Surely they must be making some sort of profit otherwise pointless doing it and at £48 a pop for a replica shirt someone's making a profit somewhere

My User Name says "Ealing", but I've since moved to Chiswick (hence the "Proud to be a YIMBY" on my member panel) and so walk, or get a bus to the Watermans, to enter by Kew Bridge station.

I thought the South Stand had the biggest capacity of the four, no?

Meanwhile, my ST is in the West Stand (slightly towards the North) and it seems to me that the majority of West Standers enter and exit from the South. It is handiest for the Train and Tube Stations, after all.

I was merely suggesting that they may have got a bigger site, slightly further away from LR, but went for a fantastic location over a bigger unit.

Pretty sure BFC have publicly stated, that their merchandise operates at a loss. Not sure if being in the Premier league changes that.

From the original calculations from the plans...Depending on where you divide the stands....
South is around 5150, West and East about about 3000 (+850 into each of NE/NW corners), North (the straight bit) about 4300.

The above don't include wheelchair spots and any increases post development.

Course the South stand ticket holders are probably less likely to want to visit the club shop than West and North I would have thought.

Its all about balance, unless you are passing there in the week, I wouldn't think many people would want to detour there on matchdays whereas where the new one is going to be your guaranteed to have a big footfall on matchdays.

But I do think having some presence in Hounslow high street would be quite good?

Although I suppose we aren’t having trouble selling tickets these days so it’s not really necessary.

I have replied to a post that somebody said it might not be big enough and I suggested location was more important than size.

It would have been vacant most of the time. There’s a limit to how much Bees stuff the average local will buy. Though I guess you’re probably joking.

I remember a few years back Leeds opened a ‘superstore’ in one of the main shopping streets in the city centre. It didn’t last long in somewhere which is much more of a shopping destination than Hounslow for a bigger club with less local competition. They now have a huge shop next to the ground which has a big load of Ainsley Harriot spicy rice being flogged at 50p a pack. Outside matchdays even Man U’s shop is largely empty.

We aren’t retail experts and that would have take away a lot of time and energy from other issues off the pitch that need resolving.

I always thought "parking" was essential for a successful retail unit and a football club shop needs to be close to a stadium to benefit from the match day crowd. Those two requirements are ticked off. The other issue we had was the online side of retail and we've found a space to effectively have our own "distribution centre" on site.

Credit should be given where it is due and this new retail outlet is as perfect as it gets to meet our needs, both on matchday, non matchday and to cater for our growing online interest, fair play to Mr Varney and the retail team.

I’d be interested to learn what percentage of Brentford fans would travel to Hounslow for the sole reason of buying Bees merch. The only sensible location for any club shop (for any club) is at or near the home ground, IMHO.

Chelsea opened up a club shop in Kingston. I think it lasted a year or so.

Brentford fans do live in Hounslow though. I think some sort of retail presence north, east, south and west of the BCS would make money and act as a permanent advert for the club. Again, that would be a long term plan.

Yep you definitely want something near the ground as a minimum requirement.

As for places like Hounslow, in all seriousness having a dedicated retail unit would probably be a bit overkill. Some clever advertising might be good though? Getting home shirts stocked in the local Sports shops as well? I remember we did that once back in the L1 days.

I honestly can’t imagine stand alone Bees shops away from the ground would be profit-making, though I’d love to be proved wrong.

I can remember Brentford shirts being sold in a sports chain store in Ealing Broadway @BFC1997 years ago. It was quite a chore going in every time I passed and having to put Bees shirts in front of every other club’s throughout the shop. I didn’t even get paid for my ’rack dressing’ ?

Spot on. Madness to open a clubshop or superstore on a high street away from the stadium within this COVID economic environment. Have people seen the state of Britain's high streets these days - hardly thriving.

Would probably only expect multinationals or companies with large cash flow reserves to venture opening up retail stores on high streets in order to try and purchase lease rate bargains.

Plus, its a myth about shirt sales & merch being a money spinner for the football club where its actually the kit manufacturer who benefits the most. Most recent case & example this summer with the Ronaldo 'blockbuster' signing.

Bought my first replica Bees shirt (OSCA) in Arnold's sports shop in Brentford High St. in about 1981............

I don’t think enough bees fans (even potentials) are that bothered about going to Hounslow to make it viable. I haven’t been since 1998, 23 years ago. It’s a pain to park, it’s the same or worse shops than everyone else.

Perhaps all supporters could be sent through the shop on the way out like at the theme parks. We seem to have loads of stewards outside doing thiings
like pressing the crossing button so I am sure they could assist.
Really I hope shop does well and adds to our funds for our next stadium move to be built on the site of Hounslow bus garage
