is all the dogs fighting over the bones thread rofl
I will admit when AS went I wanted Gary Johnson in quick couldn't believe he was not appointed, after a week I then changed my mind to Nicky but realised at a later date he needed an older wiser head and suggested Steve Coppell as a Mentor say 3 days a week.
Now a few weeks down the line I honestly have no idea, but for the first time in over 60 years as a supporter I trust this board to do the very best they can to benefit the club, they may get it wrong but picking a manager that works for a club is not easy.
None of us really know what is going on behind the scenes (rightly).
Nicky and Warbs are here to season end we do know.
We don't know if the club are in contract negotiations with someone or trying to sort the scenario above out, or negotiating a "buy out" of another.
One thing I am sure about is that once the appointment is announced
The dogs will be fighting over the bones again in another thread titled **** *****
